priestly_a office_n he_o alone_o discourse_v both_o before_o and_o after_o and_o in_o the_o follow_a verse_n call_v his_o ministry_n or_o office_n in_o respect_n to_o this_o a_o more_o excellent_a ministry_n ver_fw-la 6._o he_o be_v such_o a_o priest_n as_o be_v high_a than_o the_o heaven_n as_o he_o have_v set_v he_o out_o in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o former_a chap._n and_o therefore_o you_o may_v observe_v how_o in_o his_o preface_n to_o this_o epistle_n to_o the_o heb._n in_o the_o first_o chap._n ver_fw-la 3._o he_o hold_v up_o this_o to_o our_o eye_n as_o the_o argument_n of_o the_o whole_a say_v when_o he_o have_v by_o himself_o purge_v our_o sin_n he_o sit_v down_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o majesty_n on_o high_a yea_o ineffectual_a his_o oblation_n else_o will_v have_v be_v ineffectual_a to_o conclude_v this_o all_z his_o priesthood_n will_v have_v be_v ineffectual_a if_o he_o have_v not_o act_v the_o part_n of_o a_o priest_n in_o heaven_n by_o intercession_n there_o for_o by_o his_o death_n he_o do_v but_o begin_v the_o execution_n of_o his_o office_n in_o heaven_n he_o end_v it_o and_o if_o he_o have_v not_o fulfil_v his_o office_n in_o both_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n have_v not_o be_v full_o perfect_v it_o be_v therefore_o as_o necessary_a as_o oblation_n itself_o not_o but_o that_o his_o death_n be_v a_o perfect_a oblation_n it_o be_v perfect_a for_o a_o oblation_n to_o which_o as_o such_o nothing_o can_v be_v add_v there_o need_v no_o more_o nor_o anyother_n price_n to_o be_v pay_v for_o we_o by_o that_o one_o offering_n he_o perfect_v we_o for_o ever_o as_o heb._n 10._o 14._o and_o become_v himself_o perfect_a thereby_o heb._n 5._o 9_o and_o in_o the_o 9_o chapter_n ver_fw-la 12._o by_o his_o own_o blood_n he_o enter_v into_o the_o holy_a place_n have_v obtain_v eternal_a redemption_n for_o we_o mark_v how_o before_o he_o enter_v by_o his_o blood_n into_o heaven_n he_o have_v full_o obtain_v a_o redemption_n and_o that_o eternal_a that_o be_v for_o ever_o sufficient_a which_o do_v he_o become_v through_o his_o intercession_n in_o heaven_n a_o apply_v cause_n of_o eternal_a salvation_n a_o heb._n 5._o 10_o 11._o have_v it_o so_o that_o as_o in_o his_o death_n he_o pay_v the_o full_a sum_n
all_o i_o know_v thy_o work_n thy_o labour_n and_o thy_o patience_n etc._n etc._n rev._n 22._o he_o therewithal_o have_v a_o act_n of_o memory_n and_o recall_v how_o himself_n be_v once_o affect_v thereof_o so_o he_o remember_v it_o also_o to_o affect_v his_o own_o heart_n with_o what_o we_o feel_v and_o his_o memory_n present_v the_o impression_n of_o the_o like_a now_o afresh_o unto_o he_o how_o it_o be_v once_o with_o he_o hence_o he_o come_v feel_o and_o experimental_o to_o know_v how_o it_o be_v now_o with_o we_o and_o so_o affect_v himself_o therewith_o as_o dido_n in_o virgil_n haud_fw-la ignara_fw-la mali_fw-la miseris_fw-la succurrere_fw-la disco_fw-la having_n experience_n of_o the_o like_a misery_n though_o a_o queen_n now_o i_o know_v how_o to_o succour_v those_o that_o be_v therein_o as_o god_n say_v to_o the_o israelite_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v possess_v of_o canaan_n their_o own_o land_n exo._n 23._o 9_o you_o know_v the_o heart_n of_o stranger_n see_v you_o be_v stranger_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o do_v command_v they_o to_o pity_v stranger_n and_o to_o use_v they_o well_o upon_o that_o motive_n so_o may_v it_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n that_o he_o do_v know_v the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n in_o misery_n see_v himself_o be_v once_o under_o the_o like_a or_o as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v the_o hebrew_n heb._n 13._o 3._o remember_v they_o that_o be_v in_o bond_n as_o bind_v with_o they_o and_o they_o that_o suffer_v adversity_n as_o be_v yourselves_o in_o the_o body_n and_o so_o ere_o you_o die_v may_v come_v to_o suffer_v the_o like_a so_o christ_n have_v not_o only_o such_o affection_n as_o be_v real_a and_o proper_a to_o a_o humane_a nature_n but_o such_o affection_n as_o be_v stir_v up_o in_o he_o from_o experience_n of_o the_o like_a by_o himself_o once_o taste_v in_o a_o frail_a nature_n like_o unto_o we_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o way_n of_o let_v in_o all_o our_o misery_n into_o christ_n heart_n now_o so_o as_o to_o strike_v and_o affect_v it_o with_o they_o §._o ii_o a_o more_o particular_a disquisition_n what_o manner_n of_o affection_n this_o be_v the_o seat_n thereof_o whether_o in_o his_o spirit_n or_o soul_n only_o or_o the_o whole_a humane_a nature_n some_o caution_n add_v but_o concern_v this_o affection_n