joint_o believe_v his_o duty_n seem_v too_o high_a and_o his_o labour_n great_a yet_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o real_a dignity_n he_o be_v advance_v unto_o and_o privilege_n he_o have_v receive_v will_v raise_v up_o the_o spirit_n to_o great_a and_o high_a attempt_n and_o to_o sustain_v great_a labour_n mortification_n be_v the_o work_n and_o labour_n life_n eternal_a life_n be_v the_o reward_n follow_v the_o spirit_n be_v the_o christian_n duty_n but_o to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o be_v his_o dignity_n mortification_n sound_v very_o harsh_a at_o first_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n say_v it_o be_v a_o hard_a say_n who_o can_v bear_v it_o and_o indeed_o i_o can_v deny_v but_o it_o be_v so_o to_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o therefore_o so_o hold_v out_o in_o scripture_n the_o word_n choose_v to_o press_v it_o express_v much_o pain_n and_o pain_n much_o torment_n and_o labour_n it_o be_v not_o so_o easy_a and_o trivial_a a_o business_n to_o forsake_v sin_n or_o subdue_v it_o as_o many_o think_v
god_n unbelief_n and_o disobedience_n now_o what_o become_v of_o all_o this_o work_n you_o may_v know_v the_o generality_n of_o all_o rank_n have_v rebel_v against_o that_o lord_n and_o prince_n and_o withdraw_v from_o his_o allegiance_n and_o revolt_v unto_o the_o same_o lust_n and_o way_n these_o same_o course_n against_o which_o we_o have_v both_o by_o our_o profession_n of_o christianity_n and_o solemn_a oath_n engage_v ourselves_o and_o so_o man_n have_v voluntary_o and_o hearty_o subject_v themselves_o unto_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o desire_n of_o the_o flesh_n hence_o be_v the_o begin_n of_o our_o ruin_n because_o we_o will_v not_o serve_v our_o own_o god_n and_o lord_n in_o our_o own_o land_n therefore_o be_v so_o many_o lead_v away_o captive_a to_o serve_v stranger_n in_o another_o land_n therefore_o we_o be_v like_a to_o be_v captive_n in_o our_o own_o land_n because_o we_o refuse_v homage_n to_o our_o god_n and_o obey_v strange_a lord_n within_o therefore_o be_v we_o they_o have_v not_o the_o command_n of_o themselves_o look_v upon_o a_o man_n give_v to_o drunkenness_n and_o what_o a_o slave_n be_v he_o whither_o do_v not_o his_o lust_n drive_v he_o let_v he_o bind_v himself_o with_o resolution_n with_o vow_n yet_o he_o can_v be_v hold_v by_o they_o shame_n before_o man_n loss_n of_o estate_n decay_n of_o health_n temporal_a punishment_n nay_o eternal_a all_o set_v together_o can_v keep_v he_o from_o fulfil_v the_o desire_n of_o that_o lust_n when_o he_o have_v opportunity_n a_o man_n give_v to_o covetousness_n how_o do_v he_o serve_v that_o idol_n how_o do_v he_o forget_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o man_n or_o to_o have_v a_o reasonable_a â—oul_n within_o he_o he_o be_v so_o devote_a to_o it_o and_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n there_o may_v be_v many_o petty_a little_a god_n that_o he_o worship_v upon_o occasion_n but_o every_o unrenewed_a man_n have_v some_o one_o thing_n predominant_a in_o he_o unto_o which_o he_o have_v swear_v obedience_n and_o devotion_n the_o man_n most_o civilise_a most_o abstract_a from_o the_o grosser_n outward_a pollution_n yet_o certain_o his_o heart_n within_o be_v but_o a_o temple_n full_a of_o idol_n to_o the_o love_n and_o service_n of_o which_o he_o be_v devote_v there_o be_v some_o of_o the_o fundamental_a law_n of_o satin_n kingdom_n that_o rule_v in_o every_o natural_a man_n either_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o eye_n or_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n or_o the_o pride_n of_o life_n every_o man_n sacrifice_v to_o one_o of_o these_o his_o credit_n and_o honour_n or_o his_o pleasure_n or_o his_o profit_n self_n whatever_o way_n refine_v and_o subtillize_v in_o some_o yet_o at_o best_a it_o be_v but_o a_o enemy_n to_o