from off their hands and burnt them on the altar upon the burnt-offering they were consecrations for a sweet savour it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD 29 And Moses took the breast and waved it for a wave offering before the LORD for of the ram of consecration it was Moses * Exe. 29.26 part as the LORD commanded Moses 30 And Moses took of the anointing oyl and of the bloud which was upon the altar and sprinkled it upon Aaron and upon his garments and upon his sons and upon his sons garments with him and sanctified Aaron and his garments and his sons and his sons garments with him 31 ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron and to his sons Boyl the flesh at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and there * Ex. 29 31. eat it with the bread that is in the basket of consecrations as I commanded saying Aaron and his sons shall eat it 32 And that which remaineth of the flesh and of the bread shall ye burn with fire 33 And ye shall not go out of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation in seven days until the days of your consecration be at an end for * Ex. 29 31. seven days shall he consecrate you 34 As he hath done this day so the LORD hath commanded to do to make an atonement for you 35 Therefore shall ye abide at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation day and nigâ—t seven days and keep the charge of the LORD that ye die not for so I am commanded 36 So Aaron and his sons did all things which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses CHAP. IX 1 The first offerings of Aaron for himself and the people 8 The sin-offering 12 and the burnt-offering for himself 15 The offerings for the people 23 Moses and Aaron bless the people 24 Fire cometh from the Lord upon the altar ANd it came to pass on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel 2 And he said unto Aaron * Ex. 29.1 Take thee a young call for a sin-offering and a ram for a burnt-offering without blemish and offer them before the LORD 3 And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak saying Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin-offering and a calf and a lamb both of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering 4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace-offerings to sacrifice before the LORD and a meat-offering mingled with oyl for to day the LORD will appear unto you 5 ¶ And they brought that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD 6 And Moses said This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you 7 And Moses said unto Aaron Go unto the altar and offer thy sin-offering and thy burnt-offering and make an atonement for thy self and for the people and offer the offering of the people and make an atonement for them as the LORD commanded 8 ¶ Aaron therefore went unto the altar and slew the calf of the sin-offering which was for himself 9 And the sons of Aaron brought the bloud unto him and he dipt his finger in the bloud and put it upon the horns of the altar and poured out the bloud at the bottom of the altar 10 But the fat and the kidneys and the caul above the liver of the sin-offering he burnt upon the altar as the LORD commanded Moses 11 And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp 12 And he slew the burnt-offering and Aarons sons presented unto him the bloud which he sprinkled round about upon the altar 13 And they presented the burnt-offering unto him with the pieces thereof and the head and he burnt them upon the altar 14 And he did wash the inwards and the legs and burnt them upon the burnt-offering on the altar 15 ¶ And he brought the peoples offering and took the goat which was the sin offering for the people and slew it and offered it for sin as the first 16 And he brought the burnt-offering and offered it according to the ‖ Or ordinance manner 17 And he brought the meat-offering and †Heb. filled his hand out of it took an handful thereof and burnt it upon the altar * Ex. 39.38 beside the burnt-sacrifice of the morning 18 He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace-offerings which was for the people and Aarons sons presented unto him the bloud which he sprinkled upon the altar round about 19 And the fat of the bullock and of the ram the rump and that which covereth the inwards and the kidneys and the caul above the liver 20 And they put the fat upon the breasts he burnt the fat upon the altar 21 And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave-offering before the LORD as Moses commanded 22 And Aaron lift up his hand towards the people and blessed them and came down from offering of the sin-offering and the burnt-offering and peace-offerings 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation and came out and blessed the people and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people 24 And * Gen. 4.4 1 Kin. 18.38 2 Chro. 7.1 2 Mac. 2.10 11. there came a fire out from before the LORD and consumed upon the altar the burnt-offering and the fat which when all the people saw they shouted and tell on their faces CHAP. VIII 1 Moses consecrateth Aaron and his sons 14 Their sin-offering 18 Their burnt-offering 22 The ram of consecrations 31 The place and time of their consecration ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Take Aaron and his sons with him and * Ex. 28.2 4 the garments and * Ex. 30.24 the anointing oyl and a bullock for the sin-offering and two rams and a basket of unleavened bread 3 And gather thou all the congregation together unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 4 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him and the assembly was gathered together unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 5 And Moses said unto the congregation * Exod. 29.4 This is the thing which the LORD commanded to be done 6 And Moses brought Aaron his sons washed them with water 7 And he put upon him the coat and girded him with the girdle and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod upon him and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod and bound it unto him therewith 8 And he put the breast-plate upon him also he * Exod. 28.30 put in the breast-plate the Urim and Thummim 9 And he put the mitre upon his head also upon the mitre even upon his forefront did he put the golden plate the holy crown as the LORD * Exod. 28.39 c. commanded Moses 10 And Moses took the anointing oyl and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein and sanctified them 11 And he sprinkled thereof upon the altar seven times and anointed the altar all his vessels both the laver his foot to sanctifie them 12 And he * Ps 133.2 Ecclus 45.15 poured of the anointing oyl upon Aarons head and anointed him to sanctifie him 13 And Moses brought Aarons sons and put coats upon them and girded them with girdles and †Heb. bound put bonnets upon them as the LORD commanded Moses 14 * Exod. 29.1 And he brought the bullock for the sin-offering and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin-offering 15 And he slew it and Moses took the bloud and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger and purified the altar and poured the bloud at the bottom of the altar and sanctified it to make reconciliation upon it 16 And he took all the fat that was upon the inwards and the caul above the liver and the two kidneys and their fat and Moses burned it upon the altar 17 But the bullock and his hide his flesh and his dung he burnt with fire without the camp as the LORD * Ex. 29.14 commanded Moses 18 ¶ And he brought the ram for the burnt-offering and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram 19 And he killed it and Moses sprinkled the bloud upon the altar round about 20 And he cut the ram into pieces and Moses burnt the head and the pieces and the fat 21 And he washed the inwards and the legs in water and Moses burnt the whole ram upon the altar it was a burnt-sacrifice for a sweet savour and an offering made by fire unto the LORD as the LORD commanded Moses 22 ¶ And * Ex. 29.31 he brought the other ram the ram of consecration and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram 23 And he slew it and Moses took of the bloud of it and put it upon the tip of Aarons right ear and upon the thumb of his right hand and upon the great toe of his right foot 24 And he brought Aarons sons and Moses put of the bloud upon the tip of their right ear and upon the thumbs of their right hands upon the great toes of their right feet and Moses sprinkled the bloud upon the altar round about 25 And he took the fat and the rump and all the fat that was upon the inwards and the caul above the liver and the two kidneys and their fat and the right shoulder 26 And out of the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD he took one unleavened cake and a cake of oyled bread and one wafer and put them on the fat and upon the right shoulder 27 And he put all * Ex. 27.24 c. upon Aarons hands and upon his sons hands and waved them for a wave-offering before the LORD 28 And Moses took them
the God of their fathers 33 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countreys that pertained to the children of Israel and made all that were present in Israel to serve even to serve the LORD their God And all his days they departed not †Heb. from after from following the LORD the God of their fathers CHAP. XXXV 1 Josiah keepeth a most solemn pass-over 20 He provoking Pharaoh-necho is slain at Megiddo 25 Lamentations for Josiah MOreover * 2 King 23.21 22. Josiah kept a pass-over unto the LORD in Jerusalem and they killed the pass-over on the * Ex. 12.6 fourteenth day of the first moneth 2 And he set the priests in their charges and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD 3 And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel which were holy unto the LORD Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders serve now the LORD your God and his people Israel 4 And prepare your selves by the * 1 Chr. 9.10 houses of your fathers after your courses according to the * 1 Chr. 23. and 24. and 25. and 2â— writing of David king of Israel and according to the * Chap. â— 14 writing of Solomon his son 5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of †Heb. the house of the fathers the families of the fathers of your brethren †Heb. the sons of the people the people and after the division of the families of the Levites 6 So kill the pass-over and sanctifie your selves and prepare your brethren that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses 7 And Josiah †Heb. â—ffered gave to the people of the flock lambs and kids all for the pass-over-offerings for all that were present to the number of thirty thousand and three thousand bullocks these were of the kings substance 8 And his princes †Heb. â—ffered gave willingly unto the people to the priests and to the Levites Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel rulers of the house of God gave unto the priests for the pass-over-offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattel and three hundred oxen 9 Conaniah also and Shemaiah and Nethaneel his brethren and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad chief of the Levites †Heb. â—ffered gave unto the Levites for pass over-offerings five thousand small cattel and five hundred oxen 10 So the service was prepared and the priests stood in their place and the Levites in their courses according to the kings commandment 11 And they killed the pass over and the priests sprinkled the bloud from their hands and the Levites * See chap. 29.34 fleyed them 12 And they removed the burnt offerings that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people to offer unto the LORD as it is written in the book of Moses and so did they with the oxen 13 And they * Exod. 12.8 9. rosted the pass-over with fire according to the ordinance but the other holy offerings sod they in pots and in caldrons and in pans and †Heb. made them run divided them speedily among all the people 14 And afterward they made ready for themselves and for the priests because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night therefore the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests the sons of Aaron 15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their †Heb. station place according to the * 1 Chr. 25.1 c. commandment of David and Asaph and Hâ—man and Jeduthun the kings seer and the porters * 1 Chr. 9.17.18 and 26.14 c. waited at every gate they might not depart from their service for their brethren the Levites prepared for them 16 So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day to keep the pass-over and to offer burnt-offerings upon the altar of the LORD according to the commandment of king Josiah 17 And the children of Israel that wâ—re †Heb. found present kept the pass-over at that time and the feast of unleavened bread seven days 18 And there was no pass-over like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a pass-over as Josiah kept and the priests and the Levites and all Judah and Israel that were present and the inhabitants of Jerusalem 19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this pass-over kept 20 ¶ * 2 Kin. 23.29 After all this when Josiah had prepared the †Heb. house temple Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish by Euphrates and Josiah went out against him 21 But he sent embassadours to him saying What have I to do with thee thou king of Judah I come not against thee this day but against †Heb. the house of my war the house wherewith I have war for God commanded me to make haste forbear thee from medling with God who is with me that he destroy thee not 22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him but disguised himself that he might fight with him and hearkned not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo 23 And the archers shot at king Josiah and the king said to his servants Have me away for I am sore †Heb. made sick wounded 24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had and they brought him to Jerusalem and he died and was buried ‖ Or among the the sepulchres in one of the sepulchres of his fathers and * Zech. 12.11 all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah 25 ¶ And Jeremiah lamented for tabernacle which is called the holiest of all 4 Which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold wherein was * Ex. 16.34 the golden pot that had manna and * Num. 17.16 Aâ—rons rod that budded and * Deut. 10.5 1 King 8.9 〈◊〉 Chr. 5.10 the tables of the covenant 5 And * Ex. 25.22 over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy-seat of which we cannot now speak particularly 6 Now when these things were thus ordained the priests went always into the first tabernacle accomplishing the service of God 7 But into the second went the high priest alone * Ex. 30.10 â—ev 16. 〈◊〉 once every year not without bloud which he offered for himself and for the errours of the people 8 The holy Ghost this signifying that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest while as the first tabernacle was yet standing 9 Which was a sigure for the time then present in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience 10 Which stood onely in meats and drinks and divers washings and carnal ‖ Or vitor ceremonies ordinances imposed on them until the time of reformation 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands that is to say not of this building 12 Neither by the bloud of goats and calves but by his own bloud he entred in once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption fâ—r us 13 For it * Lev. 1â— 14 the bloud of bulls and of goats and * 1 Num. 19.17 c. the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh 14 How much more shall the bloud of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without ‖ Or fault spot to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God 15 And for this cause he is the Mediatour of the new testament that by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance 16 For where a testament is there must also of necessity ‖ Or be brought in be the death of the testatour 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead otherwise it is of no strength at all whilest the testatour liveth 18 Whereupon neither the first testament was ‖ Or purified dedicated without bloud 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law he took the bloud of calves and of goats with water and ‖ Or purple scarlet wooll and hyssop and sprinkled both the book and all the people 20 Saying * Eâ— 24.8 This is the bloud of the testament which God hath enjoyned unto you 21 Moreover he sprinkled likewise with bloud both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministery 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with bloud and without shedding of bloud is no remission 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices then these 24 For Christ is not entred into the holy places made with hands which are the figures of the true but into heaven it self now * 1 Joh. 2.1 to appear in the presence of God for us 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often as the high priest entreth into the holy place every year with bloud of others 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgement 28 So * 1 Pet. 3.18 Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation CHAP. X. 1 The weakness of the law-sacrifices 10 The sacrifice of Christs body once offered 14 for ever hath taken away sins 19 An exhortation to hold fast the faith with patience and thanksgiving FOr the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year 4 For it is not possible that the bloud of bulls and of goats should take away sins 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world he saith * Psal 10.6 c. Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not but a body ‖ Or thou â—â—st fitted me hast thou prepared me 6 In burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure 7 Then said I Lo I come In the volume of the book it is written of me to do thy will O God 8 Above when he said Sacrifice and offering and barnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not neither hadst pleasure therein which are offered by the law 9 Then said he Lo I come to do thy will O God He taketh away the first that he may establish the second 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all 11 And every priest standeth daily ministring and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices which can never take away sins 12 But this man after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever sat down on the right hand of God 13 From henceforth expecting * Psal 11â— 1. 1 Cor. 15.25 Chap. 1.13 till his enemies be made his footstool 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified 15 Whereof the holy Ghost also is a witness to us for after that he had said before 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days saith the Lord I will * Jer. 31.33 put my laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more 18 Now where remission of these is there is no more offering for sin 19 Having therefore brethren ‖ Or liberty boldness to enter into the holiest by the bloud of Jesus 20 By a new and living way which he hath ‖ Or new mâ—dâ— consecrated for us through the vail that is to say his flesh 21 And having an high priest over the house of God 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and

VII 1 Moses is encouraged to go to Pharaoh 7 His aâ—e 8 His rod is turned into a serpent 11 The sorcerers do the like 13 Pharaohs heart is hardned 14 Gods massage to Pharaoh 19 the river is turned into bloud ANd the LORD said unto Moses See I have made thee a god to Pharaoh and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet 2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh that he send the children of Israel out of his land 3 And I will harden Pharaohs heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt 4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you that I may lay my hand upon Egypt and bring forth mine armies and my people the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by great judgements 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD when I stretch forth mine hand upâ—â— Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them 6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them so did they 7 And Moses was fourscore years old and Aaron fourscore and three years old when they spake unto Pharaoh 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you saying Shew a miracle for you then thou shalt say unto Aaron Take thy rod and caâ—t it before Pharaoh and it shall become a serpent 10 ¶ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh and they did so as the LORD had commanded and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wifemen and the sorcerers now the magicians of Egypt they also did in like manner with their inchantments 12 For they cast down every man his rod and they became serpents but Aarons rod twallowed up their rods 13 And he hardned Pharaohs heart that he hearkned not unto them as the LORD had said 14 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Pharaohs heart is hardned he refuseth to let the people go 15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning 〈◊〉 he goeth out unto the water and thou shalt stand by the rivers brink against he come and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take into thine hand 16 And thou shalt say unto him The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee saying Let my people go that they may serve me in the wilderness and behold hitherto thou wouldest not hear 17 Thus saith the LORD In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD behold I will smite with the â—od that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river and they shall be turned to bloud 18 And the fish that is in the river shall die and the river shall stink and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river 19 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses Say unto Aaron Take thy rod and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt upon their streams upon their rivers and upon their ponds and upon all their †Heb gathering of their waters pools of water that they may become bloud and that there may be bloud throughout all the land of Egypt both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone 20 And Moses and Aaron did so as the LORD commanded and he * Ch. 17.5 lift up the rod and smote the waters that were in the river in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants and all the * Ps 78.44 waters that were in the river were turned into bloud 21 And the fish that was in the river died and the river stunk and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river and there was bloud throughout all the land of Egypt 22 * Wisd 17.7 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their inchantments and Pharaohs heart was hardned

XXIV 1 Moses is called up into the mountain 3 The people promise obedience 4 Moses buildeth an altar and twelve pillars 6 He sprinkleth the bloud of the Covenant 9 The glory of God appeareth 14 Aaron and Hur have the charge of the people 15 Moses goeth into the mountain where he continueth fourty days and fourty nights ANd he said unto Moses Come up unto the LORD thou and Aaron Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel and worship ye afar off 2 And Moses alone shall come near the LORD but they shall not come nigh neither shall the people go up with him 3 ¶ And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the judgements and all the people answered with one voice and said * Ch. 19.8 Vers 7. Deu. 5.27 All the words which the LORD hath said will we do 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD and rose up early in the morning and builded an altar under the hill and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel 5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel it offered burnt-offerings and sacrificed peace-offerings of oxen unto the LORD 6 And Moses took half of the bloud and put it in basons and half of the bloud he sprinkled on the altar 7 And he took the book of the covenant and read in the audience of the people and they said * Vers 3. All that the LORD hath said will we do and be obedient 8 And Moses took the bloud and sprinkled it on the people and said Behold * 1 Pet. 1.2 Hebr. 9.20 the bloud of the covenant which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words 9 ¶ Then went up Moses and Aaron Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel 10 And they saw the God of Israel and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness 11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand also they saw God and did eat and drink 12 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Come up to me into the mount and be there and I will give thee tables of stone and a law commandments which I have written that thou mayest teach them 13 And Moses rose up and his minister Joshua and Moses went up into the mount of God 14 And he said unto the elders Tarry ye here for us until we come again unto you and behold Aaron and Hur are with you if any man have any matters to do let him come unto them 15 And Moses went up into the mount a cloud covered the mount 16 And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai and the cloud covered it six days and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud 17 And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel 18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud and gat him up into the mount and * Ch. 34 2â— Deut. 9.9 Moses was in the mount fourty days and fourty nights CHAP. XXV 1 What the Israelites must offer for the making of the tabernacle 10 The form of the ark 17 The mercy-seat with the cherubims 23 The table with the furniture thereof 31 The candlestick with the instruments thereof ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel that they †Heb. take for ox bring me an ‖ Or heave-offering offering * Ch. 35. â— of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering 3 And this is the offering which ye shall take of them gold and silver and brass 4 And blue and purple and scarlet and ‖ Or silk fine linen goats hair 5 And rams skins died red and badgers skins and shittim-wood 6 Oyl for the light spices for anointing oyl and for sweet incense 7 Onyx-stones and stones to be set in the * Ch. 28.4 ephod and in the * Ch. 28.15 breast-plate 8 And let them make me a sanctuary that I may dwell amongst them 9 According to all that I shew thee after the pattern of the tabernacle the pattern of all the instrument thereof even so shall ye make it 10 ¶ * Ch. 37.1 And they shall make an ark of shittim-wood two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof and a cubit and a half the height thereof 11 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold within and without shalt thou overlay it shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about 12 And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it and put them in the four corners thereof and two rings shall be in the one side of it and two rings in the other side of it 13 And thou shalt make staves of shittim-wood and overlay them with gold 14 And thou shalt put the staâ—es into the rings by the sides of the ark that the ark may be born with them 15 The staves shall be in the rings of the ark they shall not be taken from it 16 And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee 17 And thou shalt make a mercy-seat of pure gold two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof a cubit and a half the breadth thereof 18 And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold of beaten work shalt thou make them in the two ends of the mercy seat 19 And make one cherub on the one end and the other cherub on the other end even ‖ Or of the matter of the mercy-seat of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof 20 And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high covering the mercy-seat

take of the bloud of the bullock and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger and pour all the bloud beside the bottom of the altar 13 And * Lev. 3. â— thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards and ‖ It seemeth by anatomy and the Hebrew doctours to be the midriff the caul that is above the liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them and burn them upon the altar 14 But the flesh of the bullock and his skin and his dung shalt thou burn with fire without the camp it is a sin-offering 15 ¶ Thou shalt also take one ram and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram 16 And thou shalt slay the ram and thou shalt take his bloud and sprinkle it round about upon the altar 17 And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces and wash the inwards of him and his legs and put them unto his pieces and ‖ Or upon unto his head 18 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar it is a burnt offering unto the LORD it is a sweet savour an offering made by fire unto the LORD 19 ¶ And thou shalt take the other ram and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram 20 Then shalt thou kill the ram and take of his bloud and put it upon the up of the right ear of Aaron and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons and upon the thumb of their right hand and upon the great toe of their right foot and sprinkle the bloud upon the altar round about 21 And thou shalt take of the bloud that is upon the altar and of the anointing oyl and sprinkle it upon Aaron and upon his garments and upon his sons and upon the garments of his sons with him and he shall be hallowed and his garments and his sons and his sons garments with him 22 Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the rump and the fat that covereth the inwards and the caul above the liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them and the right shoulder for it is a ram of consecration 23 And one loaf of bread and one cake of oyled bread and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before the LORD 24 And thou shalt put all in the hands of Aaron and in the hands of his sons shalt †Heb. shake to and fro wave them for a wave-offering before the LORD 25 And thou shalt receive them of their hands and burn them upon the altar for a burnt-offering for a sweet savour before the LORD it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD 26 And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of Aarons consecrations and wave it for a wave-offering before the LORD and it shall be thy part 27 And thou shalt sanctifie the breast of the wave-offering and the shoulder of the heave-offering which is waved and which is heaved up of the ram of the consecration even of that which is for Aaron and of that which is for his sons 28 And it shall be Aarons and his sons by a statute for ever from the children of Israel for it is an heave-offering and it shall be an heave-offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace-offerings even their heave-offering unto the LORD 29 ¶ And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons after him to be anointed therein and to be consecrated in them 30 And †Heb. he of his sons that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congregation to minister in the holy place 31 ¶ And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration and seethe his flesh in the holy place 32 And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the * Lev. â— 31 Mat. 12.4 bread that is in the basket by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 33 And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made to consecrate and to sanctifie them but a stranger shall not eat thereof because they are holy 34 And if ought of the flesh of the consecrations or of the bread remain unto the morning then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire it shall not be eaten because it is holy 35 And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron and to his sons according to all things which I have commanded thee seven days shalt thou consecrate them 36 And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin-offering for atonement and thou shalt cleanse the altar when thou hast made an atonement for it and thou shalt anoint it to sanctifie it 37 Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar and sanctifie it and it shall be an altar most holy whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy 38 ¶ Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar * Num. 2â— 3 two lambs of the first year day by day continually 39 The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even 40 And with the one lamb a tenth-deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oyl and the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink-offering 41 And the other lamb thou shalt offer at even and shalt do thereto according to the meat-offering of the morning and according to the drink-offering thereof for a sweet savour an offering made by fire unto the
