of_o christ_n but_o you_o show_v forth_o the_o lord_n death_n so_o i_o acknowledge_v that_o this_o ceremony_n by_o those_o that_o practise_v it_o have_v a_o immediate_a relation_n to_o the_o outward_a body_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n upon_o the_o cross_n as_o be_v proper_o a_o memorial_n of_o it_o but_o it_o do_v not_o thence_o follow_v that_o it_o have_v any_o inward_a or_o immediate_a relation_n to_o believer_n communicate_v or_o partake_v of_o the_o spiritual_a body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n or_o that_o spiritual_a supper_n speak_v of_o rev._n 3.20_o for_o though_o in_o a_o general_a way_n as_o every_o religious_a action_n in_o some_o respect_n have_v a_o common_a relation_n to_o the_o spiritual_a communion_n of_o the_o saint_n with_o god_n so_o we_o shall_v not_o deny_v conceiving_n have_v they_o invent_v to_o enclose_v or_o affix_v the_o body_n of_o christ_n to_o their_o bread_n and_o wine_n from_o which_o opinion_n not_o only_o the_o great_a and_o fierce_a and_o most_o hurtful_a contest_v both_o among_o the_o professor_n of_o christianity_n in_o general_n and_o among_o protestant_n in_o particular_a have_v arisen_a but_o also_o such_o absurdity_n irrational_a and_o blasphemous_a

in_o contend_v for_o these_o shadow_n he_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o malice_n heat_n revenge_n and_o other_o vice_n by_o which_o he_o establish_v his_o kingdom_n of_o darkness_n among_o they_o and_o ruin_v the_o life_n of_o christianity_n for_o there_o have_v be_v more_o animosity_n and_o heat_n about_o this_o one_o particular_a and_o more_o blood_n shed_v and_o contention_n than_o about_o any_o other_o and_o sure_o they_o be_v little_o acquaint_v with_o the_o state_n of_o protestant_n affair_n who_o know_v not_o that_o their_o contention_n about_o this_o have_v be_v carnal_a ordinance_n no_o wonder_n if_o by_o their_o carnal_a apprehension_n they_o run_v into_o heap_n and_o confusion_n but_o because_o it_o have_v be_v general_o suppose_v that_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n have_v some_o special_a relation_n to_o the_o ceremony_n of_o break_v bread_n i_o first_o refute_v that_o opinion_n and_o then_o proceed_v to_o consider_v the_o nature_n and_o use_n of_o that_o ceremony_n and_o whether_o it_o be_v now_o necessary_a to_o continue_v answer_v the_o reason_n and_o objection_n of_o such_o as_o plead_v its_o continuance_n as_o a_o necessary_a and_o stand_a ordinance_n of_o jesus_n christ._n §_o v._o first_o it_o must_v be_v understand_v that_o i_o speak_v of_o a_o necessary_a and_o peculiar_a relation_n otherwise_o than_o in_o a_o general_a respect_n for_o forasmuch_o as_o our_o communion_n with_o christ_n be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v our_o great_a and_o chief_a work_n we_o ought_v to_o do_v all_o other_o thing_n with_o a_o respect_n to_o god_n and_o our_o fellowship_n with_o he_o but_o a_o special_a and_o necessary_a respect_n or_o relation_n be_v such_o as_o where_o the_o two_o thing_n be_v so_o tie_v and_o unite_v together_o either_o of_o their_o own_o nature_n or_o by_o the_o command_n of_o god_n that_o the_o one_o can_v be_v enjoy_v or_o at_o lest_o be_v not_o except_o very_o extraordinary_o without_o the_o other_o thus_o salvation_n have_v a_o necessary_a respect_n to_o holiness_n because_o without_o holiness_n no_o man_n shall_v see_v god_n and_o the_o eat_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n have_v a_o necessary_a respect_n to_o our_o have_a life_n because_o if_o we_o eat_v not_o his_o flesh_n and_o drink_v not_o his_o blood_n we_o can_v have_v life_n and_o blood_n be_v not_o true_o partake_v of_o so_o that_o since_o the_o very_a particular_a and_o express_a end_n of_o this_o ceremony_n may_v be_v witness_v to_o wit_n the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o lord_n death_n and_o yet_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n not_o partake_v of_o it_o can_v have_v have_v any_o necessary_a relation_n to_o it_o else_o the_o partake_n thereof_o will_v have_v be_v the_o end_n of_o it_o and_o can_v not_o have_v be_v attain_v without_o this_o participation_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a we_o may_v well_o infer_v hence_o that_o since_o the_o positive_a end_n
