ecclesiastical_a canon_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o great_a weight_n with_o mr._n hickeringill_n as_o well_o as_o by_o the_o ancient_a law_n and_o custom_n of_o the_o land_n in_o the_o apostle_n canon_n it_o be_v ordain_v that_o every_o national_a church_n shall_v have_v its_o own_o chief_a or_o head_n and_o thence_o derive_v all_o power_n under_o the_o crown_n it_o be_v complain_n chap._n vii_o of_o canon_n and_o convocation_n we_o see_v what_o reason_n mr._n hickeringill_n have_v to_o keep_v such_o a_o pother_n about_o the_o force_n of_o ecclesiastical_a canon_n and_o the_o authority_n of_o convocation_n especial_o 1._o see_v the_o late_o mention_v act_n of_o 1_o eliz._n suppose_v the_o ecclesiastical_a law_n i._n e._n the_o canon_n to_o be_v she_o own_o law_n and_o require_v ecclesiastical_a judge_n so_o severe_o to_o put_v they_o in_o execution_n 2._o see_v since_o the_o reformation_n most_o of_o the_o matter_n of_o canon_n be_v express_v and_o enjoin_v in_o act_n of_o parliament_n insomuch_o that_o ecclesiastical_a jurisdiction_n may_v stand_v and_o proceed_v well_o enough_o have_v we_o no_o other_o canon_n but_o act_n of_o parliament_n as_o mr._n hickeringill_n insinuate_v and_o it_o be_v worthy_a his_o observation_n that_o the_o great_a complaint_n of_o dissenter_n since_o the_o king_n happy_a return_n have_v be_v upon_o the_o execution_n of_o act_n of_o parliament_n and_o that_o not_o so_o much_o by_o ecclesiastical_a as_o civil_a minister_n indeed_o the_o statute_n of_o car._n 2._o that_o restore_v the_o ecclesiastical_a jurisdiction_n have_v a_o proviso_n that_o by_o virtue_n of_o that_o act_n the_o canon_n of_o 1640._o shall_v not_o be_v of_o force_n and_o that_o no_o canon_n be_v make_v of_o force_n by_o that_o that_o by_o the_o 25_o hen._n 8._o c._n 19_o the_o old_a canon_n not_o against_o law_n or_o prerogative_n be_v of_o force_n and_o that_o the_o king_n with_o the_o convocation_n may_v make_v new_a one_o with_o the_o same_o condition_n and_o indeed_o while_o the_o convocation_n be_v so_o limit_v by_o that_o act_n their_o power_n seem_v not_o very_o formidable_a my_o lord_n coke_n who_o be_v not_o a_o bigot_n for_o spiritual_a power_n declare_v the_o law_n in_o both_o those_o case_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o it_o be_v resolve_v by_o the_o judge_n at_o a_o committee_n of_o lord_n these_o add_v that_o these_o restraint_n put_v upon_o the_o convocation_n by_o the_o 25_o hen._n 8._o be_v but_o a_o affirmance_n of_o what_o be_v before_o the_o statute_n and_o as_o he_o say_v in_o his_o book_n of_o court_n be_v but_o declaratory_a of_o the_o old_a common_a law_n 323._o pag._n 323._o consequent_o the_o court_n of_o common_a law_n be_v to_o bound_v and_o over-rule_v all_o ecclesiastical_a execution_n of_o canon_n and_o secure_v the_o crown_n and_o the_o law_n against_o they_o but_o what_o act_v of_o parliament_n have_v abrogate_a the_o authority_n of_o the_o synod_n 1603._o and_o quite_o annihilate_v the_o very_a being_n of_o convocation_n i_o be_o yet_o to_o learn_v though_o mr._n hickeringill_n so_o bold_o after_o his_o own_o way_n vent_v so_o wild_a a_o that_o statute_n of_o limitation_n as_o he_o be_v please_v to_o insult_v he_o say_v they_o be_v far_o from_o be_v the_o representative_a church_n of_o england_n for_o that_o the_o people_n have_v not_o the_o least_o vote_n in_o their_o election_n pray_v when_o be_v it_o otherwise_o than_o it_o be_v now_o if_o the_o law_n by_o institution_n make_v the_o clerk_n a_o guide_n to_o his_o flock_n in_o spiritual_n if_o the_o people_n do_v express_o make_v choice_n of_o he_o for_o such_o or_o virtual_o consent_v in_o law_n he_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o thereupon_o the_o law_n allow_v this_o clerk_n to_o elect_v member_n for_o the_o convocation_n and_o also_o reckon_v the_o convocation_n to_o be_v the_o representative_a church_n of_o england_n how_o come_v it_o that_o mr._n hickeringill_n who_o be_v so_o great_a a_o stickler_n for_o a_o legal_a religion_n shall_v be_v so_o much_o wise_a than_o the_o law_n and_o to_o scoff_n at_o its_o constitution_n i_o wish_v mr._n hickeringill_n to_o beware_v of_o touch_v foundation_n with_o his_o rude_a and_o bold_a fancy_n and_o disturb_v the_o frame_n of_o government_n i_o be_o sure_a he_o will_v not_o abide_v by_o his_o own_o rule_n if_o he_o be_v well_o advise_v of_o the_o manner_n of_o elect_v the_o great_a representative_a of_o the_o people_n of_o england_n it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o study_v to_o be_v quiet_a but_o some_o study_n to_o be_v otherwise_o the_o wise_a word_n in_o his_o naked_a truth_n be_v this_o if_o man_n once_o come_v to_o dispute_v authority_n and_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o law_n and_o lawmaker_n the_o next_o step_n be_v confusion_n and_o rebellion_n p._n 11._o the_o conclusion_n thus_o you_o have_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o sense_n that_o run_v through_o the_o book_n call_v naked_a truth_n his_o other_o little_a gross_a mistake_n be_v not_o worthy_a observe_v much_o less_o insist_v on_o such_o as_o these_o 1._o first_o that_o all_o archdeaconry_n have_v corpse_n annex_v which_o be_v that_o they_o be_v due_a by_o ancient_a composition_n that_o provision_n notwithstanding_o his_o old_a canon_n in_o visitation_n be_v due_a for_o which_o the_o money_n pay_v for_o procuration_n be_v pay_v for_o they_o by_o virtue_n of_o that_o composition_n and_o whereas_o they_o be_v due_a by_o undoubted_a and_o long_a possession_n and_o custom_n which_o be_v as_o law_n in_o england_n and_o to_o conclude_v be_v not_o only_o express_o allow_v as_o due_a but_o declare_v to_o be_v recoverable_a in_o the_o ecclesiastical_a court_n by_o the_o statute_n of_o 34_o hen._n 8._o 19_o i_o have_v at_o
