blessing_n of_o god_n that_o come_v out_o of_o love_n to_o they_o but_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o receive_v that_o which_o be_v call_v the_o communion_n there_o we_o expect_v thing_n that_o be_v beyond_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o creature_n to_o convey_v that_o that_o be_v by_o a_o institution_n of_o god_n set_v apart_o for_o supernatural_a use_n and_o end_n not_o to_o convey_v in_o any_o natural_a way_n such_o and_o such_o thing_n but_o in_o a_o supernatural_a way_n through_o the_o institution_n of_o god_n and_o so_o it_o come_v to_o be_v worship_n have_v we_o not_o i_o say_v a_o command_n for_o this_o it_o be_v superstition_n and_o idolatry_n for_o we_o to_o make_v use_n of_o such_o creature_n for_o such_o end_n if_o any_o man_n in_o the_o world_n shall_v have_v appoint_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n or_o a_o draught_n of_o wine_n to_o have_v signify_v and_o seal_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n it_o have_v be_v superstition_n in_o any_o and_o will-worship_n and_o sinful_a and_o abominable_a to_o you_o but_o we_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o god_n set_v apart_o these_o creature_n for_o such_o holy_a and_o solemn_a end_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o be_v exercise_v in_o they_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n and_o we_o come_v likewise_o to_o tender_v up_o our_o homage_n to_o god_n when_o we_o come_v to_o attend_v upon_o he_o in_o such_o ordinance_n as_o at_o a_o table_n it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n that_o every_o bit_n of_o meat_n must_v be_v give_v to_o every_o one_o particular_o no_o but_o the_o dish_n must_v be_v set_v before_o they_o and_o they_o must_v take_v it_o themselves_o indeed_o if_o they_o be_v child_n you_o cut_v every_o piece_n of_o meat_n and_o give_v it_o into_o their_o hand_n or_o mouth_n but_o that_o be_v suitable_a to_o a_o fellowship_n at_o table_n and_o communion_n to_o have_v the_o meat_n set_v before_o they_o be_v blessed_v and_o then_o for_o all_o to_o partake_v of_o it_o and_o beside_o this_o giving_z it_o into_o every_o one_o hand_n certain_o it_o come_v to_o we_o from_o a_o popish_a and_o superstitous_a conceit_n of_o the_o papist_n for_o the_o papist_n will_v give_v it_o into_o their_o mouth_n now_o i_o be_o speak_v of_o be_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n so_o you_o have_v it_o in_o 1_o cor._n 10._o 6._o the_o cup_n of_o blessing_n which_o we_o bless_v be_v it_o not_o communion_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n the_o bread_n which_o we_o break_v be_v it_o not_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n i_o say_v we_o be_v now_o treat_v about_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n for_o to_o present_v ourselves_o for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n through_o these_o creature_n yea_o that_o we_o may_v have_v communion_n with_o god_n himself_o in_o they_o this_o be_v draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o when_o we_o come_v to_o his_o table_n therefore_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n have_v not_o god_n institute_v and_o appoint_v these_o creature_n bread_n and_o wine_n and_o the_o action_n about_o they_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o conveyance_n of_o blessing_n unto_o we_o it_o have_v be_v will-worship_n for_o we_o to_o have_v expect_v any_o further_a presence_n of_o god_n in_o such_o creature_n than_o there_o be_v in_o the_o
to_o lie_v upon_o one_o to_o shed_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o vile_a rogue_n that_o live_v in_o a_o murderous_a way_n it_o will_v lie_v upon_o the_o conscience_n and_o be_v very_o terrible_a it_o be_v impossible_a that_o such_o a_o man_n can_v be_v quiet_a all_o his_o day_n though_o he_o have_v never_o such_o a_o sear_a conscience_n a_o heathen_a can_v not_o be_v at_o quiet_a if_o he_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o blood_n lie_v upon_o he_o but_o to_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n who_o blood_n be_v ten_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o worth_a than_o the_o blood_n of_o all_o the_o man_n that_o ever_o live_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n must_v needs_o be_v a_o most_o dreadful_a thing_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a expression_n guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v he_o offer_v such_o a_o indignity_n to_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o