those_o scruple_n and_o doubt_n into_o their_o mind_n with_o a_o secret_a pleasure_n and_o have_v entertain_v they_o let_v they_o rest_n and_o take_v up_o their_o lodging_n there_o very_o willing_o because_o they_o will_v plead_v their_o excuse_n they_o fancy_v for_o not_o do_v their_o duty_n and_o be_v a_o defence_n to_o their_o lazyness_n worldly_a mindedness_n and_o other_o naughty_a affection_n in_o short_a doubt_n and_o scruple_n never_o arise_v in_o good_a man_n mind_n without_o grief_n nor_o stay_v there_o without_o much_o trouble_n and_o therefore_o they_o long_v to_o be_v rid_v of_o they_o and_o be_v glad_a when_o they_o be_v discharge_v because_o they_o hinder_v the_o performance_n of_o their_o christian_a duty_n but_o bad_a man_n not_o only_o listen_v to_o they_o willing_o but_o embrace_v they_o as_o welcome_a guest_n which_o they_o cherish_v and_o never_o part_v withal_o without_o difficulty_n and_o some_o sort_n of_o inward_a displeasure_n because_o they_o desire_v the_o worldly_a spirit_n that_o be_v in_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v leave_v without_o all_o excuse_n but_o have_v something_o to_o say_v for_o itself_o when_o it_o be_v press_v by_o the_o force_n of_o religion_n against_o its_o inclination_n search_v and_o try_v yourselves_o by_o this_o mark_n and_o the_o lord_n give_v you_o a_o right_a judgement_n in_o all_o thing_n for_o jesus_n foundation_n it_o have_v not_o be_v so_o general_o neglect_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o frequent_v as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v no_o not_o upon_o such_o great_a and_o solemn_a day_n as_o this_o when_o we_o be_v assemble_v to_o commemorate_v that_o stupendous_a grace_n which_o our_o lord_n purchase_v for_o we_o by_o his_o precious_a blood_n and_o bestow_v upon_o his_o church_n in_o send_v the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o comforter_n to_o be_v a_o witness_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o exaltation_n at_o god_n right_a hand_n and_o to_o confirm_v we_o in_o the_o belief_n of_o all_o that_o he_o have_v teach_v and_o appoint_v in_o his_o church_n for_o we_o content_v ourselves_o only_o with_o the_o common_a prayer_n and_o i_o wish_v i_o can_v say_v that_o they_o be_v due_o attend_v and_o with_o the_o sermon_n and_o then_o turn_v our_o back_n on_o that_o part_n of_o the_o divine_a service_n which_o be_v proper_o christian_n and_o consequent_o be_v above_o all_o other_o most_o for_o the_o institution_n be_v record_v by_o the_o two_o next_o evangelist_n st._n mark_n and_o st._n luke_n and_o here_o again_o in_o this_o chapter_n by_o st._n paul_n which_o two_o last_n name_v say_v that_o our_o saviour_n add_v these_o word_n in_o the_o institution_n of_o this_o sacrament_n this_o do_v in_o remembrance_n of_o i_o luk._n xxii_o 19_o 1_o cor._n xi_o 24_o 25._o which_o enjoin_v this_o duty_n by_o as_o express_v a_o command_n as_o those_o of_o old_a remember_v the_o sabbath_n day_n to_o keep_v it_o holy_a and_o honour_v thy_o father_n and_o thy_o mother_n which_o may_v henceforth_o be_v blot_v out_o of_o the_o number_n of_o the_o commandment_n if_o we_o take_v this_o to_o
be_v none_o this_o do_v in_o remembrance_n of_o i_o for_o we_o can_v see_v no_o difference_n at_o all_o in_o the_o way_n and_o manner_n of_o the_o expression_n wherein_o these_o thing_n be_v deliver_v not_o those_o last_o word_n of_o our_o bless_a saviour_n do_v this_o in_o remembrance_n of_o i_o which_o be_v more_o than_o a_o request_n nay_o more_o than_o a_o command_n be_v his_o last_o will_n and_o testament_n which_o he_o be_v about_o to_o seal_v with_o his_o blood_n and_o the_o last_o will_n of_o he_o who_o love_v we_o better_o than_o his_o own_o life_n who_o die_v that_o we_o may_v live_v who_o of_o his_o own_o accord_n lay_v down_o his_o life_n