may_v end_v their_o woeful_a misery_n but_o alas_o alas_o death_n be_v even_o as_o a_o wide_a gate_n to_o let_v they_o have_v some_o passage_n to_o endless_a woe_n and_o misery_n for_o when_o they_o book_n for_o the_o comfort_n and_o instruction_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n for_o evermore_o here_o than_o we_o may_v note_v the_o great_a care_n and_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n towards_o his_o poor_a church_n and_o people_n that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v they_o ignorant_a of_o his_o second_o come_v to_o judgement_n but_o he_o do_v make_v it_o know_v to_o his_o disciple_n john_n and_o bid_v sentence_n both_o on_o the_o sheep_n and_o on_o the_o goat_n use_v 1_o here_o then_o we_o see_v a_o manifest_a difference_n between_o christ_n come_v in_o the_o flesh_n to_o be_v a_o mediator_n and_o redeemer_n and_o his_o second_o come_v to_o judgement_n and_o sure_o it_o make_v much_o for_o the_o comfort_n of_o god_n poor_a child_n that_o though_o here_o they_o be_v in_o want_n in_o misery_n and_o poverty_n yet_o they_o shall_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o this_o glory_n of_o their_o head_n christ_n jesus_n second_o it_o serve_v to_o astonish_v all_o hard-hearted_a sinner_n which_o contemn_v christ_n and_o his_o poor_a member_n christ_n will_v at_o last_o manifest_v his_o power_n in_o their_o just_a condemnation_n see_v the_o person_n of_o the_o use_v 2_o judge_n be_v of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n the_o king_n of_o king_n and_o lord_n of_o lord_n when_o we_o come_v to_o pray_v or_o to_o sing_v psalm_n unto_o god_n how_o unreverent_o do_v some_o sit_v with_o their_o hat_n on_o will_v any_o man_n do_v it_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o a_o earthly_a judge_n or_o a_o mortal_a presence_n sure_o it_o be_v a_o unreverent_a behaviour_n to_o sit_v cover_v either_o when_o we_o speak_v unto_o god_n by_o prayer_n or_o when_o god_n speak_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n again_o when_o man_n come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o this_o great_a judge_n the_o glorious_a gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n when_o they_o read_v it_o private_o in_o their_o house_n it_o be_v wonderful_a to_o see_v what_o little_a reverence_n they_o show_v in_o the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o this_o great_a judge_n will_v any_o earthly_a prince_n take_v it_o in_o good_a part_n if_o thou_o shall_v stand_v in_o his_o presence_n and_o he_o talk_v with_o thou_o for_o thy_o good_a and_o thou_o shall_v even_o at_o that_o time_n turn_v thy_o back_n upon_o he_o and_o fall_v to_o wipe_v of_o thy_o shoe_n or_o some_o base_a business_n though_o man_n dare_v not_o do_v this_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o they_o make_v but_o small_a account_n of_o his_o word_n and_o glorious_a gospel_n oh_o therefore_o let_v we_o consider_v when_o we_o come_v either_o to_o speak_v to_o god_n by_o our_o prayer_n or_o to_o hear_v christ_n speak_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n that_o we_o come_v to_o appear_v in_o a_o glorious_a presence_n that_o so_o we_o may_v come_v in_o fear_n and_o throne_n it_o betoken_v purity_n beauty_n sincerity_n and_o integrity_n and_o therefore_o it_o show_v that_o christ_n jesus_n the_o judge_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n will_v judge_v all_o cause_n and_o all_o person_n upright_o sincere_o and_o pure_o no_o cruelty_n no_o injustice_n nor_o wrong_n will_v he_o do_v to_o any_o creature_n but_o will_v proceed_v most_o sincere_o in_o all_o after_o this_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n sure_o it_o be_v none_o other_o in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n but_o this_o our_o gracious_a king_n who_o be_v the_o only_a immortal_a and_o wise_a god_n have_v the_o key_n of_o heaven_n and_o of_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n he_o alone_o can_v kill_v and_o