lord_n will_v charge_v he_o of_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o guilty_a of_o abuse_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o he_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v his_o own_o damnation_n but_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o to_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v it_o here_o in_o this_o holy_a ordinance_n i_o will_v not_o therefore_o spend_v further_a time_n in_o those_o scripture_n they_o come_v to_o this_o ordinance_n than_o they_o must_v be_v good_a than_o they_o must_v not_o sin_n but_o have_v good_a thought_n and_o good_a prayer_n at_o that_o time_n and_o many_o time_n show_v what_o a_o power_n there_o be_v in_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n about_o this_o ordinance_n this_o ordinary_o be_v one_o of_o the_o first_o thing_n that_o strike_v upon_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n when_o they_o come_v to_o have_v their_o conscience_n awaken_v oh_o how_o have_v i_o profane_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o holy_a communion_n and_o have_v not_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o it_o that_o god_n shall_v be_v sanctify_v in_o this_o ordinance_n that_o be_v clear_a enough_o but_o now_o the_o great_a work_n be_v which_o be_v the_o three_o thing_n which_o i_o promise_v to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o this_o ordinance_n certain_o the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v be_v much_o take_v in_o vain_a there_o have_v be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pollution_n in_o the_o use_n of_o this_o ordinance_n and_o in_o man_n spirit_n when_o they_o have_v be_v exercise_v themselves_o in_o such_o a_o holy_a ordinance_n as_o this_o be_v therefore_o i_o will_v open_v this_o to_o you_o and_o shall_v not_o be_v very_o large_a in_o it_o only_o to_o show_v you_o the_o main_a and_o principal_a thing_n that_o may_v serve_v for_o the_o direction_n of_o we_o that_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v not_o be_v take_v in_o vain_a and_o dishonour_v as_o heretofore_o and_o i_o shall_v cast_v what_o i_o intend_v to_o speak_v of_o into_o these_o particular_n 1._o that_o whosoever_o be_v to_o partake_v of_o this_o must_v be_v holy_a himself_o none_o can_v sanctify_v god_n but_o he_o must_v have_v a_o sanctify_a heart_n himself_o second_o this_o ordinance_n it_o must_v be_v receive_v in_o a_o holy_a communion_n there_o must_v be_v a_o communion_n of_o saint_n for_o this_o ordinance_n and_o it_o can_v be_v receive_v any_o where_o else_o but_o in_o a_o communion_n of_o saint_n three_o the_o holy_a disposition_n of_o soul_n particular_o or_o the_o qualification_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v require_v or_o the_o sanictfy_n of_o god_n name_n in_o this_o ordinance_n four_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o exiplcite_fw-la go_v out_o of_o the_o soul_n that_o there_o be_v to_o be_v at_o the_o very_a time_n of_o receive_v five_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o institution_n of_o christ_n in_o our_o receive_n these_o thing_n be_v require_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o ordinance_n for_o the_o first_o those_o that_o come_v must_v be_v holy_a themselves_o this_o be_v a_o ordinance_n not_o appoint_v for_o conversion_n to_o make_v holy_a other_o that_o be_v not_o convert_v may_v come_v to_o the_o word_n because_o the_o word_n be_v appoint_v to_o work_v conversion_n it_o be_v appoint_v to_o work_v grace_n to_o work_v the_o first_o grace_n faith_n come_v by_o hear_v we_o do_v not_o find_v in_o all_o the_o scripture_n that_o this_o be_v appoint_v for_o conversion_n but_o suppose_v conversion_n none_o be_v to_o come_v to_o receive_v this_o sacrament_n but_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o before_o be_v convert_v by_o the_o word_n the_o word_n therefore_o be_v first_o to_o be_v preach_v to_o â—en_n for_o their_o conversion_n and_o then_o this_o be_v a_o ordinance_n appoint_v for_o to_o seal_v they_o therefore_o in_o the_o primitive_a time_n they_o let_v all_o come_v to_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n and_o then_o when_o the_o sermon_n be_v do_v there_o be_v a_o officer_n step_v up_o and_o cry_v holy_a thing_n for_o holy_a man_n and_o then_o all_o other_o where_o to_o go_v out_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v missa_fw-la though_o the_o papist_n do_v corrup_v it_o and_o so_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v