LORD 42 This shall be a continual burnt-offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD where I will meet you to speak there unto thee 43 And there I will meet with the children of Israel and ‖ Or Israel the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory 44 And I will sanctifie the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar I will sanctifie also both Aaron and his sons to minister to me in the priests office 45 ¶ * Levit. 26.12 2 Cor. 6.16 And I will dwell amongst the children of Israel and will be their God 46 And they shall know that I am the LORD their God that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt that I may dwell amongst them I am the LORD their God CHAP. XXX 1 The altar of incense 11 The ransom of souls 17 The brasen laver 22 The holy anointing oyl 34 The composition of the perfume ANd thou shalt make an altar to burn Incense upon of shittim-wood shalt thou make it 2 A cubit shall be the length thereof and a cubit the breadth thereof four-square shall it be and two cubits shall be the height thereof the horns thereof shall be of the same 3 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold the †Heb. roof top thereof and the †Heb. walls sides thereof round about and the horns thereof and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about 4 And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it by the two †Heb. ribs corners thereof upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withall 5 And thou shalt make the staves of shittim-wood and overlay them with gold 6 And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony before the mercy-seat that is over the testimony where I will meet with thee 7 And Aaron shall burn thereon †Heb. incense of spices sweet incense every morning when he dresseth the lamps he shall burn incense upon it 8 And when Aaron ‖ Or setteth up †Heb. causeth to ascend lighteth the lamps †Heb. between the two evens at even he shall burn incense upon it a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations 9 Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon nor burnt-sacrifice nor meat offering neither shall ye pour drink-offering thereon 10 And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin-offering of atonements once in the year shall he maâ—â— atonement upon it throughout your generations it is most holy unto the LORD 11 And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 12 * Num. 1.1.2 5. When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after †Heb. them that are to be numbred their number then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD when thou numbrest them that there be no plague amongst them when thou numbrest them 13 This they shall give every one that passeth among them that are numbred half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary * Lev. 27.25 Numb 3.47 Ezek. 45.12 A shekel is twenty gerahs an hall-shekel shall be the offering of the LORD 14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbred from twenty years old and above shall give an offering unto the LORD 15 The rich shall not †Heb. multiply give more and the poor shall not †Heb. diminish give less then hall a shekel when they give an offering unto the LORD to make an atonement for your souls 16 And thou shalt take the atonement-money of the children of Israel and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD to make an atonement for your souls 17 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 18 Thou shalt also make a laver of brass and his foot also of brass to wash withal and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar and thou shalt put water therein 19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands their feet thereat 20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation they shall wash with water that they die not or when they come near to the altar to minister to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD 21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet that they die not and it shall be a statute for eâ—er to them even to him and to his seed throughout their generations 22 ¶ Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses saying 23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices of pure myrrh five hundred shekels and of sweet cinnamon half so much even two hundred and fifty shekels and of sweet calamus two hundred fifty shekels 24 And of cassia five hundred shekels after the shekel of the sanctuary and of oyl-olive an * Chap. â— 29.40 hin 25 And thou shalt make it an oyl of holy ointment an ointment compound after the art of the ‖ Or perfumer apothecary it shall be an holy anointing oyl 26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith and the ark of the testimony 27 And the table and all his vessels and the candlestick and his vessels and the altar of incense 28 And the altar of burnt-offering with all his vessels and the laver and his foot 29 And thou shalt sanctifie them that they may be most holy whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy 30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them that they may minister unto me in the priests office 31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel saying This shall be an holy anointing oyl unto me throughout your generations 32 Upon mans flesh shall it not be poured neither shall ye make any other like it after the composition of it it is holy and it shall be holy unto you 33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger shall even be cut off from his people 34 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Take unto thee sweet spices stacte and onycha and galbanum these sweet spices with pure frankincense of each shall there be a like weight 35 And thou shalt make it a perfume a confection after the art of the apothecary †Heb. sâ—ited tempered together pure and holy 36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation where I will meet with thee it shall be unto you most holy 37 And as for the perfume which thou shalt make you shall not make to your selves according to the composition thereof it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD 38 Whosoever shall make like unto
hanging of the door to the tabernacle 6 And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt-offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation 7 And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar and shalt put water therein 8 And thou shalt set up the court round about and hang up the hanging at the court-gate 9 And thou shalt take the anointing oyl and anoint the tabernacle and all that is therein and shalt hallow it and all the vessels thereof and it shall be holy 10 And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt-offering and all his vessels and sanctifie the altar and it shall be an altar †Heb. holiness of holinesses most holy 11 And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot and sanctifie it 12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and wash them with water 13 And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments and anoint him sanctifie him that he may minister unto me in the priests office 14 And thou shalt bring his sons and clothe them with coats 15 And thou shalt anoint them as thou didst anoint their father that they may minister unto me in the priests office for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priest-hood throughout their generations 16 Thus did Moses according to all that the LORD commanded him so did he 17 ¶ And it came to pass in the first moneth in the second year on the first day of the moneth that the * Num. 7. â—â— tabernacle was reared up 18 And Moses reared up the tabernacle and fastned his sockets and set up the boards thereof and put in the bars thereof and reared up his pillars 19 And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent above upon it as the LORD commanded Moses 20 ¶ And he took and put the testimony into the ark and set the staves on the ark and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark 21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle and * Ch. 35. â—â— set up the vail of the covering and covered the ark of the testimony as the LORD commanded Moses 22 ¶ And he put the table in the tent of the congregation upon the side of the tabernacle north-ward without the vail 23 And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD as the LORD had commanded Moses 24 ¶ And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation over against the table on the side of the tabernacle south-ward 25 And he lighted the lamps before the LORD as the LORD commanded Moses 26 ¶ And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail 27 And he burnt sweet incense thereon as the LORD commanded Moses 28 ¶ And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle 29 And he put the altar of burnt-offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation and offered upon it the burnt-offering and the meat-offering as the * Ch. 30. â—â— LORD commanded Moses 30 ¶ And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar and put water there to wash withal 31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat 32 When they went into the tent of the congregation when they came near unto the altar they washed as the LORD commanded Moses 33 And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar and set up the hanging of the court-gate so Moses finished the work 34 ¶ * Numb 9.15 1 King 8.10 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle 35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation because the cloud abode thereon and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle 36 And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle the children of Israel †Heb. journeyed went onward in all their journeys 37 But if the cloud were not taken up then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up 38 For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day and fire was on it by night in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys The third book of Moses called LEVITICUS CHAP. I. 1 The burnt-offerings 3 of the herd 10 of the fâ—ocks 14 of the fowls ANd the LORD called unto Moses and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD ye shall bring your offering of the cattel even of the herd and of the flock 3 If his offering be a brunt-sacrifice of the herd let him offer a male without blemish he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD 4 * Eâ—od 19.10 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt-offering and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him 5 And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD and the priests Aarons sons shall bring the bloâ—d and sprinkle the bloud round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 6 And he shall flay the burnt-offering and cut it into his pieces 7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar and lay the wood in order upon the fire 8 And the priests Aarons sons shall lay the parts the head the fat in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar 9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water and the priest shall burn all on the altar to be a burnt-sacrifice an offering made by fire of a sweet favour unto the LORD 10 ¶ And if his offering be of the flocks namely of the sheep or of the goats for a burnt-sacrifice he shall bring it a male without blemish 11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar north-ward before the LORD and the priests Aarons sons shall sprinkle his bloud round â—â—out upon the altar 12 And he shall cut it into his pieces with his head and his fat and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar 13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water and the priests shall bring it all and burn it upon the altar it is a burnt-sacrifice an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 14 ¶ And if the burnt-sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls then he shall bring his offering of turtle-doves or of young pigeons 15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar and ‖ Or pinch of the
bead with the nail wring off his head and burn it on the altar and the bloud thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar 16 And he shall pluck away his crop with ‖ Or the filth thereof his feathers and cast it beside the altar on the east-part by the place of the ashes 17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof but shall not divide it asunder and the priest shall burn it upon the altar upon the wood that is upon the fire it is a burnt-sacrifice an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD CHAP. II. 1 The meat-offering of flour with oyl and incense 4 either baken in the oven 5 or on a plate 7 or in a frying-pan 12 or of the first-fruits in the ear 13 The salt of the meat-offering ANd when any will offer a meat-offering unto the LORD his offering shall be of fine flour and he shall pour oyl upon it and put frankincense thereon 2 And he shall bring it to Aarons sons the priests and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof and of the oyl thereof with all the frankincense thereof and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar to be an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 3 And * Ecclus 7.31 the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aarons and his sons it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire 4 ¶ And if thou bring an oblation of a meat-offering baken in the oven it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oyl or unleavened waters anointed with oyl 5 ¶ And if thy oblation be a meat-offering baken ‖ Or on a flat plate or slite in a pan it shall be of fine flour unleavened mingled with oyl 6 Thou shalt part it in pieces pour oyl thereon it is a meat-offering 7 ¶ And if thy oblation be a meat-offering baken in the frying-pan it shall be made of fine flour with oyl 8 And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD and when it is presented unto the priest he shall bring it unto the altar 9 And the priest shall take from the meat-offering * Pet. 2. a memorial thereof and shall burn it upon the altar it is an * Exod. 29.18 offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 10 And that which is lest of the meat-offering shall be Aarons and his sons it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire 11 No meat-offering which ye shall bring unto the LORD shall be made with leaven for ye shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering of the LORD made by fire 12 ¶ As for the oblation of the first-fruits ye shall offer them unto the LORD but they shall not †Heb. astend be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour 13 And every oblation of thy meat-offering * Mar. 9. â—â— shalt thou season with salt neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat-offering with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt 14 And if thou offer a meat-offering of thy first-fruits unto the LORD thou shalt offer for the meat-offering of thy first-fruits green ears of corn dried by the fire even corn beaten out of full ears 15 And thou shalt put oyl upon it and lay frankincense thereon it is a meat-offering 16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it part of the beaten corn thereof and part of the oyl thereof with all the frankincense thereof it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD CHAP. III. 1 The peace-offering of the herd 6 of the flock 7 either a lamb 12 or a goat ANd if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace-offering if he offer it of the herd whether it be a male or female he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD 2 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and Aarons sons the priests shall sprinkle the bloud upon the altar round about 3 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace-offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD * Exod. 29.21 the ‖ Or suâ—t fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 4 And the two kidneys and the fat that is on them which is by the flanks and the ‖ Or midriff over the liver and over the kidneys caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 5 And Aarons sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt-sacrifice which is upon the wood that is on the fire it is an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 6 ¶ And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace-offering unto the LORD be of the flock male or female he shall offer it without blemish 7 If he offer a lamb for his offering then shall he offer it before the LORD 8 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation and Aarons sons shall sprinkle the bloud thereof round about upon the altar 9 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace-offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD the fat thereof and the whole rump it shall be take off hard by the back-bone and the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 10 And the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them which is by the flanks and the caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall be take away 11 And the priest shall burn it upon the altar it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD 12 ¶ And if his offering be a goat then he shall offer it before the LORD 13 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle the bloud thereof upon the altar round about 14 And he shall offer thereof his offering even an offering made by fire unto the LORD the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 15 And the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them which is by the flanks and the caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour * Ch. 7.25 All the fat is the LORDS 17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings that ye eat neither fat nor * Gen. 9.4 Chap. 7.25 17.14 bloud CHAP. IV. 1 The sin-offering of ignorance 3 for the priest 13 for the