god_n and_o without_o that_o sphere_n of_o self_n can_v a_o man_n act_n upon_o natural_a principle_n till_o a_o high_a spirit_n come_v in_o which_o be_v here_o speak_v of_o oh_o that_o you_o will_v take_v this_o for_o bondage_n to_o be_v under_o this_o woeful_a necessity_n of_o satisfy_v and_o fulfil_v the_o desire_n of_o your_o flesh_n and_o mind_n eph._n 2.2_o many_o account_n it_o only_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n in_o the_o world_n from_o whence_o do_v contention_n arise_v come_v they_o not_o hence_o say_v james_n 4.1_o even_o of_o the_o lust_n that_o war_n in_o our_o member_n it_o be_v these_o that_o business_n beyond_o necessity_n these_o multiply_v care_n without_o profit_n and_o so_o bring_v forth_o vexation_n and_o torment_n if_o a_o man_n have_v his_o lust_n subdue_v and_o his_o affection_n compose_v unto_o moderation_n and_o sobriety_n o_o what_o a_o multitude_n of_o noisome_a and_o hurtful_a care_n shall_v he_o then_o be_v free_v from_o what_o a_o sweet_a calmness_n shall_v possess_v that_o spirit_n will_v you_o be_v persuade_v of_o it_o belove_v in_o the_o lord_n that_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o serve_v the_o lord_n then_o to_o serve_v your_o lust_n that_o they_o cost_v you_o more_o labour_n disquiet_v perplexity_n and_o sorrow_n than_o the_o lord_n service_n will_v that_o so_o you_o may_v weary_v of_o such_o master_n and_o groan_v to_o be_v from_o under_o such_o a_o law_n of_o sin_n but_o if_o that_o will_v not_o suffice_v to_o persuade_v you_o then_o consider_v in_o the_o next_o room_n if_o you_o will_v needs_o serve_v a_o law_n of_o sin_n you_o must_v needs_o be_v subject_a to_o a_o law_n of_o death_n if_o you_o will_v not_o be_v persuade_v to_o quit_v the_o service_n of_o sin_n then_o tell_v i_o what_o think_v you_o of_o your_o wage_n the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n that_o you_o may_v certain_o expect_v and_o can_v you_o look_v and_o long_a for_o such_o wage_n god_n have_v join_v these_o together_o by_o a_o perpetual_a ordinance_n they_o come_v in_o the_o world_n together_o sin_n enter_v and_o death_n by_o sin_n and_o they_o have_v go_v hand_n in_o hand_n together_o since_o and_o think_v you_o to_o dissolve_v what_o god_n have_v join_v before_o you_o go_v further_o and_o obey_v sin_n more_o think_v i_o pray_v you_o what_o it_o can_v give_v you_o what_o do_v it_o give_v you_o for_o the_o present_a but_o much_o pain_n and_o toil_n and_o vexation_n in_o stead_n of_o promise_a pleasure_n and_o satisfaction_n sin_n do_v with_o all_o man_n as_o the_o devil_n do_v with_o some_o of_o his_o swear_a vassal_n and_o servant_n they_o have_v a_o poor_a wretched_a life_n with_o he_o they_o be_v weary_v and_o trouble_v to_o satisfy_v all_o his_o unreasonable_a and_o imperious_a command_n he_o loaden_v they_o with_o base_a service_n and_o they_o be_v still_o keep_v in_o expectation_n of_o some_o great_a reward_n but_o for_o the_o present_a they_o have_v nothing_o but_o misery_n and_o trouble_n and_o at_o length_n he_o become_v the_o executioner_n and_o perpetual_a tormenter_n of_o they_o who_o he_o make_v to_o serve_v he_o such_o a_o master_n be_v sin_n and_o such_o wage_n you_o may_v expect_v consider_v then_o what_o your_o expectation_n be_v before_o you_o go_v on_o or_o engage_v further_o death_n we_o be_v under_o a_o law_n of_o bodily_a death_n therefore_o we_o be_v mortal_a our_o house_n be_v like_o a_o ruinous_a lodge_n that_o drop_v through_o and_o one_o day_n or_o other_o it_o must_v fall_v sin_n have_v bring_v in_o the_o seed_n of_o corruption_n in_o man_n nature_n which_o dissolve_v it_o else_o it_o have_v be_v immortal_a but_o there_o be_v a_o worse_a deâ—th_n after_o this_o a_o live_a death_n in_o respect_n of_o which_o simple_a death_n will_v be_v choose_v rather_o man_n will_v rather_o live_v very_o miserable_o then_o die_v nature_n have_v a_o aversation_n of_o it_o skin_n for_o skin_n