make_v alive_a he_o alone_o can_v lift_v up_o to_o heaven_n and_o send_v to_o hell_n he_o alone_o and_o be_v due_a unto_o i_o now_o christ_n jesus_n be_v a_o spiritual_a king_n and_o therefore_o he_o will_v be_v serve_v in_o spirit_n and_o truth_n o_o then_o let_v we_o all_o with_o a_o godly_a purpose_n of_o heart_n yield_v and_o resign_v ourselves_o body_n and_o soul_n to_o honour_v this_o king_n and_o to_o perform_v unto_o he_o true_a and_o spiritual_a obedience_n for_o evermore_o alas_o it_o be_v not_o external_a and_o outward_a service_n which_o he_o expect_v he_o be_v not_o like_o a_o earthly_a king_n but_o he_o regard_v the_o heart_n and_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n in_o his_o service_n and_o if_o we_o shall_v thus_o perform_v this_o spiritual_a service_n and_o obedience_n then_o we_o shall_v show_v ourselves_o to_o be_v his_o loyal_a and_o dutiful_a subject_n and_o then_o will_v he_o acknowledge_v we_o for_o his_o servant_n but_o if_o we_o deny_v to_o he_o this_o service_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o give_v it_o to_o any_o other_o he_o will_v then_o cast_v we_o off_o for_o evermore_o describe_v severity_n of_o the_o judge_n describe_v thus_o much_o of_o the_o majesty_n of_o the_o judge_n and_o of_o his_o sincerity_n and_o uprightness_n in_o judgement_n now_o in_o the_o description_n of_o the_o judge_n it_o be_v further_o add_v that_o from_o the_o face_n of_o this_o judge_n both_o the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n flee_v away_o and_o this_o do_v show_v the_o wonderful_a severity_n of_o this_o great_a judge_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n we_o know_v that_o man_n fly_v those_o thing_n that_o they_o fear_v and_o dread_n so_o here_o the_o heaven_n and_o earth_n do_v fear_v the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o great_a judge_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o seek_v to_o hide_v themselves_o that_o they_o may_v not_o appear_v before_o he_o this_o fly_v of_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o heaven_n and_o hide_v themselves_o that_o they_o dare_v not_o appear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n this_o show_v the_o wonderful_a majesty_n and_o the_o great_a severity_n and_o terror_n of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o judge_n from_o whence_o we_o observe_v a_o threefold_a instruction_n the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n use_v 1_o be_v void_a of_o sense_n they_o be_v great_a and_o mighty_a creature_n again_o they_o be_v very_o goodly_a and_o beautiful_a creature_n beside_o all_o this_o they_o never_o commit_v any_o sin_n how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v then_o that_o they_o shall_v fly_v &_o hide_v themselves_o from_o the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n ans_fw-fr they_o never_o sin_v indeed_o but_o yet_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n be_v of_o that_o force_n that_o it_o have_v infect_v both_o the_o earth_n we_o tread_v on_o and_o the_o heaven_n over_o our_o head_n many_o thousand_o mile_n above_o us._n oh_o then_o see_v how_o monstrous_a a_o thing_n sin_n be_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o almighty_a god_n what_o a_o vile_a thing_n that_o the_o contagion_n and_o infection_n thereof_o shall_v hurt_v &_o infect_v the_o whole_a heaven_n and_o make_v they_o that_o they_o dare_v not_o abide_v the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o god_n their_o creator_n o_o shall_v we_o not_o abhor_v sin_n as_o the_o vile_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n we_o be_v afraid_a of_o the_o plague_n because_o it_o infect_v and_o kill_v man_n body_n but_o the_o plague_n of_o sin_n be_v a_o thousand_o time_n and_o more_o to_o be_v abhor_v and_o flee_v from_o see_v it_o poison_n and_o infect_v both_o body_n and_o soul_n &_o be_v so_o contagious_a that_o the_o creature_n be_v afraid_a to_o behold_v the_o face_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n