whole house of Israel bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled 7 And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation lest you die for the anointing oyl of the LORD is upon you And they did according to the word of Moses 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Aaron saying 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink thou nor thy sons with thee when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation lest ye die It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations 10 And that ye may put difference between hoâ—y and unholy and between unclean and clean 11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses 12 ¶ And Moses spake unto Aaron and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamâ—r his sons that were left Take the meat-offering that remaineth of the offerings of the LORD made by fire and eat it without leaven beside the altar for it is most holy 13 And ye shall eat it in the holy place because it is thy due and thy sonâ— due of the sacrifices of the LORD made by fire for so I am commandâ—d 14 And * Exod. â—9 24 the wave-breast and heave-shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place thou and thy sons and thy daughters with thee for they be thy due and thy sons due which are given out of the sacrifices of peace-offerings of the children of Israel 15 The heave-shoulder and the wave-breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat to wave it for a wave-offering before the LORD and it shall be thine and thy sons with thee by a statute for ever as the LORD hath commanded 16 ¶ And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering and behold it was burnt and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron which were left alive saying 17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place seeing it is most holy and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation to make atonement for them before the LORD 18 Behold the bloud of it was not brought in within the holy place ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place * Chap. 6.26 as I commanded 19 And Aaron said unto Moses Behold this day have they offered their sin-offering and their burnt-offering before the LORD and such things have befallen me and if I had eaten the sin-offering to day should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD 20 And when Moses heard that he was content CHAP. XI 1 What beasts may 4 and what may not be eaten 9 What fishes 13 What fowls 29 The creeping things which are unclean ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron saying unto them 2 Speak unto the children of Israel saying * Deu. 14.4 Act. 10 1â— These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth 3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof and is cloven-footed and cheweth the cud among the beasts that shall ye eat 4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud or of them that divide the hoof as the camel because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean to you 5 And the coney because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean unto you 6 And the hare because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean unto you 7 And * 2 Maâ— 6.18 the swine though he divide the hoof and be cloven-footed yet he cheweth not the cud he is unclean to you 8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat and their carcase shall ye not touch they are unclean to you 9 ¶ These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters whatsoever hath fins scales in the waters in the seas in the rivers them shall ye eat 10 And all that have not fins nor scales in the seas and in the rivers of all that move in the waters and of any living thing which is in the waters they shall be an abomination unto you 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you ye shall not eat of their flesh but you shall have their carcases in abomination 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters that shall be an abomination unto you 13 ¶ And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls they shall not be eaten they are an abomination the eagle and the ossifrage and the ospray 14 And the vulture and the kite after his kinde 15 Every raven after his kinde 16 And the owl and the night-hauk and the cuckow and the hauk after his kinde 17 And the little owl and the cormorant and the great owl 18 And the swan and the pelican and the gier-eagle 19 And the stork and the heron after her kinde and the lapwing and the bat 20 All fowls that creep going upon all four shall be an abomination unto you 21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four which have legs above their feet to leap withal upon the earth 22 Even these of them ye may eat the locust after his kinde and the bald locust after his kinde and the beetle after his kinde and the grashopper after his kinde 23 But all other flying creeping things which have four feet shall be an abomination unto you 24 And for these ye shall be unclean whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even 25 And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even 26 The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof and is not cloven-footed nor cheweth the cud are unclean unto you every one that toucheth them shall be unclean 27 And whatsoever goeth upon his paws among all manner of beasts that go on all four those are unclean unto you whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even 28 And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even they are unclean unto you 29 ¶ These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth the weasel and the mouse and the tortoise after his kinde 30 And the ferret and the chameleon and the lyzard and the snail and the mole 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep whosoever doth touch them when they be dead shall be unclean until the even 32 And upon whatsoever any of them when they are dead doth fall it shall be unclean whether it be any vessel of wood or raiment or skin or sack whatsoever vessel it be wherein any work is done it must be put into water and it shall be unclean until the even so it shall be cleansed 33 And every earthen vessel whereinto any of them falleth whatsoever is in it shall
in water and be unclean until the even 17 And every garment and every skin whereon is the seed of copulation shall be washed with water and be unclean until the even 18 The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation they shall both bathe themselves in water and be unclean until the even 19 ¶ And if a woman have an issue and her issue in her flesh be bloud she shall be †Heb. in her separation put apart seven days and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even 20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean 21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the even 22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the even 23 And if it be on her bed or on any thing whereon she sitteth when he toucheth it he shall be unclean until the even 24 And if any man lie with her at all and her flowers be upon him he shall be unclean seven days and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean 25 And if a woman have an issue of her bloud many days out of the time of her separation or if it run beyond the time of her separation all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation she shall be unclean 26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean as the uncleanness of her separation 27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean and shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water be unclean until the even 28 But if she be cleansed of her issue then she shall number to her self seven days and after that she shall be clean 29 And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles or two young pigeons and bring them unto the priest to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 30 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin-offering and the other for a burnt-offering and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness 31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness that they die not in their uncleanness when they defile my tabernacle that is among them 32 This is the law of him that hath an issue and of him whose seed goeth from him and is defiled therewith 33 And of her that is sick of her flowers and of him that hath an issue of the man and of the woman and of him that lieth with her which is unclean CHAP. XVI 1 How the high priest must enter into the hâ—ly place 11 The sin-offering for himself 15 The sin-offering for the people 20 The scape-goat 29 The yearly feast of the expâ—ations ANd the LORD spake unto Moses after * Chap. 10.2 the death of the two sons of Aaron when they offered before the LORD and died 2 And the LORD said unto Moses Speak unto Aaron thy brother that he * Ex. 30.10 Hebr. 9.7 come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy-seat which is upon the ark that he die not for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy-seat 3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place with a young bullock for a sin-offering and a ram for a burnt-offering 4 He shall put on the holy linen coat and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh and shall be girded with the linen girdle and with the linen mitre shall he be attired these are holy garments therefore shall he wash his flesh in water and so put them on 5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt-offering 6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin-offering which is for himself and * Hebr. 9.7 make an atonement for himself and for his house 7 And he shall take the two goats and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the †Heb. Azazâ—l scape-goat 9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORDS lot †Heb. went up fell and offer him for a sin-offering 10 But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scape-goat shall be presented alive before the LORD to make an atonement with him and to let him go for a scape-goat into the wilderness 11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself and shall make an atonement for himself and for his house and shall kill the bullock of the sin-offering which is for himself 12 And he shall take a censer-full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small and bring it within the vail 13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy-seat that is upon the testimony that he die not 14 And * Hebr. â— 13 10.4 he shall take of the bloud of the bullock and * Cha. 4. â— sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat east-ward and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle of the bloud with his finger seven times 15 ¶ Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring his bloud within the vail and do with that bloud as he did with the bloud of the bullock and sprinkle it upon the mercy-seat and before the mercy seat 16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel and because of their transgressions in all their sins and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation that †Heb. dwelleth remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness 17 * Luk. 1 1â— And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place until he come out and have made an atonement for himself and for his houshold and for all the congregation of Israel 18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD and make an atonement for it and shall take of the bloud of the bullock of the bloud of the goat put it upon the horns of the altar round about 19 And he shall sprinkle of the bloud upon it with his finger seven times and cleanse it and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel
20 ¶ And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place the tabernacle of the congregation the altar he shall bring the live goat 21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel and all their transgressions in all their sins putting them upon the head of the goat and shall send him away by the hand of †Heb. a man of opportunity a fit man into the wilderness 22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land †Heb. of separation not inhabited and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness 23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation and shall put off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the holy place and shall leave them there 24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place and put on his garments and come forth and offer his burnt-offering and the burnt-offering of the people and make an atonement for himself and for the people 25 And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar 26 And he that let go the goat for the scape-goat shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water and afterward come into the camp 27 * Cha. â— 20 Heb. 13 1â— And the bullock for the sin-offering and the goat for the sin-offering whose bloud was brought in to make atonement in the holy place shall one carry forth without the camp and they shall burn in the fire their skins and their flesh and their dung 28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water and afterward he shall come into the camp 29 ¶ And this shall be a statute for ever unto you that in the seventh moneth on the tenth day of the moneth ye shall afflict your souls and do no work at all whether it be one of your own countrey of a stranger that sojourneth among you 30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement foâ— you to cleanse you that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD 31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you and ye shall afflict your souls by a statute for ever 32 And the priest whom he shall anoint and whom he shall †Heb. till his hand consecrate to minister in the priests office in his fathers stead shall make the atonement and shall put on the linen clothes even the holy garments 33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary and â—e shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation and for the altar and he shall make an atonement for the priests and for all the people of the congregation 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins * Exod. 30.10 Hebr. â— 7 once a year And he did as the LORD commanded Moses CHAP. XVII 1 The bloud of all slain beasts must be offered to the Lord at the door of the tabernacle 7 They must not offer to devils 10 All eating of bloud is forbidden 15 and all that dâ—th alone or is torn ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons and unto all the children of Israel and say unto them This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded saying 3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel that killeth an ox or lamb or goat in the camp or that killeth it out of the camp 4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD bloud shall be imputed unto that man he hath shed bloud and that man shall be cut off from among his people 5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices which they offer in the open field even that they may brâ—ng them unto the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation unto the priest and ofter them for peace-offerings unto the LORD 6 And the priest shall sprinkle the bloud upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and burn the sat for a * Exod. 20.18 Chap. 4.31 sweet savour unto the LORD 7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils after whom they have gone a whoring This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generaâ—ions 8 ¶ And thou shalt say unto them whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel or of the strangers which sojourn among you that offereth a burnt-offering or sacrifice 9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer it unto the LORD even that man shall be cut off from among his people 10 ¶ And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you that eateth any manner of bloud I will even set my face against that soul that eateth bloud and will cut him off from among his people 11 For the life of the flesh is in the bloud and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls for it is the bloud that maketh an atonement for the soul 12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel No soul of you shall eat bloud neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat bloud 13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you †Heb. that hunteth any hunting which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten he shall even pour out the bloud thereof and cover it with dust 14 * Gen. 9.4 For it is the life of all flesh the bloud of it is for the life thereof therefore I said unto the children of Israel Ye shall eat the bloud of no manner of flesh for the life of all flesh is the bloud thereof whosoever eateth it shall be cut off 15 And every soul that eateth †Heb. a carcase that which died of it self or that which was torn with beasts whether it be one of your own countrey or a stranger he shall both wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the even then shall he be clean 16 But if he wash them not nor bathe his flesh then he shall bear his iniquity CHAP. XVIII 1Vnlawful marriages 19Vnlawful lusts ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them I am the LORD your God 3 After the doings of the land of Egypt wherein ye dwelt shall ye not do and after the doings of the land of Canaan whither I bring you shall ye not do neither shall ye walk in their ordinances 4 Ye shall do my judgements and
