of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n who_o blood_n be_v ten_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o worth_a than_o the_o blood_n of_o all_o the_o man_n that_o ever_o live_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n must_v need_v be_v a_o most_o dreadful_a thing_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a expression_n guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v he_o offer_v such_o a_o indignity_n to_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o lord_n will_v charge_v he_o of_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o guilty_a of_o abuse_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o he_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v his_o own_o damnation_n but_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o to_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v it_o here_o in_o this_o holy_a ordinance_n i_o will_v not_o therefore_o spend_v further_a time_n in_o those_o scripture_n for_o i_o bring_v they_o only_o now_o to_o show_v that_o need_n of_o he_o and_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n that_o there_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n my_o soul_n do_v famish_v and_o perish_v for_o ever_o without_o christ_n but_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o fullness_n for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o my_o soul_n that_o i_o have_v have_v of_o christ_n sometime_o in_o the_o word_n and_o sometime_o in_o prayer_n that_o have_v be_v sweet_a unto_o i_o but_o i_o expect_v a_o further_a communion_n of_o christ_n here_o for_o this_o be_v the_o grand_a ordinance_n for_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n indeed_o the_o word_n in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v beyond_o this_o ordinance_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n but_o for_o the_o beget_n this_o be_v only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o appoint_v for_o the_o beget_n now_o in_o that_o respect_n the_o word_n be_v above_o the_o sacrament_n but_o now_o this_o sacrament_n be_v a_o more_o full_a ordinance_n for_o as_o they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o live_v without_o christ_n even_o as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v a_o hunger_v can_v live_v without_o his_o meat_n and_o drink_n and_o so_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o have_v the_o eye_n of_o their_o body_n they_o only_o see_v as_o it_o be_v a_o paint_a christ_n they_o do_v not_o see_v christ_n real_o his_o body_n and_o blood_n and_o those_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o and_o say_v soul_n here_o receive_v a_o new_a this_o day_n my_o son_n with_o all_o that_o he_o have_v purchase_v for_o thy_o good_a now_o than_o the_o soul_n act_v upon_o this_o and_o by_o stir_v up_o neither_o to_o erse_v on_o the_o right_a hand_n nor_o the_o left_a to_o make_v any_o alteration_n in_o the_o point_n of_o institution_n now_o therefore_o for_o the_o institution_n of_o this_o apart_o as_o a_o ordinance_n a_o institution_n appoint_v to_o that_o end_n that_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o look_v upon_o that_o for_o the_o break_n of_o their_o heart_n there_o be_v indeed_o a_o naturalness_n in_o it_o that_o if_o they_o do_v behold_v christ_n it_o may_v break_v their_o heart_n but_o it_o be_v not_o such_o a_o ordinance_n it_o be_v not_o a_o sacrament_n as_o this_o be_v now_o this_o be_v in_o a_o sacramental_a way_n in_o the_o use_n of_o a_o ordinance_n appoint_v by_o jesus_n christ_n to_o set_v forth_o his_o suffering_n and_o all_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n to_o the_o soul_n there_o may_v be_v expect_v here_o a_o further_a blessing_n than_o in_o the_o other_o though_o its_o true_a the_o other_o may_v work_v mighty_o upon_o the_o heart_n but_o yet_o this_o be_v a_o great_a ordinance_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o church_n a_o great_a institution_n of_o jesus_n christ_n