see_v both_o heaven_n and_o use_v 2_o earth_n shall_v fly_v and_o perish_v from_o before_o the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o christ_n jesus_n nay_o they_o shall_v burn_v with_o fire_n as_o peter_n say_v 2._o pet._n 3.10.11_o all_o these_o goodly_a house_n all_o thy_o gold_n and_o silver_n and_o costly_a apparel_n shall_v be_v burn_v with_o fire_n this_o may_v teach_v we_o moderation_n and_o sobriety_n in_o the_o use_n of_o god_n creature_n what_o folly_n be_v it_o to_o spend_v all_o that_o a_o man_n have_v to_o build_v a_o stately_a house_n and_o yet_o in_o the_o end_n it_o must_v be_v consume_v with_o fire_n and_o become_v nothing_o else_o but_o fuel_o for_o the_o fire_n that_o see_v the_o heaven_n and_o use_v 3_o the_o earth_n these_o great_a and_o mighty_a creature_n these_o beautiful_a and_o excellent_a work_n of_o almighty_a god_n power_n which_o have_v no_o sense_n nor_o feeling_n nor_o never_o sin_v if_o these_o shall_v fly_v before_o the_o son_n of_o god_n as_o be_v not_o able_a to_o endure_v his_o presence_n alas_o what_o shall_v wicked_a and_o hard-hearted_a sinner_n do_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o the_o vile_a wretch_n of_o the_o world_n which_o live_v and_o delight_n in_o sin_n where_o shall_v the_o ungodlie_a and_o sinner_n appear_v what_o will_v become_v of_o all_o ignorant_a soul_n what_o will_v become_v of_o the_o blasphemer_n and_o adulterer_n if_o the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n these_o great_a and_o glorious_a creature_n which_o sin_v not_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v in_o his_o presence_n then_o what_o i_o say_v will_v become_v of_o all_o profane_a and_o ungodly_a sinner_n alas_o they_o shall_v be_v even_o at_o their_o wit_n end_n not_o know_v in_o the_o world_n which_o way_n to_o turn_v they_o nor_o where_o to_o fly_v for_o succour_n where_o shall_v they_o seek_v for_o refuge_n when_o as_o the_o judge_n himself_o be_v their_o enemy_n who_o dare_v plead_v for_o they_o darenot_v any_o saint_n or_o angel_n no_o no_o no_o saint_n or_o angel_n dare_v open_v their_o mouth_n to_o speak_v one_o word_n in_o their_o behalf_n neither_o can_v any_o creature_n deliver_v they_o from_o the_o dreadful_a vengeance_n of_o this_o terrible_a judge_n verse_n 12._o and_o i_o see_v the_o dead_a both_o great_a and_o small_a thus_o have_v you_o see_v the_o person_n of_o the_o judge_n describe_v by_o his_o wonderful_a majesty_n and_o power_n describe_v the_o person_n that_o shall_v appear_v before_o this_o judge_n describe_v wherewith_o he_o will_v come_v to_o judgement_n and_o also_o by_o the_o great_a severity_n and_o terror_n that_o shall_v astonish_v both_o the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n and_o make_v they_o to_o fly_v from_o before_o his_o presence_n now_o in_o this_o verse_n and_o that_o which_o follow_v be_v declare_v who_o be_v they_o that_o shall_v appear_v before_o this_o great_a judge_n namely_o i_o see_v the_o dead_a both_o great_a and_o small_a etc._n etc._n second_o the_o evidence_n that_o shall_v be_v bring_v in_o and_o what_o witness_n shall_v be_v produce_v either_o to_o excuse_v or_o accuse_v in_o these_o word_n and_o the_o book_n be_v open_v object_n and_o i_o see_v the_o dead_a both_o great_a and_o small_a etc._n etc._n before_o we_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o word_n here_o may_v a_o question_n arise_v namely_o how_o this_o can_v be_v true_a that_o saint_n john_n say_v he_o see_v the_o dead_a both_o great_a and_o small_a for_o we_o believe_v that_o christ_n jesus_n shall_v judge_v both_o quick_a and_o dead_a not_o only_o the_o dead_a but_o the_o live_n and_o paul_n