shalt not sowe thy field with mingled seed neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee 20 ¶ And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman that is a bond-maid ‖ Or abused by any †Heb. reproached by or for man betrothed to an husband and not at all redeemed nor freedom given her ‖ Or they †Heb. there shall be a scourging she shall be scourged they shall not be put to death because she was not free 21 And he shall bring his trespass-offering unto the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation even a ram for a trespass-offering 22 And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him 23 ¶ And when ye shall come into the land and shall have planted all manner of trees for food then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you it shall not be eaten of 24 But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be †Heb. holiness of praises to the LORD holy to praise the LORD withal 25 And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof that it may yeeld unto you the increase thereof I am the LORD your God 26 ¶ Ye shall not eat any thing with the bloud neither shall ye use inchantment nor observe times 27 * Chap. 21.5 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard 28 Ye shall not * Deu. 14. â— make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor print any marks upon you I am the LORD 29 ¶ Do not †Heb. profane prostitute thy daughter to cause her to be a whore lest the land fall to whoredom and the land become full of wickedness 30 ¶ Ye shall keep my sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary I am the LORD 31 ¶ Regard not them that have familiar spirits neither seek after wizards to be defiled by them I am the LORD your God 32 ¶ Thou shalt rise up before the hoâ—ry head and honour the face of the old man and fear thy God I am the LORD 33 ¶ And * Exod. 22.21 if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land ye shall not ‖ Or oppress vex him 34 * Exod. 23.9 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born amongst you and thou shalt love him as thy self for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt I am the LORD your God 35 ¶ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgement in mete-yard in weight or in measure 36 * Prov. 11.1 16.11 20.10 Juâ—t balances just †Heb. stones weights a just ephah and a just hin shall ye have I am the LORD your God which brought you out of the land of Egypt 37 Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes and all my judgements and do them I am the LORD CHAP. XX. 1 Of him that giveth of his seed to Molech 4 Of him that favoureth such an one 6 Of going to wizards 7 Of sanctification 9 Of him that curseth his parents 10 Of adultery 11 14 17 19 Of incest 13 Of Sodomy 15 Of bestiality 18 Of uncleanness 22 Obedience is required with holiness 27 Wizards must be put to death ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 * Chap. 18.21 Again thou shalt say to the children of Israel Whosoever he be of the children of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel that giveth any of his seeâ— unto Molech he shall surely be put to death the people of the land shall stone him with stones 3 And I will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people because he hath given of his seed unto Molech to defile my sanctuary and to profane my holy name 4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man when he giveth of his seed unto Molech and kill him not 5 Then I will set my face against that man and against his family and will cut him off and all that go a whoring after him to commit whoredom with Molech from among their people 6 ¶ And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits and after wizards to go a whoring after them I will even set my face against that soul and will cut him off from among his people 7 ¶ * Chap. 11.44 19.2 1 Pet. 1.16 Sanctifie your selves therefore and be ye holy for I am the LORD your God 8 And ye shall keep my statutes and do them I am the LORD which sanctifie you 9 ¶ * Ex. 21.17 Prov. 20.20 Mat. 15.4 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death he hath cursed his father or his mother his bloud shall be upon him 10 ¶ And * Deut. 22.22 Joh. 8.4 5. the man that committeth adultery with another mans wife even be that committeth adultery with his neighbours wife the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death 11 * Chap. 18.8 And the man that lieth with his fathers wife hath uncovered his fathers nakedness both of them shall surely be put to death their bloud shall be upon them 12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law both of them shall surely be put to death they have wrought confusion their bloud shall be upon them 13 * Chap. 18.22 If a man also lie with mankinde as he lieth with a woman both of them have committed an abomination they shall surely be put to death their bloud shall be upon them 14 And if a man take a wife her mother it is wickedness they shall be burnt with fire both he and they that there be no wickedness among you 15 * Chap. 18.23 And if a man lie with a beast he shall surely be put to death and ye shall slay the beast 16 And if a woman approach unto any beast and lie down thereto thou shalt kill the woman and the beast they shall surely be put to death their bloud shall be upon them 17 * Chap. 18.9 And if a man shall take his sister his fathers daughter or his mothers daughter and see her nakedness and she see his nakedness it is a wicked thing and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people he hath uncovered his sisters nakedness he shall bear his iniquity 18 * Chap. 18 19. 10 How to use the cities that accept or refuse the proclamation of peace 16 What cities must be devoted 19 Trees of mans meat must not be destroyed in this siege WHen thou goest out to battel against thine enemies and seest horses and chariots and a people more then thou be not afraid of them for the LORD thy God is with thee which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt 2 And it shall be when ye are come nigh unto the battel that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people 3 And shall say unto them Hear O Israel you approach this day unto battel against your enemies let not your hearts †Heb. be tender faint fear not and do not †Heb. make haste tremble neither be ye terrified because of them 4 For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you to fight for you against your enemies to save you 5 ¶ And the officers shall speak unto the people saying What man is there that hath built a new house and hath not dedicated it let him go and return unto his house lest he die in the battel and another man dedicate it 6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard and hath not yet †Heb. made it common See Levit. 19.23 eaten of it let him also go and return unto his house lest he die in the battel and another man eat of it 7 * Chap. 24.5 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife and hath not taken her let him go and return unto his house lest he die in battel and another man take her 8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people and they shall say * Judg. 7.3 What man is there that is fearful and faint-hearted let him go and return unto his house lest his brethrens heart †Heb. melt faint as well as his heart 9 And it shall be when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies †Heb. to be in the head of the people to lead the people 10 ¶ When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it then proclaim peace unto it 11 And it shall be if it make thee answer of peace and open unto thee then it shall be that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee and they shall serve thee 12 And if it will make no peace with thee but will make war against thee then thou shalt besiege it 13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword 14 But the women and the little ones and * Josh 8.2 the cattel and all that is in the city even all the spoil thereof shalt thou †Heb. spoil take unto thy self and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies which the LORD thy God hath given thee 15 Thus shalt thou do unto the cities which are very far off from thee which are not of the cities of these nations 16 But of the cities of these people which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth 17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them namely the Hittites and the Amorites the Canaanites and the Perizzites the Hivites and the Jebusites as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee 18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations which they have done unto their gods so should ye sin against the the LORD your God 19 ¶ When thou shalt besiege a city a long time in making war against it to take it thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an ax against them for thou mayest eat of them and thou shalt not cut them down ‖ Or for O man the tree of the field is to be employed in the siege for the tree of the field is mans life †Heb. to go from before thee to employ them in the siege 20 Onely the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat thou shalt destroy and cut them down and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee until †Heb. it come down it be subdued CHAP. XXI 1 The expiation of an uncertain murder 10 The usage of a captive taken to wife 15 The first-born is not to be â—â—inherited upon private affection 18 A stubborn son is to be stoned to death 22 The maâ—â—factor must not hang all night on a tree IF one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it lying in the field it be not known who hath slain him 2 Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth and they shall measure unto the cities which are found about him that is slain 3 And it shall be that the city which is next unto the slain man even the elders of that city shall take an heifer which hath not been wrought with and which hath not drawn in the yoke 4 And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley which is neither eared nor sown and shall strike off the the heifers neck there in the valley 5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him and to bless in the name of the LORD and by their †Heb. mouth word shall every controversie and every stroke be tried 6 And all the elders of that city that are next unto the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley 7 And they shall answer and say Our hands have not shed this bloud neither have our eyes seen it 8 Be merciful O LORD unto thy people Israel whom thou hast redeemed and lay not innocent bloud †Heb. in the midst unto thy people of Israels charge And the bloud shall be forgiven them 9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent bloud from among you when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD 10 ¶ When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands and thou hast taken them captive 11 And seed among the captives a beautiful woman and hast a desire unto her that thou wouldest have her to thy wife 12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house and she shall shave her head and ‖ Or suffer to gâ—â—n †Heb. make or dress pare her nails 13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her and shâ—â—â— remain in thine house and bewail her father and her mother a full moneth and after that thou shalt go in unto her and be her husband and she shall be thy wise 14 And it shall be if thou have no delight in her then thou shalt let her

XXXIII 1 The majesty of God 6 The blessings of the twelve tribes 26 The excellency of Israel ANd this is the blessing wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death 2 And he said the LORD came from Sinai and rose up from Seir unto them he shined forth from mount Paran and he came with ten thousands of saints from his right hand went †Heb a fire of law a fiery law for them 3 Yea he loved the people all his saints are in thy hand and they sat down at thy feet every one shall receive of thy words 4 Moses commanded us a law even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob. 5 And he was king in Jeshurun when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together 6 ¶ Let Reuben live and not die and let not his men be few 7 ¶ And this is the blessing of Judah and he said Hear LORD the voice of Judah and bring him unto his people let his hands be sufficient for him and be thou an help to him from his enemies 8 ¶ And of Levi he said * Exod. 28.30 Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah 9 Who said unto his father and to his mother I have not seen him neither did he acknowledge his brethren nor knew his own children for they have observed thy word and kept thy covenant 10 ‖ Or Let them teach c. They shall teach Jacob thy judgements and Israel thy law ‖ Or let them put incense they shall put incense †Heb. at thy nose before thee and whole burnt sacrifice upon thy altar 11 Bless LORD his substance and accept the work of his hands smite through the loyns of them that rise against him and of them that hate him that they rise not again 12 ¶ And of Benjamin he said The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him and the LORD shall cover him all the day long and he shall dwell between his shoulders 13 ¶ And of Joseph he said * Gen. 49.25 Blessed of the LORD be his land for the precious things of heaven for the dew and for the deep that coucheth beneath 14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun and for the precious things †Heb. thrust forth put forth by the †Heb. moons moon 15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains and for the precious things of the lasting hills 16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph and upon the top of the head of him that * Gen. 49.26 was separated from his brethren 17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock and his horns are like the horns of unicorns with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim and they are the thousands of Manasleh 18 ¶ And of Zebulun he said Rejoyce Zebulun in thy going out and Issachar in thy tents 19 They shall call the people unto the mountain there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas and of treasures hid in the sand 20 ¶ And of Gad he said Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad he dwelleth as a lion and teareth the arm with the crown of the head 21 And he provided the first part for himself because there in a portion of the law-giver was he