and_o cast_v its_o self_n upon_o jesus_n christ_n and_o say_v as_o it_o be_v amen_o to_o what_o the_o father_n give_v oh_o lord_n here_o i_o come_v and_o embrace_v thy_o son_n as_o my_o life_n as_o my_o saviour_n as_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o my_o good_a in_o who_o i_o expect_v all_o the_o good_a i_o be_o like_a to_o have_v either_o here_o or_o to_o all_o eternity_n so_o that_o there_o must_v be_v a_o stir_v up_o of_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n in_o a_o actual_a take_n of_o christ_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o believer_n can_v thou_o remember_v what_o thou_o do_v when_o first_o thou_o do_v take_v jesus_n christ_n when_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o his_o word_n do_v reveal_v jesus_n christ_n to_o thy_o soul_n what_o do_v thou_o then_o oh_o soul_n how_o do_v thy_o soul_n work_v in_o close_v with_o christ_n as_o thy_o soul_n do_v then_o in_o close_v with_o christ_n so_o it_o must_v now_o renew_v the_o work_n there_o must_v be_v a_o renewall_n of_o the_o work_n at_o that_o time_n so_o that_o when_o you_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n you_o must_v not_o think_v that_o it_o be_v then_o a_o time_n to_o listen_v to_o doubt_n fear_n and_o scruple_n no_o but_o it_o be_v a_o time_n that_o god_n call_v for_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n the_o cast_n of_o the_o soul_n upon_o christ_n and_o his_o merit_n for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n or_o else_o the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v not_o sanctify_v as_o it_o ought_v thou_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n when_o thou_o be_v busy_v thy_o soul_n in_o doubt_n and_o scruple_n in_o thy_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o then_o faith_n be_v as_o the_o mouth_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o eat_v and_o drink_v how_o can_v thou_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o a_o mouth_n thou_o have_v a_o bodily_a mouth_n to_o take_v in_o bread_n and_o wine_n but_o know_v that_o without_o faith_n thy_o soul_n can_v take_v in_o christ_n faith_n be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o mouth_n that_o be_v by_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n the_o soul_n do_v open_v itself_o for_o jesus_n christ_n and_o not_o only_o open_v itself_o but_o take_v in_o christ_n to_o the_o soul_n and_o make_v christ_n and_o the_o soul_n as_o one_o as_o our_o bread_n and_o wine_n be_v make_v one_o with_o our_o body_n so_o faith_n take_v in_o christ_n and_o make_v he_o as_o one_o with_o thou_o and_o turn_v christ_n into_o the_o nourishment_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o thou_o and_o christ_n by_o faith_n be_v make_v as_o true_o one_o as_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n that_o be_v put_v into_o thy_o body_n be_v make_v one_o with_o thy_o body_n this_o be_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n without_o which_o we_o can_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n six_o there_o must_v be_v spiritual_a joy_n that_o must_v be_v exercise_v here_o for_o it_o be_v a_o feast_n here_o we_o come_v to_o sit_v with_o christ_n at_o his_o table_n we_o come_v as_o child_n to_o our_o father_n table_n and_o to_o sit_v there_o with_o jesus_n christ_n our_o elder_a brother_n now_o as_o a_o father_n do_v not_o love_n to_o have_v his_o child_n set_v in_o a_o sullen_a and_o dogged_a way_n at_o his_o table_n or_o to_o be_v cry_v but_o he_o will_v have_v the_o child_n set_v in_o comfort_n and_o with_o a_o holy_a cheerfulness_n with_o a_o holy_a freedom_n of_o spirit_n not_o in_o a_o sullen_a way_n but_o as_o a_o child_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o his_o father_n and_o not_o as_o a_o servant_n with_o the_o master_n object_n you_o tell_v we_o before_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v brokenness_n of_o spirit_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o sin_n answ_n that_o may_v be_v and_o joy_n we_o rejoice_v with_o tremble_v therefore_o that_o brokennesse_n of_o spirit_n that_o i_o mean_v must_v not_o be_v slavish_a horror_n and_o fear_n but_o a_o kind_o melt_v of_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o apprehension_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n and_o evangelical_a joy_n may_v stand_v together_o very_o well_o and_o therefore_o know_v that_o this_o be_v not_o the_o time_n neither_o to_o give_v liberty_n to_o have_v your_o heart_n â—nk_v no_o there_o must_v be_v no_o sink_a sorrow_n of_o heart_n but_o such_o a_o sorrow_n of_o heart_n as_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o it_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o reconcile_a father_n to_o you_o and_o have_v a_o cheerfulness_n of_o spirit_n as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n you_o must_v look_v upon_o yourselves_o as_o god_n guest_n to_o be_v merry_a at_o his_o table_n now_o this_o be_v a_o great_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n that_o there_o shall_v be_v at_o the_o same_o time_n the_o sight_n of_o christ_n crucify_a and_o yet_o at_o the_o same_o time_n a_o spiritual_a cheerfulness_n in_o the_o assurance_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o