for_o than_o thy_o conscience_n will_v accuse_v and_o lay_v to_o thy_o charge_n every_o one_o of_o they_o in_o order_n thou_o have_v set_v my_o misdeed_n before_o i_o and_o my_o secret_a sin_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o thy_o countenance_n say_v david_n again_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n what_o anger_n what_o envy_n what_o malice_n lurk_v therein_o and_o they_o pass_v it_o over_o and_o think_v it_o no_o matter_n well_o know_v belove_v that_o unless_o you_o repent_v of_o the_o very_a thought_n of_o the_o heart_n even_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v find_v write_v in_o the_o book_n at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o what_o a_o lamentable_a thing_n will_v that_o be_v thought_n 2._o our_o thought_n second_o as_o conscience_n be_v privy_a to_o all_o our_o thought_n and_o will_v accuse_v we_o of_o they_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n so_o all_o our_o speech_n be_v note_v therein_o what_o a_o number_n of_o wicked_a speech_n pass_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o wicked_a and_o vain_a man_n and_o woman_n what_o horrible_a and_o blasphemous_a oath_n what_o curse_v speak_v lie_a and_o slander_v now_o a_o wicked_a person_n that_o thus_o abuse_v his_o tongue_n so_o many_o thousand_o time_n in_o a_o day_n he_o can_v for_o his_o life_n remember_v they_o well_o know_v that_o every_o sinful_a word_n thou_o speak_v be_v write_v in_o this_o book_n there_o it_o be_v record_v and_o when_o this_o book_n of_o thy_o conscience_n shall_v be_v open_v it_o will_v discover_v all_o thy_o sin_n not_o only_o thy_o filthy_a thought_n but_o every_o wicked_a word_n our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o 12.36_o mat._n 12.36_o that_o we_o must_v give_v a_o account_n of_o every_o wicked_a word_n at_o the_o day_n of_o â—udgement_n for_o though_o man_n labour_v to_o forget_v they_o yet_o they_o be_v write_v in_o their_o conscience_n &_o one_o day_n shall_v come_v to_o judgement_n o_o how_o this_o shall_v awaken_v we_o all_o and_o cause_v we_o to_o look_v unto_o our_o life_n to_o make_v a_o covenant_n with_o our_o eye_n as_o job_n do_v and_o to_o set_v a_o watch_n before_o our_o mouth_n as_o david_n do_v and_o to_o lay_v aside_o our_o vain_a oath_n and_o idle_a mirth_n which_o as_o solomon_n say_v can_v want_v iniquity_n see_v one_o day_n they_o must_v all_o of_o they_o come_v to_o judgement_n work_n 3_o our_o work_n three_o if_o we_o come_v unto_o the_o life_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n why_o alas_o they_o be_v nothing_o almost_o but_o a_o continual_a practice_n of_o sin_n as_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n life_n they_o be_v innumerable_a even_o as_o the_o sand_n on_o the_o sea_n shore_n now_o though_o man_n life_n abound_v with_o so_o many_o thousand_o sin_n yet_o we_o see_v man_n perceive_v not_o nor_o know_v not_o one_o quarter_n of_o his_o sin_n it_o may_v be_v he_o know_v some_o but_o alas_o they_o forget_v the_o great_a part_n of_o they_o but_o yet_o they_o be_v all_o write_v in_o this_o book_n of_o thy_o conscience_n and_o they_o shall_v all_o come_v to_o judgement_n when_o these_o book_n shall_v be_v read_v than_o all_o thy_o sin_n shall_v be_v make_v manifest_a though_o never_o so_o secret_a for_o thy_o conscience_n do_v mark_v they_o all_o and_o pen_v they_o down_o against_o this_o day_n of_o account_n now_o see_v what_o be_v mean_v by_o this_o book_n our_o conscience_n and_o likewise_o what_o be_v write_v in_o they_o even_o all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o work_n let_v we_o come_v to_o see_v what_o use_n we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o this_o doctrine_n first_o hence_o first_o of_o all_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o endless_a love_n and_o mercy_n of_o our_o god_n towards_o we_o foretell_v every_o use_n 1_o one_o of_o we_o now_o of_o the_o open_n of_o these_o book_n that_o our_o conscience_n shall_v be_v lay_v open_a these_o book_n unclasp_v and_o all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o work_n must_v come_v to_o judgement_n sure_o it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n and_o purpose_n that_o we_o may_v prevent_v the_o danger_n that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o