which_o no_o body_n have_v power_n to_o take_v away_o for_o he_o have_v all_o thing_n even_o angel_n themselves_o at_o his_o command_n and_o more_o particular_o be_v our_o most_o gracious_a lord_n and_o master_n and_o have_v the_o most_o unquestionable_a authority_n over_o every_o one_o of_o we_o who_o can_v therefore_o neglect_v this_o his_o last_o will_n and_o testament_n without_o the_o most_o dreadful_a aggravation_n of_o such_o disobedience_n nay_o contempt_n as_o will_v remain_v without_o a_o name_n till_o that_o terrible_a day_n when_o he_o shall_v come_v himself_o to_o charge_n man_n with_o this_o guilt_n of_o slight_v his_o die_a word_n think_v of_o it_o i_o beseech_v you_o what_o sort_n of_o command_v true_a love_n and_o affection_n to_o he_o which_o be_v hereby_o try_v more_o than_o by_o other_o duty_n of_o religion_n unto_o which_o there_o be_v something_o in_o nature_n to_o incline_v we_o and_o it_o be_v make_v our_o manifest_a interest_n by_o the_o frame_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n and_o by_o the_o constitution_n of_o that_o society_n one_o man_n have_v with_o another_o to_o be_v therefore_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o be_v a_o pure_a respect_n to_o he_o the_o mere_a effect_n of_o our_o faith_n in_o he_o and_o a_o singular_a proof_n of_o the_o love_n and_o the_o reverence_n which_o we_o bear_v towards_o he_o as_o the_o neglect_n of_o it_o be_v a_o evident_a demonstration_n that_o whatsoever_o natural_a virtue_n man_n may_v have_v they_o have_v no_o christian_a and_o so_o have_v no_o title_n to_o go_v to_o that_o bless_a place_n where_o christ_n our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n be_v this_o be_v the_o first_o upon_o which_o i_o have_v stay_v the_o long_o because_o it_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o that_o follow_v for_o ii_o second_o upon_o this_o precept_n of_o christ_n the_o apostle_n build_v their_o practice_n after_o his_o resurrection_n from_o the_o dead_a and_o ascension_n to_o heaven_n from_o whence_o he_o send_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o confirm_v that_o which_o he_o have_v institute_v and_o ordain_v for_o immediate_o upon_o this_o on_o the_o very_a day_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n come_v down_o the_o number_n of_o christian_n be_v enlarge_v by_o the_o addition_n of_o three_o thousand_o soul_n to_o the_o church_n all_o those_o convert_v continue_v steadfast_o in_o the_o apostle_n doctrine_n and_o fellowship_n and_o in_o break_v of_o bread_n and_o in_o prayer_n act._n two_o 42._o which_o show_v that_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v themselves_o together_o by_o that_o common_a tie_n of_o charity_n which_o their_o lord_n have_v institute_v and_o command_v they_o to_o use_v for_o this_o very_a end_n among_o other_o that_o they_o may_v be_v knit_v together_o in_o one_o body_n be_v of_o one_o mind_n and_o heart_n and_o live_v in_o peace_n no_o they_o be_v all_o break_a in_o piece_n they_o be_v tear_v in_o sunder_o and_o continue_v so_o and_o hate_v and_o malign_v and_o bite_v and_o devour_v one_o another_o and_o that_o with_o a_o most_o implacable_a rage_n and_o malice_n to_o the_o great_a scandal_n of_o religion_n the_o spoil_n of_o humane_a society_n the_o danger_n of_o overturning_a government_n and_o thereby_o ruine_v all_o our_o outward_a comfort_n and_o shall_v we_o heighten_v this_o guilt_n by_o add_v this_o aggravation_n to_o it_o that_o we_o love_v to_o have_v it_o so_o if_o we_o have_v any_o kindness_n leave_v one_o for_o another_o nay_o any_o kindness_n for_o ourselves_o let_v we_o not_o refuse_v the_o mean_n of_o a_o cure_n this_o sovereign_a mean_n which_o alone_o will_v prove_v a_o effectual_a remedy_n be_v a_o remedy_n of_o god_n own_o prescription_n and_o appointment_n for_o