mystery_n and_o only_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n be_v here_o present_v unto_o they_o in_o this_o sacrament_n seven_o in_o the_o next_o place_n there_o must_v be_v thankfulness_n therefore_o it_o be_v call_v the_o eucharist_n and_o in_o one_o of_o the_o evengelist_n where_o it_o be_v say_v christ_n blessed_v the_o bread_n in_o another_o it_o be_v say_v christ_n give_v thanks_o christ_n when_o he_o institute_v this_o sacrament_n he_o give_v thanks_o he_o give_v thanks_o for_o what_o he_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n the_o father_n that_o he_o be_v please_v to_o send_v he_o into_o the_o world_n to_o die_v for_o poor_a soul_n now_o shall_v jesus_n christ_n give_v thanks_o unto_o god_n the_o father_n for_o that_o that_o do_v cost_v he_o his_o life_n yea_o say_v christ_n i_o see_v that_o here_o be_v a_o way_n to_o save_v soul_n and_o let_v it_o come_v to_o have_v this_o bread_n this_o bread_n of_o life_n here_o be_v matter_n of_o thankfulness_n here_o be_v matter_n of_o enlargement_n of_o soul_n thou_o that_o have_v the_o dead_a and_o dull_a soul_n and_o straight_a spirit_n yet_o when_o thou_o come_v hither_o and_o understand_v what_o thou_o do_v here_o thou_o can_v not_o but_o see_v matter_n for_o the_o enlargement_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o wish_v that_o thou_o have_v ten_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o strength_n to_o express_v the_o praise_n of_o the_o lord_n here_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o must_v be_v the_o subject_n of_o it_o and_o break_v it_o and_o give_v it_o and_o the_o people_n they_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o all_o this_o to_o look_v upon_o the_o minister_n take_v blessing_n break_v and_o give_v and_o then_o the_o cup_n by_o its_o self_n we_o find_v christ_n in_o matth._n 26.27_o he_o first_o blessed_v the_o bread_n and_o then_o he_o bless_v the_o cup_n distinct_o by_o its_o self_n say_v this_o be_v my_o set_v before_o they_o and_o they_o must_v take_v it_o themselves_o indeed_o if_o they_o be_v child_n you_o cut_v every_o piece_n of_o meat_n and_o give_v it_o into_o their_o hand_n or_o mouth_n but_o that_o be_v suitable_a to_o a_o fellowship_n at_o table_n and_o communion_n to_o have_v the_o meat_n set_v before_o they_o be_v blessed_v and_o then_o for_o all_o to_o partake_v of_o it_o and_o beside_o this_o giving_z it_o into_o every_o one_o hand_n certain_o it_o come_v to_o we_o from_o a_o popish_a and_o superstitious_a conceit_n of_o the_o papist_n for_o the_o papist_n will_v give_v great_a deal_n of_o danger_n for_o to_o bring_v in_o man_n devise_n for_o to_o cause_v more_o reverence_n we_o be_v to_o look_v to_o the_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n he_o give_v it_o once_o and_o say_v drink_v you_o all_o of_o it_o in_o general_n to_o they_o all_o and_o so_o the_o minister_n shall_v do_v and_o beside_o there_o be_v this_o in_o it_o more_o and_o one_o will_v wonder_v that_o minister_n shall_v give_v it_o in_o particular_a and_o not_o in_o general_a to_o the_o church_n for_o by_o this_o mean_n minister_n may_v abundant_o ease_v themselves_o of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o charge_n and_o guilt_n for_o upon_o this_o ground_n it_o will_v appear_v that_o a_o minister_n though_o as_o a_o eminent_a officer_n he_o be_v to_o look_v to_o his_o congregation_n that_o they_o be_v fit_a yet_o the_o truth_n be_v it_o concern_v the_o church_n as_o well_o to_o look_v who_o come_v there_o and_o likewise_o the_o minister_n i_o say_v to_o look_v about_o he_o that_o he_o do_v not_o say_v the_o body_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v give_v to_o thou_o when_o he_o know_v they_o be_v profane_a and_o wicked_a it_o concern_v the_o minister_n to_o look_v that_o he_o do_v not_o tell_v a_o lie_n but_o now_o when_o the_o minister_n give_v it_o general_o to_o the_o church_n take_v eat_v and_o take_v drink_v he_o give_v it_o particular_o to_o no_o body_n now_o than_o his_o charge_n be_v divide_v to_o the_o church_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o body_n that_o be_v unworthy_a let_v the_o church_n look_v to_o it_o as_o well_o as_o he_o though_o he_o as_o a_o eminent_a officer_n it_o be_v more_o especial_o in_o particular_a his_o duty_n then_o any_o other_o heretofore_o the_o charge_n will_v lie_v much_o upon_o the_o minister_n but_o the_o minister_n according_a to_o the_o institution_n shall_v give_v the_o sacrament_n to_o no_o particular_a but_o in_o general_a to_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o if_o there_o be_v but_o any_o particular_a that_o the_o