labour_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n wash_v and_o purge_v in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o it_o may_v not_o lay_v to_o our_o charge_n any_o one_o sin_n but_o assure_v we_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n use_v 2_o second_o we_o see_v here_o that_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n to_o abstain_v from_o evil_a word_n and_o work_n but_o evil_a thought_n likewise_o the_o very_a lust_n of_o the_o heart_n paul_n complain_v of_o this_o 7._o rom._n 7._o and_o peter_n bid_v simon_n magus_n to_o repent_v and_o pray_v 8._o act_n 8._o if_o perhaps_o the_o thought_n of_o his_o heart_n may_v be_v pardon_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v careful_a over_o their_o very_a thought_n for_o a_o wicked_a carnal_a man_n may_v abstain_v from_o some_o grievous_a sin_n but_o it_o be_v a_o note_n of_o the_o true_a child_n of_o god_n to_o repent_v of_o his_o evil_a thought_n and_o to_o be_v careful_a over_o they_o three_o see_v every_o man_n use_v 3_o conscience_n be_v this_o book_n and_o every_o man_n sin_n be_v pen_v down_o therein_o we_o may_v see_v the_o woeful_a misery_n of_o all_o those_o that_o have_v defile_v conscience_n filthy_a and_o unclean_a heart_n for_o look_v how_o their_o conscience_n do_v accuse_v they_o even_o so_o will_v god_n condemn_v and_o have_v not_o repent_v of_o their_o sin_n they_o carry_v a_o tormentor_n within_o they_o namely_o a_o guilty_a and_o a_o accuse_a conscience_n which_o be_v their_o judge_n to_o condemn_v they_o and_o their_o hell_n to_o torment_v they_o use_v 4_o four_o see_v the_o book_n must_v be_v open_v and_o every_o man_n conscience_n must_v come_v to_o scan_v because_o sentence_n shall_v pass_v and_o judgement_n shall_v be_v award_v accord_v to_o the_o thing_n write_v in_o every_o man_n conscience_n how_o shall_v this_o cause_v we_o all_o both_o minister_n and_o people_n to_o labour_v to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v good_a thou_o shall_v not_o fail_v to_o be_v bless_v if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v filthy_a and_o pollute_a thou_o be_v accurse_v conscience_n the_o mean_a to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v our_o chief_a care_n our_o chief_a study_n and_o our_o chief_a desire_n all_o our_o life_n time_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n now_o if_o you_o ask_v how_o be_v it_o possible_a to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n i_o answer_v for_o the_o get_n and_o keep_v of_o faith_n and_o a_o good_a conscience_n we_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v do_v by_o the_o use_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n 17._o joh._n 17._o sanctify_v they_o by_o thy_o truth_n thy_o word_n be_v the_o truth_n all_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n be_v wrought_v by_o his_o word_n but_o that_o we_o may_v get_v a_o good_a conscience_n we_o must_v first_o repent_v of_o all_o our_o sin_n we_o must_v know_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n what_o be_v sin_n &_o what_o be_v not_o second_o we_o must_v know_v the_o heavy_a curse_n of_o god_n even_o for_o sin_n that_o the_o reward_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n eternal_a both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n for_o man_n do_v by_o nature_n bless_v themselves_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o though_o we_o hear_v of_o god_n judgement_n against_o sin_n yet_o who_o heart_n be_v touch_v and_o trouble_v thus_o man_n run_v on_o still_o in_o sin_n and_o fear_v nothing_o they_o mean_v well_o they_o say_v but_o yet_o live_v ill_a and_o think_v all_o be_v well_o three_o till_o we_o see_v what_o sin_n be_v and_o then_o see_v the_o curse_n of_o god_n due_a to_o sin_n we_o shall_v never_o serious_o try_v our_o conscience_n and_o see_v how_o our_o sin_n have_v wound_v they_o that_o so_o we_o may_v repent_v we_o of_o sin_n four_o we_o must_v be_v grieve_v for_o our_o sin_n we_o must_v acknowledge_v