thou done And Saul said Because I saw that the people were scattered from me and that thou camest not within the days appointed and that the Philistines gathered themselves together to Michmash 12 Therefore said I the Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal and I have not †Heb. intreated the fate made supplication unto the LORD I forced my self therefore and offered a burnt-offering 13 And Samuel said to Saul Thou hast done foolishly thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God which he commanded thee for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee 15 And Samuel arose and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin and Saul numbred the people that were †Heb. found present with him about six hundred men 16 And Saul and Jonathan his son and the people that were present with them abode in Gibeah of Benjamin but the Philistines encamped in Michmash 17 ¶ And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah unto the land of Shual 18 And another company turned the way to Beth-horon and another company turned to the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness 19 ¶ Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel for the Philistines said Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears 20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines to sharpen every man his share and his coulter and his ax and his mattock 21 Yet they had †Heb. a file with mouths a file for the mattocks and for the coulters and for the forks and for the axes and †Heb. to set to sharpen the goads 22 So it came to pass in the day of battel that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found 23 And the ‖ Or standing camp garison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash CHAP. XIV 1 Jonathan unwitting to his father the priest or the people goeth and iniraculously smiteth the Philistines garison 15 A divine terrour maketh them beat themselves 17 Saul not staying the priests answer setteth on them 21 The captivated Hebrews and the bidden Israelites joyn against them 24 Sauls unadvised adjuration hindreth the victory 32 He restraineth the people from eating bloud 35 He buildeth an altar 36 Jonathan taken by lot is saved by the people 47 Sauls strength and family NOw ‖ Or there wâ—â— a day it came to pass upon a day that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour Come and let us go over to the Philistines garison that is on the other side but he told not his father 2 And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate-tree which is in Migron and the people that were with him were about six hundred men 3 And Ahiah the son of Ahitub * Chap. 4.21 I-chabods brother the son of Phinehas the son of Eli the LORDS priest in Shiloh wearing an ephod and the people knew not that Jonathan was gone 4 ¶ And between the passages by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines garison there was a sharp rock on the one side and a sharp rock on the other side and the name of the one was Bozez and the name of the other Seneh 5 The †Heb. tooth forefront of the one was situate north-ward over against Michmash and the other south-ward over against Gibeah 6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour Come and let us go over unto the garison of these uncircumcised it may be that the LORD will work for us for there is no restraint to the LORD * 2 Chr. 14.11 to save by many or by few 7 And his armour-bearer said unto him Do all that is in thine heart turn thee behold I am with thee according to thy heart 8 Then said Jonathan Behold we will pass over unto these men and we will discover our selves unto them 9 If they say thus unto us †Heb. â—ie still Tarry until we come to you then we will stand still in our place and will not go up unto them 10 But if they say thus Come up unto us then we will go up for * 1 Mac. 4.30 the LORD hath delivered them into our hand and this shall be a signe unto us 11 And both of them discovered themselves unto the garison of the Philistines and the Philistines said Behold the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves 12 And the men of the garison answered Jonathan and his armour-bearer and said Come up to us and we will shew you a thing And Jonathan said unto his armour-bearer Come up after me for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel 13 And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet and his armour-bearer after him and they fell before Jonathan and his armour-bearer slew after him 14 And that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armour-bearer made was about twenty men within as it were ‖ Or â—aâ—f a furrow of an 〈◊〉 of land an half-acre of land which a yoke of oxen might plow 15 And there was trembling in the host in the field and among all the people the garison and the spoilers they also trembled and the earth quaked so it was †Heb. a trembling of God a very great trembling 16 And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked and behold the multitude melted away and they went on beating down one another 17 Then said Saul unto the people that were with him Number now and see who is gone from us And when they had numbred behold Jonathan and his armour-bearer were not there 18 And Saul said unto Ahiah Bring hither the ark of God for the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel 19 ¶ And it came to pass while Saul talked unto the priest that the ‖ Or tumult noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased and Saul said unto the priest Withdraw thine hand 20 And Saul and all the people that were with him †Heb. were cryed together assembled themselves and they came to the battel and behold * Judges 7.22 2 Chro. 20.23 every mans sword was against his fellow and there was a very great discomfiture 21 Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time which went up with them into the camp from the countrey
round about even they also turned to he with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan 22 Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim when they heard that the Philistines fled even they also followed hard after them in the battel 23 So the LORD saved Israel that day and the battel passed over unto Beth-aven 24 ¶ And the men of Israel were distressed that day for Saul had adjured the people saying Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening that I may be avenged on mine enemies so none of the people tasted any food 25 And all they of the land came to a wood and there was honey upon the ground 26 And when the people were come into the wood behold the honey dropped but no man put his hand to his mouth for the people feared the oath 27 But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipt it in an honey-comb and put his hand to his mouth and his eyes were enlightned 28 Then answered one of the people and said Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath saying Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day And the people were ‖ Or weary faint 29 Then said Jonathan My father hath troubled the land see I pray you how mine eyes have been enlightned because I tasted a little of this honey 30 How much more if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines 31 And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Ajjalon and the people were very faint 32 And the people flew upon the spoil and took sheep and oxen and calves and slew them on the ground and the people did eat them * Lev. 7.26 19.26 Deu. 12.16 with the bloud 33 ¶ Then they told Saul saying Behold the people sin against the LORD in that they eat with the bloud And he said Ye have ‖ Or dealt treacherously transgressed roll a great stone unto me this day 34 And Saul said Disperse yourselves among the people and say unto them Bring me hither every man his ox and every man his sheep and slay them here and eat and sin not against the LORD in eating with the bloud And all the people brought every man his ox †Heb. in his hand with him that night and slew them there 35 And Saul built an altar unto the LORD †Heb. that altar be began to build unto the LORD the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD 36 ¶ And Saul said Let us go down after the Philistines by night and spoil them until the morning light and let us not leave a man of them And they said Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee Then said the priest Let us draw near hither unto God 37 And Saul asked counsel of God shall I go down after the Philistines wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel But he answered him not that day 38 And Saul said Draw ye near hither all the †Heb. â—orners Judg. 20.2 chief of the people and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day 39 For as the LORD liveth which saveth Israel though it be in Jonathan my son he shall surely die But there was not a man among all the people that answered him 40 Then said he unto all Israel Be ye on one side and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side And the people said unto Saul Do what seemeth good unto thee 41 Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel ‖ Or Shew the innocent Give a perfect lot And Saul and Jonathan were taken but the people †Heb. went forth escaped 42 And Saul said Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son And Jonathan was taken 43 Then Saul said to Jonathan Tell me what thou hast done And Jonathan told him and said I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand and so I must die 44 And Saul answered God do so and more also for thou shalt surely die Jonathan 45 And the people said unto Saul Shall Jonathan die who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel God forbid as the LORD liveth there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground for he hath wrought with God this day So the people rescued Jonathan that he died not 46 Then Saul went up from following the Philistines and the Philistines went to their own Place 47 ¶ So Saul took the kingdom over Israel and fought against all his enemies on every side against Moab and against the children of Ammon and against Edom and against the kings of Zobah and against the Philistines and whithersoever he turned himself he vexed them 48 And he ‖ Or. wrought mightâ—â— gathered an host and smote the Amalekites and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them 49 Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan and Ishui and Melchi-shua and the names of his two daughters were these the name of the first-born Merab and the name of the younger Michal 50 And the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz and the name of the captain of his host was Abner the son of Ner Sauls uncle 51 And Kish was the father of Saul and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel 52 And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul and when Saul saw any strong man or any valiant man he took him unto him CHAP. XV. 1 Samuel sendeth Saul to destroy Amalek 6 Saul favoureth the Kenites 8 He spareth Agag and the best of the spoil 10 Samuel denounceth unto Saul commending and excusing himself Gods rejection of him for his disobedience 24 Sauls humiliation 32 Samuel killeth Agag 34 Samuel and Saul part SAmuel also said unto Saul * Chap. 9.16 The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people over Israel now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts I remember that which Amalek did to Israel * Ex. 17. â— Numb 24.20 how he laid wait for him in the way when he came up from Egypt 3 Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have and spare them not but slay both man and woman infant and suckling ox and sheep camel and ass 4 And Saul gathered the people together and numbred them in Telaim two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah 5 And Saul came to a city of A malek and ‖ Or. fought laid wait in the valley 6 ¶ And Saul said unto the Kenites Go depart get you down from among the Amalekites lest I destroy you
of Israel answered the men of Judah and said We have ten parts in the king and we have also more right in David then ye why then dâ—d ye †Heb. set us at â—ight despise us that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer then the words of the men of Israel CHAP. XX. 1 By occasion of the quarrel Sheba maketh a party in Israel 3 Davids ten concubines are shut up in perpetual prâ—son 4 Amasa made captain over Judah is slain by Jâ—ab 14 Joab pursueth Sheba unto Abel 16 A wise woman saveth the city by Sheba's head 23 Davids officers ANd there hapned to be there a man of Belial whose name was Sheba the son of Bâ—chri a Benjamite and he blew a trumpet and said We have no part in David neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse every man to his tents O Israel 2 So every man of Israel went up from after David and followed Sheba the son of Bâ—chri but the men of Judah clave unto their king from Jordan even to Jerusalem 3 ¶ And David came to his house at Jerusalem and the king took the ten women his * Chap. 16.22 concubines whom he had left to keep the house and put them in †Heb. a house of ward ward and fed them but went not in unto them so they were †Heb. bound shut up unto the day of their death †Heb. in widowhood of life living in widowhood 4 ¶ Then said the king to Amasa †Heb. Call Assemble me the men of Judah within three days and be thou here present 5 So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah but he tarried longer then the set time which he had appointed him 6 And David said to Abishai Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm then did Absalom take thou thy lords servants and pursue after him lest he get him fenced cities and †Heb. deliver himself from our eyes escape us 7 And there went out after him Joabs men and the * Chap. 8.18 Cherethites and the Pelethites and all the mighty men and they went out of Jerusalem to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri 8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon Amasa went before them and Joabs garment that he had put on was girded unto him and upon it a girdle with a sword fastned upon his loyns in the sheath thereof and as he went forth it fell out 9 And Joab said to Amasa Art thou in health my brother And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him 10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joabs hand so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib and shed out his bowels to the ground and †Heb. dâ—ubled not 〈◊〉 stroke strook him not again and he died so Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri 11 And one of Joabs men stood by him and said He that favoureth Joab and he that is for David let him go after Joab 12 And Amasa wallowed in bloud in the midst of the high-way and when the man saw that all the people stood still he removed Amasa out of the high-way into the field and cast a cloth upon him when be saw that every one that came by him stood still 13 When he was removed oâ—t of the high-way all the people went on after Joab to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri 14 ¶ And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel and to Beth-maachah and all the Berites and they were gathered together and went also after him 15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maachah and they cast up a bank against the city and ‖ Or it stoâ—◠〈◊〉 the outmost 〈◊〉 it stood in the trench and all the people that were with Joab †Heb. â—â—â—ed to â—â—row down battered the wall to throw it down 16 ¶ Then cried a wise woman out of the city Hear hear say I pray you unto Joab Come near hither that I may speak with thee 17 And when he was come near unto her the woman said Art thou Joab And he answered I am he Then she said unto him Hear the woâ—ds of thine hand-maid And he answered I do hear 18 Then she spake saying ‖ Or Tâ—â—â—â—â—ainly spake in the beginning sayinâ— Surely they will ask of Abel and so make an end They were wont to speak in old time saying They shall surely ask counsel at Abel and so they ended 〈◊〉 matter 19 I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel thou seekeâ—t to destroy a city and a mother in Israel why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD 20 And Joab answered and said Far be it far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy 21 The matter is not so but a man of mount Ephraim Sheba the 〈◊〉 of Bichri †Heb. by 〈◊〉 name by name hath lift up his hand against the king even against David deliver him onely and I will depart from the câ—ty And the woman said unto Joab Behold his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall 22 Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom and they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and cast it out to Joab and he blew a trumpet and they †Heb. were sâ—aâ—â—â—â—ed retired from the city every man to his tent and Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king 23 ¶ Now * Chap. 8.16 Joab was over all the host of Israel and Benaiâ—h the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethâ—tes and over the Pelethites 24 And Adoram was over the tribute and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was ‖ Or remâ—mbrancâ—â— recorder 25 And Sheva was scribe and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests 26 And Ira also the Jairite was ‖ Or a 〈◊〉 a chief ruler about David CHAP. XXI 1 The three years famine for the Gibeonites cease by hangint seven of Sâ—uls sons 10 Râ—zpahs kindness unto the dead 12 David burieth the bones of Saul and Jonathan in his fathâ—rs sepulchre 15 Four battels against the Philistines wherein four vâ—liants of David slay four giants THen there was a famine in the days of David three yâ—ars year after year and David †Heb. sâ—uâ—â—t the faâ—e c. enquired of the LORD And the LORD answered It is for Saul and for his bloudy house because he â—lew the Gibeonites 2 And the king called the Gibeonites and said unto them now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel but * Josh 9.3 16 17. of the remnant of the Amorâ—tes and the children of Israel had sworn unto them and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah 3 Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites What