believe_v and_o be_v save_v it_o be_v therefore_o appoint_v for_o believer_n and_o as_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o begin_v a_o seal_n suppose_v a_o covenant_n so_o none_o can_v have_v his_o covenant_n seal_v to_o they_o but_o those_o that_o do_v first_o submit_v to_o it_o and_o be_v bring_v into_o covenant_n when_o you_o make_v a_o indenture_n and_o put_v to_o the_o seal_n certain_o the_o seal_n belong_v only_o to_o those_o that_o have_v their_o name_n in_o the_o indenture_n now_o it_o be_v true_a though_o man_n name_n be_v not_o mention_v in_o the_o word_n yet_o the_o condition_n be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v bring_v in_o to_o believe_v in_o jesus_n chr_v say_v god_n i_o come_v now_o to_o seal_v all_o my_o mercy_n in_o christ_n to_o suitable_a to_o such_o a_o ordinance_n as_o this_o be_v and_o that_o be_v the_o three_o thing_n require_v in_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o this_o ordinance_n the_o purge_v out_o of_o sin_n and_o rise_v of_o the_o heart_n against_o it_o 4._o the_o four_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v do_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_v here_o it_o be_v the_o hunger_a and_o thirst_v of_o the_o soul_n after_o jesus_n christ_n whosoever_o come_v hither_o he_o come_v to_o a_o feast_n and_o the_o lord_n exspect_v that_o all_o his_o guest_n shall_v come_v with_o stomach_n unto_o his_o feast_n come_v the_o lord_n christ_n know_v my_o infinite_a need_n of_o he_o and_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n that_o there_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n my_o soul_n do_v famish_v and_o perish_v for_o ever_o without_o christ_n but_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o fullness_n for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o my_o soul_n that_o i_o have_v have_v of_o christ_n sometime_o in_o the_o word_n and_o sometime_o in_o prayer_n that_o have_v be_v sweet_a unto_o i_o but_o i_o expect_v a_o further_a communion_n with_o christ_n here_o for_o this_o be_v the_o grand_a ordinance_n for_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n indeed_o the_o word_n in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v beyond_o this_o ordinance_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n but_o for_o the_o beget_n this_o be_v only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o appoint_v for_o the_o beget_n now_o in_o that_o respect_n the_o word_n be_v above_o the_o sacrament_n but_o now_o this_o sacrament_n be_v a_o more_o full_a ordinance_n for_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o of_o his_o blood_n and_o therefore_o there_o ought_v to_o be_v hunger_a and_o thirst_a desire_n of_o the_o soul_n after_o jesus_n christ_n therefore_o you_o must_v take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o come_v with_o your_o stomach_n want_n at_o all_o of_o christ_n only_o they_o come_v and_o take_v a_o little_a piece_n of_o bread_n and_o a_o draught_n of_o wine_n but_o for_o any_o strong_a pause_v desire_n to_o meet_v with_o and_o who_o body_n be_v this_o it_o be_v no_o other_o but_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o he_o that_o be_v true_o god_n the_o second_o person_n in_o trinity_n this_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o this_o be_v very_o needful_a for_o we_o to_o be_v think_v of_o when_o we_o see_v the_o body_n break_v and_o the_o blood_n pour_v out_o what_o will_v the_o break_n of_o the_o body_n and_o shed_v of_o the_o blood_n of_o a_o mere_a creature_n be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v peace_n between_o god_n and_o man_n sure_o no_o therefore_o you_o must_v meditate_v who_o body_n this_o be_v and_o who_o blood_n this_o be_v it_o be_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o he_o that_o be_v god_n it_o be_v true_a god_n have_v no_o body_n nor_o no_o blood_n but_o the_o same_o person_n that_o you_o see_v the_o bread_n break_v and_o wing_n pour_v out_o oh_o the_o infinite_a dreadfulness_n of_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n how_o dreadful_a be_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n that_o come_v upon_o his_o own_o son_n and_o require_v satisfaction_n from_o he_o that_o shall_v thus_o break_v he_o and_o bruise_v he_o that_o shall_v have_v his_o blood_n that_o shall_v require_v such_o suffering_n even_o from_o his_o son_n dreadful_a be_v god_n justice_n the_o justice_n of_o god_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v and_o to_o be_v tremble_v at_o