and_o confess_v they_o beg_v for_o pardon_n of_o they_o and_o to_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o christ_n jesus_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o can_v purify_v the_o conscience_n and_o quiet_a the_o heart_n but_o only_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n apply_v to_o our_o soul_n by_o faith_n with_o persuasion_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o they_o mark_v here_o then_o belove_v when_o a_o man_n be_v thus_o humble_v for_o his_o sin_n and_o beg_v the_o pardon_n of_o they_o earnest_o with_o sigh_n and_o groan_n then_o will_v the_o lord_n send_v down_o into_o his_o soul_n his_o bless_a spirit_n to_o assure_v we_o of_o god_n mercy_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n that_o our_o wound_n in_o conscience_n be_v heal_v and_o this_o be_v do_v by_o the_o mean_n of_o faith_n 15.9_o act_n 15.9_o which_o purify_v the_o conscience_n hereby_o we_o
may_v perceive_v use_v that_o most_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v in_o a_o woeful_a case_n for_o alas_o the_o great_a part_n be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o know_v not_o what_o be_v sin_n and_o what_o be_v not_o sin_n and_o therefore_o can_v possible_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n for_o 11._o hebr._n 11._o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n again_o though_o man_n see_v their_o sin_n and_o oftentimes_o their_o conscience_n check_v they_o for_o sin_n yet_o how_o few_o do_v bewail_v their_o sin_n for_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o there_o be_v not_o so_o wicked_a a_o sinner_n but_o sometime_o his_o conscience_n check_n he_o indeed_o man_n see_v not_o the_o danger_n and_o feel_v not_o the_o wound_n of_o conscience_n because_o now_o their_o book_n be_v clasp_v they_o be_v shut_v up_o their_o sear_a conscience_n be_v now_o asleep_a but_o the_o day_n will_v come_v that_o their_o book_n must_v be_v open_v and_o their_o secret_n declare_v and_o then_o conscience_n will_v accuse_v they_o condemn_v and_o torment_v they_o again_o when_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v get_v a_o good_a conscience_n so_o as_o be_v true_o humble_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o beg_a pardon_n they_o find_v some_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n and_o that_o now_o their_o conscience_n do_v not_o accuse_v they_o even_o than_o must_v man_n take_v no_o less_o pain_n to_o keep_v and_o preserve_v a_o good_a conscience_n to_o do_v nothing_o to_o wound_v thy_o conscience_n a_o man_n conscience_n be_v a_o very_a tender_a thing_n pure_a the_o mean_n to_o keep_v our_o conscience_n pure_a it_o be_v like_o the_o apple_n of_o the_o eye_n if_o it_o be_v prick_v but_o with_o a_o pin_n it_o will_v not_o only_o blemish_v the_o eye_n but_o endanger_v the_o sight_n so_o conscience_n it_o be_v a_o tender_a thing_n if_o you_o prick_v it_o by_o sin_n it_o will_v blemish_v thy_o conscience_n wound_v it_o and_o even_o make_v havoc_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o therefore_o say_v solomon_n counterguard_n thy_o heart_n &_o watch_v over_o thy_o soul_n proverb_n 4.14_o that_o thou_o do_v nothing_o that_o may_v wound_v thy_o conscience_n now_o that_o we_o may_v keep_v these_o book_n of_o account_n our_o conscience_n pure_a and_o good_a we_o must_v do_v two_o thing_n first_o avoid_z all_o thing_n that_o may_v any_o way_n hurt_v a_o good_a conscience_n second_o use_v all_o good_a mean_n and_o help_v to_o cherish_v a_o good_a conscience_n in_o truth_n all_o sin_n hinder_v a_o good_a conscience_n sin_n be_v that_o which_o wound_v the_o soul_n and_o make_v havoc_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o be_v the_o very_a cutthroat_n of_o man_n soul_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n take_v heed_n of_o sin_n which_o wound_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o make_v it_o unable_a to_o stand_v before_o god_n at_o the_o last_o day_n but_o there_o