in his transgression have we prepared and sanctified and behold they are before the altar of the LORD 20 ¶ Then Hezekiah the king rose early and gathered the rulers of the city and went up to the house of the LORD 21 And they brought seven bullocks and seven rams and seven lambs and seven he-goats for a * Levit. â— 14 sin-offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah and he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD 22 So they killed the bullocks and the priests received the bloud and * Levit. 8.14 1â— Heb. 9.21 sprinkled it on the altar likewise when they had killed the rams they sprinkied the bloud upon the altar they killed also the lambs and they sprinkled the bloud upon the altar 23 And they brought †Heb. near forth the he-goats for the sin-offering before the king and the congregation and they laid their * Levit. 4.15 hands upon them 24 And the priests killed them and they made reconciliation with their bloud upon the altar to make an atonement for all Israel for the king commanded that the burnt-offering and the sin-offering should be made for all Israel 25 * 1 Chron 16.4 and 25.6 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals with psalteries and with harps according to the commandment of David and of Gad the kings seer and Nathan the prophet for so was the commandment †Heb. by the hand of the LORD of the LORD †Heb. by the hand of by his prophets 26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David and the priests with the trumpets 27 And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt-offering upon the altar and †Heb. in the time when the burnt-offering began the song of the LORD beâ—an also with the trumpets and with the †Heb. hands of instruments instruments ordained by David king of Israel 28 And all the congregation worshipped and the †Heb. song singers sang and the trumpeters sounded and all this continued until the burnt-offering was finished 29 And when they had made an end of offering the king and all that were †Heb. sound present with him bowed themselves and worshipped 30 Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David and of Asaph the seer and they sang praises with gladness and they bowed their heads and worshipped 31 Then Hezekiah answered and said Now ye have ‖ Or filled your hand consecrated your selves unto the LORD come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank-offerings and as many as were of a free heart burnt-offerings 22 And the number of the burnt offerings which the congregation brought was threescore and ten bulloâ—ks an hundred rams and two hundred lambs all these were for a burnt-offering to the LORD 33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep 34 But the priests were too sew so that they could not stay all the burnt-offerings wherefore their brethren the Levites †Heb. strengthned them did help them till the work was ended and until the other priests had sanctified themselves for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctifie themselves then the priests 35 And also the burnt-offerings were in abundance with the fat of the peace-offerings and the drink-offerings for every burnt-offering So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order 36 And Hezekiah rejoyced and all the people that God had prepared the people for the thing was done suddenly CHAP. XXX 1 Hezekiah proclaimeth a solemn pass-over on the second moneth for Judah and Israel 13 The assembly having destroyed the altars of idolatry keep the feast fourteen days 27 The priests and Levites bless the people ANd Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah and wrote letters also to Eparaim and Manasseh that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem to keep the pass-over unto the LORD God of Israel 2 For the king had taken counsel and his princes and all the congregation in Jerusalem to keep the pass-over in the second * Num. 9.10 11. moneth 3 For they could not keep it at that time because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem 4 And the thing †Heb. was right in the eyes of the king pleased the king and all the congregation 5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel from Beer sheba even to Dan that they should come to keep the pass-over unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written 6 So the posts went with the letters †Heb. from the â—â—nd from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah and according to the commandment of the king saying Ye children of Israel turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham Isaac and Israel and he will return to the remnant of you that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria 7 And be not ye like your fathers and like your brethren which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers who therefore gave them up to desolation as ye see 8 Now †Heb. â—arden not your necks be ye not stiff-necked as your fathers were but †Heb. give the hâ—nd yeeld your selves unto the LORD and enter into his sanctuary which he hath sanctified for ever and serve the LORD your God that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you 9 For if ye turn again unto the LORD your brethren and your children shall finde compassion before them that lead them captive so that they shall come again into this land for the LORD your God is * Exod. 34.6 gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you if ye return unto him 10 So the posts passed from city to city through the countrey of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun but they laughed them to scorn and mocked them 11 Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem 12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by the word of the LORD 13 ¶ And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second moneth a very great congregation 14 And they arose and took away the * Chap. 28 24. altars that were in Jerusalem and all the altars for incense took they away and cast them into the brook Kidron 15 Then they killed the pass-over on the fourteenth day of the second moneth and the priests and the Levites were

upon all the inhabitants of the earth saith the LORD of hosts 30 Therefore prophesie thou against them all these words and say unto them The LORD shall * Joel 3.16 Alli 1.2 roar from on high and utter his voice from his holy habitation he shall mightily roar upon his habitation he shall give a shout as they that tread the grapes against all the inhabitants of the earth 31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth for the LORD hath a controversie with the nations he will plead with all flesh he will give them that are wicked to the sword saith the LORD 32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts Behold evil shall go forth from nation to nation and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth 33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth they shall not be * Ch. 16.4 lamented neither gathered nor buried they shall be dung upon the ground 34 ¶ * Ch. 4.8 6.25 Howl ye shepherds and cry and wallow your selves in the ashes ye principal of the flock for †Heb. your days for slaughter the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished and ye shall fall like †Heb. a vessil of desire a pleasant vessel 35 And †Heb. flight shall perish from the shepherds and â—scapint from c. the shepherds shall have no way to flee nor the principal of the flock to escape 36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds and an howling of the principal of the flock shall be heard for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture 37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD 38 He hath forsaken his covert as the lion for their land is †Heb. 〈◊〉 desolation desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressour and because of his fierce anger CHAP. XXVI 1 Jeremiah by promises and threatnings exhorteth to repentants 8 He is therefore apprehended 10 and arraigned 11 His apology 16 He is quit in judgement by the example of Miâ—ah 20 and of Vrijah 24 and by the care of Ahikans IN the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD saying 2 Thus saith the LORD Stand in the court of the LORDS house and speak unto all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the LORDS house all the words that I command thee to speak unto them * Act. â—0 27 diminish not a word 3 If so be they will hearken and turn every man from his evil way that I may * Ch. 18.8 repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings 4 And thou shalt say unto them Thus saith the LORD If ye will not hearken to me to walk in my law which I have set before you 5 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent unto you both rising up early and sending them but ye have not hearkned 6 Then will I make this house like * 1 Sa. 4.12 Ps 78.60 Ch. 7.12 14 Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth 7 So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD 8 ¶ Now it came to pass when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him saying Thou shalt surely die 9 Why halt thou prophesied in the name of the LORD saying This house shall be like Shiloh and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant and all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD 10 ¶ When the princes of Judah heard these things then they came up from the kings house unto the house of the LORD and sat down ‖ Or at the door in the entry of the new gate of the LORDS house 11 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people saying †Heb. The judgement of death is for this man This man is worthy to die for he hath prophesied against this city as ye have heard with your ears 12 ¶ Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people saying The LORD sent me to prophesie against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard 13 Therefore now * Ch. 7.3 amend your ways and your doings and obey the voice of the LORD your God and the LORD will * Ver. 19. repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you 14 As for me behold I am in your hand do with me †Heb. as it is good and right in your eyes as seemeth good and meet unto you 15 But know ye for certain that if ye put me to death ye shall surely bring innocent bloud upon your selves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants thereof for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears 16 ¶ Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets This man is not worthy to die for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God 17 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land and spake to all the assembly of the people saying 18 * Mic. 1.1 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spake to all the people of Judah saying Thus saith the LORD of hosts * Mic. 3.12 Zion shall be plowed like a field and Jerusalem shall become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death did he not fear the LORD and besought †Heb. the face of the LORD the LORD and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them Thus might we procure great evil against our souls 20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah 21 And when Jehoiakim the king with all his mighty men and all the princes heard his words the king sought to put him to death but when Urijah heard it he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt 22 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt namely Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him into Egypt 23 And they fet forth Urijah out of Egypt and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the â€
day is come when their iniquity shall have an end 30 ‖ Or cause it to return Shall I cause it to return into his sheath I will judge thee in the place where thou wast created in the land of thy nativity 31 And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee I will blow against thee in the tire of my wrath and deliver thee into the hand of ‖ Or burning brutish men and skilful to destroy 32 Thou shalt be for fewel to the fire thy bloud shall be in the midst of the land thou shalt be no more remembred for I the LORD have spoken it CHAP. XXII 1 A catalogue of sins in Jerusalem 13 God will burn them as dross in his furnace 23 The general corruption of prophets priests princes and people MOreover the word of the LORD came unto me saying 2 Now thou son of man * Ch. 2â— 4 23.35 wilt thou ‖ Or plead for judge wilt thou judge the †Heb. city of blouâ—s bloudy city yea thou shalt †Heb. make her know shew her all her abominations 3 Then say thou Thus saith the Lord GOD The city sheddeth bloud in the midst of it that her time may come and maketh idols against her self to desile her self 4 Thou art become guilty in thy bloud that thou hast * 2 King 21.16 shed and hast desiled thy self in thine idols which thou hast made and thou hast caused thy days to draw near and art come even unto thy years therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen and a mocking to all countreys 5 Those that be near and those that be far from thee shall mock thee which art †Heb. polluted of name must in vexation infamious and much vexed 6 Behold the princes of Israel every one were in thee to their †Heb. arm power to shed bloud 7 In thee have they set light by father and mother in the midst of thee have they dealt by ‖ Or deceit oppression with the stranger in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow 8 Thou hast despised mine holy things and hast profaned my sabbaths 9 In thee are †Heb. men of standers men that carry tales to shed bloud and in thee they eat upon the mountains in the midst of thee they commit lewdness 10 In thee have they * Lev. 18.8 20.11 discovered their fathers nakedness in thee have they humbled her that was * Lev. 18.19 set apart for pollution 11 And ‖ Or every one one hath committed abomination with his neighbours * Levit. 18 2â— Jer. 5.8 wife and ‖ Or every one another hath ‖ Or by 〈◊〉 lewdly defiled his daughter in faw and another in thee hath humbled his * Lev. 18. â— sister his fathers daughter 12 In thee have they taken gifts to shed bloud thou hast taken usury and increase and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion and hast forgotten me saith the Lord GOD. 13 ¶ Behold therefore I have * Ch. 21.17 smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made and at thy bloud which hath been in the midst of thee 14 Can thine heart endure or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee I the LORD have spoken it and will do it 15 And I will scatter thee among the heathen and disperse thee in the countreys and will consume thy filthiness out of thee 16 And thou ‖ Or shalt 〈◊〉 profaâ—ed shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen and thou shalt know that I am the LORD 17 And the word of the LORD came unto me saying 18 Son of man the house of Israel is to me become dross all they are brass and tin and iron and come for this world is full of unrighteousness and infirmities 28 But as concerning the things whereof thou askest me I will tell thee for the evil is sown but the destruction thereof is not yet come 29 If therefore that which is sown be not turned upside down and if the place where the evil is sown pass not away then cannot it come that is sown with good 30 For the grain of evil seed hath been sown in the heart of Adam from the beginning and how much ungodliness hath it brought up unto this time and how much shall it yet bring forth until the ‖ Or floor time of threshing come 31 Ponder now by thyself how great fruit of wickedness the grain of evil seed hath brought forth 32 And when the ears shall be cut down which are without number how great a floor shall they fill 33 Then I answered and said How and when shall these things come to pass wherefore are our years few and evil 34 And he answered me saying Do not thou hasten above the most Highest for thy haste is in vain to be above him for thou hast much exceeded 35 Did not the souls also of the righteous ask question of these things in their chambers saying How long shall I hope on this fashion when cometh the fruit of the floor of our reward 36 And unto these things ‖ Or Jeremiel Uriel the archangel gave them answer and said Even when the number of seeds is filled in you for he hath weighed the world in the balance 37 By measure hath he measured the times and by number hath he numbred the times and he doth not move nor stir them until the said measure be fulfilled 38 Then answered I and said O Lord that bearest rule even we all are full of impiety 39 And for our sakes peradventure it is that the floors of the righteous are not filled because of the sins of them that dwell upon the earth 40 So he answered me and said Go thy way to a woman with childe and ask of her when she hath fulfilled her nine moneths if her womb may keep the birth any longer within her 41 Then said I No Lord that can she not And he said unto me In the grave the chambers of souls are like the womb of a woman 42 For like as a woman that travaileth maketh haste to escape the necessity of the travail even so do these places haste to deliver those things that are committed unto them 43 From the beginning look what thou desirest to see it shall be shewed thee 44 Then answered I and said If I have found favour in thy sight and if it be possible and if I be meet therefore 45 Shew me then whether there be more to come then is past or more past then is to come 46 What is past I know but what is for to come I know not 47 And he said unto me Stand up upon the right side and I shall expound the similitude unto thee 48 So I stood and saw and behold an hot burning oven passed by before me and it happened that when the flame was gone by I looked and behold the smoke remained still 49 After this there passed by before me a watery cloud and sent down much rain with a storm and when the stormy rain was past the drops remained still 50 Then said he unto me Consider with thyself as the rain is more then the drops and as the fire is greater then the smoke but the drops and the smoke remain behinde so the ‖ Or measure quantity which is past did more exceed 51 Then I prayed and said May I live thinkest thou until that time or ‖ Or who shall be Manuscript what shall happen in those days 52 He answered me and said As for the tokens whereof thou askest me I may tell thee of them in part but as touching thy life I am not sent to shew thee for I do not know it CHAP. V. 1 The signes of the â—â—mes to come 23 He asketh why God choosing but one people did cast them off 30 He is taught that Gods judgements are unsearchable 46 and that God doeth not all at once NEvertheless as concerning the tokens behold the days shall come that they which dwell upon earth ‖ Or shall be found with great wealth shall be taken in a great number and the way of truth shall be hidden and the land shall be barren of faith 2 But * Matth. 