itself_o of_o pity_n and_o compassion_n fellow-feeling_n and_o sympathy_n or_o suffer_v with_o as_o the_o text_n call_v it_o which_o be_v the_o product_n result_n or_o thing_n produce_v in_o his_o heart_n by_o these_o there_o still_o remain_v another_o thing_n more_o particular_o to_o be_v inquire_v into_o namely_o what_o manner_n of_o affection_n this_o be_v for_o that_o such_o a_o affection_n be_v stir_v up_o in_o he_o beside_o and_o beyond_o a_o bare_a act_n of_o knowledge_n or_o remembrance_n how_o once_o it_o be_v with_o himself_o be_v evident_a by_o what_o we_o find_v in_o the_o text._n the_o apostle_n say_v not_o only_o that_o he_o remember_v how_o himself_o be_v tempt_v with_o the_o like_a infirmity_n that_o we_o be_v though_o that_o be_v necessary_o suppose_v but_o that_o he_o be_v strike_v and_o touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o infirmity_n to_o the_o produce_v of_o which_o this_o act_n of_o remembrance_n do_v but_o subserve_v and_o he_o tell_v we_o christ_n be_v able_a and_o his_o heart_n be_v capable_a of_o thus_o be_v touch_v and_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d be_v a_o deep_a word_n signify_v to_o suffer_v with_o we_o until_o we_o be_v relieve_v and_o this_o affection_n thus_o stir_v up_o be_v it_o which_o move_v he_o so_o cordial_o to_o help_v we_o now_o concern_v this_o affection_n as_o here_o thus_o express_v how_o far_o it_o extend_v and_o how_o deep_a it_o may_v reach_v i_o think_v no_o man_n in_o this_o life_n can_v fathom_n if_o cor_fw-la regis_fw-la the_o heart_n of_o a_o king_n be_v inscrutable_a as_o solomon_n speak_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o king_n of_o king_n now_o in_o glory_n be_v much_o more_o i_o be_v clear_a by_o what_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o he_o and_o of_o his_o affection_n then_o heb._n 5._o 7._o who_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n when_o he_o have_v offer_v up_o prayer_n and_o supplication_n with_o strong_a cry_n and_o tear_n be_v hear_v in_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v where_o we_o see_v his_o converse_n and_o state_n of_o life_n here_o below_o to_o be_v call_v by_o way_n of_o difference_n and_o distinction_n from_o what_o it_o be_v now_o in_o heaven_n the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n by_o flesh_n mean_v not_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o humane_a nature_n for_o he_o retain_v that_o still_o but_o the_o frail_a quality_n of_o subjection_n to_o mortality_n or_o passibility_n so_o flesh_n be_v usual_o take_v as_o when_o all_o flesh_n be_v say_v to_o be_v grass_n it_o be_v speak_v of_o man_n nature_n in_o respect_n to_o its_o be_v subject_a to_o a_o fade_a wear_v and_o decay_n by_o outward_a casualty_n or_o inward_a passion_n so_o in_o this_o epistle_n chap._n 2._o 14._o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o child_n we_o his_o brethren_n do_v partake_v of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n that_o be_v the_o frailty_n of_o man_n nature_n he_o himself_o also_o take_v part_n of_o the_o same_o and_o according_o the_o apostle_n instance_v in_o the_o follow_a word_n of_o that_o 14._o verse_n as_o in_o death_n which_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n christ_n be_v subject_a to_o so_o also_o in_o such_o frail_a passion_n and_o affection_n as_o do_v work_v a_o suffering_n in_o he_o and_z a_o wearing_z and_o waste_v of_o his_o spirit_n such_o as_o passionate_a sorrow_n join_v with_o strong_a cry_n and_o tear_n both_o which_o he_o mention_v and_o also_o fear_v in_o those_o word_n he_o be_v hear_v in_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v now_o these_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n be_v over_o and_o past_a for_o this_o be_v only_o as_o say_v the_o apostle_n in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n hence_o therefore_o all_o such_o concomitant_a passionate_a overflowing_n of_o sorrow_n fear_n etc._n etc._n be_v cease_v therewith_o and_o he_o be_v now_o no_o way_n capable_a of_o they_o or_o subject_v to_o they_o yet_o 2._o positive_o why_o may_v it_o not_o be_v affirm_v that_o for_o substance_n the_o same_o kind_n of_o affection_n of_o pity_n and_o compassion_n that_o wrought_v in_o his_o whole_a man_n both_o body_n and_o soul_n when_o he_o be_v here_o work_v still_o in_o he_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o animal_n spirit_n remain_v and_o have_v their_o use_n for_o though_o christ_n in_o luke_n 24._o 29._o mention_v only_o his_o have_a flesh_n and_o bone_n after_o his_o resurrection_n unto_o thomas_n and_o the_o other_o disciple_n because_o these_o two_o alone_o be_v to_o be_v the_o object_n of_o his_o touch_n and_o feel_v yet_o blood_n