be_v two_o especial_a let_n and_o impediment_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n first_o ignorance_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o when_o a_o man_n know_v not_o what_o be_v sin_n and_o what_o not_o how_o can_v he_o take_v heed_n lest_o he_o wound_v his_o soul_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v let_v a_o man_n come_v into_o his_o house_n at_o midnight_n he_o can_v see_v nothing_o amiss_o and_o out_o of_o order_n but_o let_v a_o man_n come_v in_o at_o noon_n than_o he_o can_v espy_v the_o least_o disorder_n even_o so_o poor_a blind_a ignorant_a soul_n not_o know_v the_o law_n of_o god_n can_v see_v any_o wound_n in_o conscience_n nor_o nothing_o amiss_o in_o they_o but_o let_v they_o come_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o look_v in_o this_o glass_n than_o they_o shall_v find_v themselves_o much_o out_o of_o order_n to_o have_v wound_v soul_n and_o defile_v conscience_n the_o other_o impediment_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n be_v worldly_a lust_n namely_o the_o love_n and_o exceed_a desire_n of_o riches_n honour_n pleasure_n etc._n etc._n and_o he_o that_o suffer_v these_o desire_n to_o have_v place_n in_o his_o heart_n he_o can_v possible_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n second_o the_o mean_n to_o preserve_v and_o to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n be_v three_o first_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o may_v save_v and_o cherish_v true_a save_v faith_n whereby_o our_o soul_n be_v assure_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesu_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n for_o faith_n be_v the_o root_n and_o the_o foundation_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o without_o faith_n there_o can_v be_v no_o good_a conscience_n for_o they_o and_o walk_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v find_v more_o and_o more_o the_o comfort_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n we_o do_v nothing_o to_o break_v off_o the_o feel_n of_o god_n love_n or_o to_o wound_v our_o conscience_n second_o we_o must_v endeavour_v in_o all_o thing_n to_o obey_v there_o be_v a_o purpose_n to_o live_v in_o sin_n there_o be_v neither_o faith_n nor_o a_o good_a conscience_n three_o we_o must_v walk_v with_o god_n as_o henoch_n do_v so_o to_o order_v our_o life_n as_o always_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o this_o will_v make_v we_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o the_o want_n of_o this_o make_v man_n bold_a to_o sin_n because_o they_o consider_v not_o that_o god_n see_v they_o and_o that_o they_o have_v a_o conscience_n within_o they_o and_o another_o book_n be_v open_v which_o be_v the_o book_n of_o life_n thus_o when_o christ_n have_v examine_v the_o book_n of_o man_n conscience_n to_o view_v what_o be_v therein_o write_v that_o judgement_n may_v be_v award_v thereafter_o now_o he_o show_v that_o he_o will_v open_v a_o second_o book_n even_o the_o book_n of_o life_n life_n what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o book_n of_o life_n and_o of_o this_o book_n of_o life_n we_o shall_v see_v often_o mention_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n well_o thus_o have_v observe_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n what_o be_v mean_v by_o this_o book_n of_o life_n namely_o the_o eternal_a decree_n of_o god_n election_n here-hence_o come_v two_o weighty_a point_n to_o be_v consider_v of_o we_o first_o whether_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o the_o child_n of_o god_n to_o know_v whether_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n or_o no._n second_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a then_o by_o what_o mean_v we_o may_v attain_v to_o this_o knowledge_n to_o be_v assure_v that_o our_o name_n be_v in_o heaven_n that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o number_n of_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o