minister_n upon_o a_o particular_a knowledge_n do_v know_v to_o be_v naught_o he_o may_v in_o great_a part_n discharge_v himself_o as_o profess_v against_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a man_n for_o while_n the_o communicant_n be_v take_v eat_a and_o drink_v the_o bread_n and_o wine_n they_o shall_v all_o of_o they_o that_o while_o have_v their_o thought_n exercise_v about_o the_o death_n of_o believer_n they_o shall_v be_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n that_o ever_o a_o believer_n shall_v quite_o fall_v off_o from_o god_n and_o die_v in_o his_o sin_n why_o because_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v unto_o he_o for_o his_o spiritual_a nourishment_n though_o a_o believer_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a yet_o see_v god_n have_v appoint_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n for_o he_o to_o feed_v upon_o and_o to_o drink_v in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n sure_o then_o the_o weak_a in_o the_o world_n will_v be_v strengthen_v to_o go_v through_o all_o the_o hazard_n and_o danger_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v this_o that_o strengthen_v believer_n to_o encounter_v with_o all_o kind_n of_o danger_n it_o be_v this_o that_o preserve_v the_o weak_a grace_n in_o a_o believer_n namely_o the_o spiritual_a nourishment_n that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v appoint_v to_o they_o even_o the_o feed_n upon_o the_o body_n and_o drink_v the_o very_a blood_n of_o his_o son_n this_o be_v meat_n indeed_o and_o drink_v indeed_o that_o will_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n med._n 10._o the_o last_o meditation_n of_o god_n wherein_o the_o lord_n do_v bequeath_v his_o rich_a legacy_n to_o his_o child_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v eternal_o save_v so_o that_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v bequeath_v by_o way_n of_o testament_n as_o well_o as_o covenant_n and_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfortable_a meditation_n to_o the_o saint_n for_o indeed_o when_o they_o look_v upon_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o in_o a_o way_n of_o covenant_n why_o then_o they_o think_v this_o this_o require_v somewhat_o of_o our_o part_n to_o be_v do_v and_o indeed_o god_n will_v keep_v covenant_n on_o his_o part_n but_o it_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v not_o keep_v covenant_n on_o we_o and_o so_o we_o may_v fail_v at_o last_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o look_v upon_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o gospel_n dispense_v in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o testament_n that_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n the_o legacy_n that_o god_n do_v bequeath_v to_o his_o servant_n this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfort_n to_o the_o soul_n that_o all_o the_o precious_a thing_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v to_o i_o in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o testament_n and_o that_o be_v the_o only_o new_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n that_o god_n make_v with_o adam_n but_o new_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o administration_n our_o forefather_n the_o patriarch_n they_o have_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o substance_n but_o administer_v in_o a_o dark_a way_n and_o many_o difference_n there_o be_v but_o now_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o the_o new_a testament_n there_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o all_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o legacy_n and_o in_o the_o administration_n of_o it_o with_o clearness_n and_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n the_o terror_n and_o harshness_n of_o the_o old_a administration_n be_v take_v away_o now_o these_o be_v the_o meditation_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o sanctify_v our_o heart_n when_o we_o be_v receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o in_o the_o work_n of_o these_o meditation_n upon_o our_o heart_n we_o shall_v come_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o we_o be_v draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o in_o that_o holy_a ordinance_n of_o he_o thus_o for_o meditation_n the_o next_o thing_n when_o we_o be_v there_o must_v be_v a_o actuate_a of_o these_o holy_a disposition_n that_o before_o we_o speak_v of_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o christian_n to_o bring_v grace_n to_o the_o sacrament_n but_o there_o must_v be_v a_o