here_o we_o see_v what_o be_v require_v for_o the_o sin_n blood_n of_o christ_n every_o drop_n of_o which_o be_v more_o precious_a than_o ten_o thousand_o world_n med._n 7._o again_o from_o hence_o see_v what_o be_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n how_o great_a it_o be_v that_o have_v make_v such_o a_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o my_o soul_n that_o only_o such_o a_o way_n and_o such_o a_o mean_n must_v take_v away_o my_o sin_n i_o must_v either_o have_v lie_v heart_n of_o man_n med._n 8._o behold_v the_o infinite_a love_n of_o god_n to_o mankind_n and_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o rather_o than_o god_n will_v see_v the_o child_n of_o man_n to_o perish_v eternal_o he_o will_v send_v his_o son_n to_o take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o thus_o to_o suffer_v such_o dreadful_a thing_n herein_o god_n show_v his_o love_n it_o be_v not_o the_o love_n of_o god_n so_o much_o in_o give_v you_o a_o good_a voyage_n and_o prosper_v you_o outward_o in_o the_o world_n but_o so_o god_n love_v the_o world_n that_o he_o give_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n and_o it_o please_v the_o father_n to_o break_v his_o son_n and_o to_o power_n out_o his_o blood_n here_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o what_o a_o powerful_a mighty_a drawing_z efficacious_a meditation_n shall_v this_o be_v unto_o we_o med._n 9_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n they_o shall_v be_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n that_o ever_o a_o believer_n shall_v quite_o fall_v off_o from_o god_n and_o die_v in_o his_o sin_n why_o because_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v to_o he_o for_o his_o spiritual_a nourishment_n though_o a_o believer_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a yet_o see_v god_n have_v appoint_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n for_o he_o to_o feed_v upon_o and_o to_o drink_v in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n sure_o then_o the_o weak_a in_o the_o world_n will_v be_v strengthen_v to_o go_v through_o all_o the_o hazard_n and_o danger_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v this_o that_o strengthen_v believer_n to_o encounter_v with_o all_o kind_n of_o danger_n it_o be_v this_o that_o preserve_v the_o weak_a grace_n in_o a_o believer_n namely_o the_o spiritual_a nourishment_n that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v appoint_v to_o they_o even_o the_o feed_n upon_o the_o body_n and_o drink_v the_o very_a blood_n of_o his_o son_n this_o be_v meat_n indeed_o and_o drink_v indeed_o that_o will_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n med._n 10._o the_o last_o meditation_n be_v this_o when_o you_o come_v to_o this_o see_v the_o bread_n break_v and_o the_o wine_n pour_v out_o you_o have_v a_o occasion_n to_o meditate_v of_o the_o whole_a new_a covenant_n the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o god_n have_v make_v with_o sinner_n for_o so_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n be_v this_o be_v the_o cup_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o new_a testament_n which_o be_v all_o one_o with_o the_o new_a covenant_n only_o different_a in_o this_o particular_a it_o contain_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n but_o call_v testament_n in_o this_o regard_n to_o show_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v do_v all_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n that_o be_v he_o do_v not_o only_o promise_v such_o and_o such_o mercy_n upon_o condition_n of_o our_o believe_a and_o repent_v but_o he_o do_v work_n believe_v and_o repent_v and_o work_v grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o same_o thing_n that_o be_v sometime_o call_v a_o covenant_n be_v call_v a_o testament_n that_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n wherein_o the_o lord_n do_v bequeath_v his_o rich_a legacy_n to_o his_o child_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v eternal_o save_v so_o that_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v bequeath_v by_o way_n of_o testament_n as_o well_o as_o covenant_n and_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfortable_a meditation_n to_o the_o saint_n for_o indeed_o when_o they_o look_v upon_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o in_o a_o way_n of_o covenant_n why_o then_o they_o think_v thus_o this_o require_v somewhat_o of_o our_o part_n to_o be_v do_v and_o indeed_o god_n will_v