these_o be_v two_o most_o necessary_a &_o fruitful_a point_n to_o be_v know_v of_o all_o christian_n life_n whether_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o the_o child_n of_o god_n to_o know_v whether_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o this_o book_n of_o life_n concern_v the_o first_o point_n whether_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o the_o child_n of_o god_n to_o know_v whether_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n or_o not_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n hold_v that_o no_o man_n can_v certain_o know_v whether_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n or_o no._n nay_o they_o condemn_v this_o as_o a_o foul_a fault_n and_o bold_a presumption_n for_o any_o man_n to_o be_v certain_o persuade_v of_o this_o that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n elect_v in_o christ_n jesu_n and_o that_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n they_o say_v we_o be_v to_o hope_v well_o etc._n etc._n but_o alas_o shall_v we_o venture_v the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n upon_o a_o uncertain_a hope_n no_o we_o must_v go_v further_o and_o labour_n to_o be_v assure_v and_o certain_o persuade_v of_o this_o that_o our_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n and_o that_o a_o true_a christian_a man_n or_o woman_n may_v assure_o be_v persuade_v &_o certain_o know_v that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o be_v out_o of_o question_n if_o we_o will_v believe_v the_o holy-ghost_n else_o why_o shall_v s._n peter_n will_v we_o to_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o make_v our_o election_n sure_a 10._o 2_o pet._n 1.10_o job_n 19_o rom._n 8.16_o luke_n 10._o and_o why_o do_v our_o saviour_n bid_v his_o disciple_n rejoice_v that_o their_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n if_o they_o can_v not_o know_v it_o again_o every_o article_n of_o our_o christian_a faith_n do_v confirm_v the_o truth_n of_o this_o doctrine_n where_o we_o be_v teach_v to_o believe_v the_o catholic_a church_n and_o that_o we_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o god_n people_n we_o believe_v the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v have_v life_n everlasting_a now_o than_o you_o see_v how_o little_o we_o be_v behold_v to_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n who_o hold_v that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v certain_o persuade_v of_o our_o salvation_n but_o must_v only_o bless_a persuasion_n that_o our_o name_n be_v in_o this_o book_n and_o that_o we_o be_v the_o elect_a and_o choose_v of_o god_n second_o now_o the_o next_o question_n be_v how_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n may_v come_v to_o this_o certain_a knowledge_n whether_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o this_o book_n whether_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n or_o not_o and_o this_o you_o see_v be_v a_o matter_n of_o no_o small_a moment_n but_o a_o most_o weighty_a matter_n and_o concern_v our_o soul_n very_o narrow_o and_o therefore_o let_v we_o be_v careful_a to_o listen_v unto_o it_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n or_o not_o whether_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n or_o nor_o and_o so_o whether_o we_o shall_v be_v save_v or_o not_o o_o it_o be_v matter_n of_o endless_a comfort_n to_o god_n child_n when_o they_o know_v this_o that_o they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o that_o eternal_a life_n belong_v unto_o they_o it_o will_v stir_v they_o up_o to_o obey_v god_n with_o joy_n and_o cheerfulness_n in_o all_o his_o commandment_n knowledge_n by_o what_o mean_v we_o may_v come_v unto_o this_o knowledge_n now_o there_o be_v two_o way_n to_o know_v it_o one_o be_v by_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n into_o the_o privy_a council_n of_o god_n but_o this_o be_v a_o dangerous_a way_n and_o not_o to_o be_v attempt_v of_o any_o