2â— 12 iniquity shall be increased above that which now thou seest or that thou hast heard long ago 3 And the land ‖ Or that thou â—â—eadest upon and seest that thou seest now to have root shalt thou see wasted suddenly 4 But if the most High grant thee to live thou shalt see after the third trumpet that the sun shall suddenly shine again in the night and the moon thrice in the day 5 And bloud shall drop out of the wood and the stone shall give his voice and the people shall be troubled 6 And even he shall rule whom they look not for that dwell upon the earth and the fowls shall take their flight away together 7 And the Sodomitish sea shall cast out fish and make a noise in the night which many have not known but they shall all hear the voice thereof 8 There shall be a confusion also in many places and the fire shall be oft ‖ Or stoked sent out again and the wilde beasts shall change their places and menstruous women shall bring forth monsters 9 And salt waters shall be sound in the sweet and all friends shall destroy one another then shall wit hide it self and understanding withdraw it sell into his secret chamber 10 And shall be sought of many and yet not be sound then shall unrighteousness and incontinency be multiplyed upon earth 11 One land also shall ask another and say Is righteousness that maketh a man righteous gone through thee And it shall say No. 12 At the same time shall men hope but nothing obtain they shall labour but their ways shall not ‖ Or be dirested prosper 13 To shew thee such tokens I have leave and if thou wilt pray again and weep as now and fast seven days thou shalt hear yet greater things 14 Then I awaked and an extreme fearfulness went through all my body and my minde was troubled so that it sainted 15 So the angel that was come to talk with me held me comforted me and set me up upon my feet 16 And in the second night it came to pass that Salathiel the captain of the people came unto me saying Where hast thou been and why is thy countenance so heavy 17 Knowest thou not that Israel is committed unto thee in the land of their captivity 18 Up then and eat bread and forsake us not as the shepherd that leaveth his flock in the hands of cruel wolves 19 Then said I unto him Go thy ways from me
upon the wicked 12 upon Egypt 28 An horrible vision 43 Babylon and Asia are threatned BEhold speak thou in the ears of my people the words of prophesie which I will put in thy mouth saith the Lord. 2 And cause them to be written in paper for they are faithful and true 3 Fear not the imaginations against thee let not the incredulity of them trouble thee that speak against thee 4 For all the unfaithful shall die in their unfaithfulness 5 Behold saith the Lord I will bring plagues upon the world the sword famine death and destruction 6 For wickedness hath exceedingly polluted the whose earth and their hurtful works are fulfilled 7 Therefore faith the Lord 8 I will hold my tongue no more as touching their wickedness which they profanely commit neither will I suffer them in those things in which they wickedly exercise themselves behold the * Rev. 6.10 â— 19.2 innocent and râ—ghteouâ— bloâ—d cryeth unto me and the souls of the just complain continually 9 And therefore faith the Lord. I will surely avenge them and receive unto me all the innocent bloud from among them 10 Behold my people is led as a flock to the slaughter I will not suffer them now to dwell in the land of Egypt 11 be sedition among men and invading one another they shall not regard their kings nor princes and the course of their actions shall stand in their power 17 A man shall desire to go into a city and shall not be able 18 For because of their pride the cities shall be troubled the houses shall be destroyed and men shall be afraid 19 A man shall have no pity upon his neighbour but shall destroy their houses with the sword and spoil their goods because of the lack of bread and for great tribulation 20 Behold saith God I will call together all the kings of the earth to reverence me which are from the rising of the sun from the south from the east and Libanus to turn themselves one against another and repay the things that they have done to them 21 Like as they do yet this day unto my chosen so will I do also and recompense in their bosom Thus saith the Lord God 22 My right hand shall not spare the sinners and my sword shall not cease over them that shed innocent bloud upon the earth 23 The fire is gone forth from his wrath and hath consumed the foundations of the earth and the sinners like the straw that is kindled 24 Wo to them that sin and keep not my commandments saith the Lord 25 I will not spare them go your way ye children from the power defile not my sanctuary 26 For the Lord knoweth all them that sin against him and therefore delivereth he them unto death and destruction 27 For now are the plagues come upon the whole earth and ye shall remain in them for God shall not deliver you because ye have finned against him 28 Behold an horrible vision and the appearance thereof from the east 29 Where the nations of the dragons of Arabia shall come out with many chariots and the multitude of them shall be carried as the wind upon earth that all they which hear them may fear and tremble 30 Also the Carmanians raging in wrath shall go forth as the wilde bores of the wood and with great power shall they come and joyn battel with them and shall waste a portion of the land of the Assyrians 31 And then shall the dragons have the upper hand remembring their nature and if they shall turn themselves conspiring together in great power to persecute them 32 Then these shall be troubled and keep silence through their power and shall flee 33 And from the land of the Assyrians shall the enemy besiege them and consume some of them and in their host shall be fear and dread and strife ‖ Or against among their kings 34 Behold clouds from the east and from the north unto the south and they are very horrible to look upon full of wrath and storm 35 They shall smite one upon another and they shall smite down a great multitude of stars upon the earth even their own star and bloud shall be from the sword unto the belly 36 And dung of men unto the camels ‖ Or pastern or litter hough 37 And there shall be great fearfulness and trembling upon earth and they that see the wrath shall be afraid and trembling shall come upon them 38 And then shall there come great storms from the south and from the north and another part from the west 39 And strong winds shall arise from the east and shall open it and the cloud which he raised up in wrath and the star stirred to cause fear toward the east and west wind shall be destroyed 40 The great and mighty clouds shall be lifted up full of wrath and the star that they may make all the earth afraid and them that dwell therein and they shall pour out over every high and eminent place and horrible star 41 Fire and hail and flying swords and many waters that all fields may be full and all rivers with the abundance of great waters 42 And they shall break down the cities and walls mountains and hills trees of the wood and grass of the medows and their corn 43 And they shall go stedfastly unto Babylon and ‖ Or destroy make her afraid 44 They shall come to her and besiege her the star and all wrath shall they pour out upon her then shall the dust and smoke go up unto the heaven and all they that be about her shall bewail her 45 And they that remain under her shall do service unto them that have put her in fear 46 And thou Asia that art ‖ Or like unto Babylon partaker of the hope of Babylon and art the glory of her person 47 Wo be unto thee thou wretch because thou hast made thy self like unto her and hast deckt thy daughters in wheredom that they might please and glory in thy lovers which temple 3 In his days the * 1 King 7.23 cistern to receive water being in compass as the sea was covered with plates of brass 4 He took care of the temple that it should not fall and fortified the city against besieging 5 How was he honoured in the midst of the people in his coming out of †Gr. the house of the â—â—il the sanctuary 6 He was as the morning star in the midst of a cloud and as the moon at the full 7 As the sun shining upon the temple of the most High and as the rainbowe giving light in the bright clouds 8 And as the flower of roses in the spring of the year as lilies by the rivers of waters and as the branches of the frankincense tree in the time of summer 9 As fire and incense in the censer and as a vessel of beaten gold set with all manner of precious stones 10 And as a fair olive-tree budding forth fruit and as a cypress tree which groweth up to the clouds 11 When he put on the robe of honour and was clothed with the perfection of glory when he went up to the holy altar he made the garment of holiness honourable 12 When he took the portions out of the priests hands he himself stood by the hearth of the altar compassed with his brethren round about as a young cedar in Libanus and as palm-trees compassed they him round about 13 So were all the sons of Aaron in their glory and the oblations of the Lord in their hands before all the congregation of Israel 14 And finishing the service at the altar that he might adorn the offering of the most high Almighty 15 He stretched out his hand to the cup and poured of the bloud of the grape he poured out at the foot of the altar a sweet-smelling savour unto the most high King of all 16 Then shouted the sons of Aaron and sounded the ‖ Or trumpets beacon forth with the 〈◊〉 silver trumpets and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before the most High 17 Then all the people together hasted and fell down to the earth upon their faces to worship their Lord God almighty the most High 18 The singers also sang praises with their voices with great variety of sounds was there made sweet melody 19 And the people besought the Lord the most High by prayer before him that is merciful till the solemnity of the Lord was ended and they had finished his service 20 Then he went down and lifted up his hands over the whose congregation of the children of Israel to give the blessing of the Lord with his lips and to rejoyce in his name 21 And they bowed themselves down to worship the second time that they might receive a blessing from the most High 22 Now therefore bless ye the God of all which onely doth wondrous things every where which exalteth our days from the womb and dealeth with us according to his mercy 23 He grant us joyfulness of heart and that peace may be in our days in Israel for ever 24 That he would confirm his mercy with us and deliver us at his time 25 There be two manner of nations which my heart abhorreth and the third is no nation 26 They that sit upon the mountain of Samaria and they that dwell amongst the Philistines and that foolish people that dwell in Sichem 27 Jesus the son of Sirach of Jerusalem hath written in this book the instruction of understanding and knowledge who out of his heart poured forth wisdom 28 Blessed is he that shall be exercised in these things and he that sayeth them up in his heart shall become wise 20 For if he do them he shall be strong to all things for the light of the Lord leadeth him who giveth wisdom to the godly Blesses be the Lord forever Amen amen CHAP. LI. ¶ A prayer of Jesus the son of Sirach I Will thank thee O Lord and King and praise thee O God my Saviour I do give praise unto thy name 2 For thou art my defender and helper and hast preserved my body from destruction and from the snare of the slandrous tongue and from the lips that forge lies and hast been mine helper against mine adversaries 3 And hast delivered me according to the multitude of thy mercies and greatness of thy name from †Gr. the gnashing of the teeth the teeth of them that were ready to devour me and out of the hands of such as sought after my life and from the manifold afflictions which I had 4 From the choking of fire on every side and from the mids of the fire which I kindled not 5 From the depth of the besly of hell from an unclean tongue and from sying words 6 By an accusation to the king from an unrighteous tongue my soul drew near even unto death my life was near to the hell beneath 7 They compassed me on every side and there was no man to help me I looked for the succour of men but there was none 8 Then thought I upon thy mercy O Lord and upon thy acts of old how thou deliverest such as wait for thee and savest them out of the hands of the enemies 9 Then lifted I up my supplication from the earth and prayed for deliverance from death 10 I called upon the Lord the Father of my Lord that he would not leave me in the days of my trouble and in the time of the proud when there was no help 11 I will praise thy name continually and will sing praise with thanksgiving and so my prayer was heard 12 For thou savedst me from destruction and deliveredst me from the evil time therefore will I give thanks and praise thee and bless thy name O Lord. 13 When I was yet young or ever I ‖ Or went astray went abroad I desired wisdom openly in my prayer 14 I prayed for her before the temple and will seek here out even to the end 15 Even from the flower till the grape was ripe hath my heart delighted in her my foot went the right way from my youth up sought I after her 16 I howed down mine ear a little and received her and gat much learning 17 I profited therein therefore will I ascribe the glory unto him that giveth me wisdom 18 For I purposed to do after her and earnestly I followed that which is good so shall I not be confounded 19 My soul hath wrestled with her and in my doings I was exact I stretched forth my hands to the heaven above and bewailed my ignorances of her 20 ‖ Or I got understanding I directed my soul unto her and I found her in pureness I have had my heart joyned with her from the beginning therefore shall I not be forsaken 21 My ‖ Or bowâ—lâ— heart was troubled in seeking her therefore have I gotten a good possession 22 The Lord hath given me a tongue for my reward and I will
a very fair woman and one that feared the Lord. 3 Her parents also were righteous and taught their daughter according to the law of Moses 4 Now Joacim was a great rich man and had a fair garden joyning unto his house and to him resorted the Jews because he was more honourable then all others 5 The same year were appointed two of the ancients of the people to be judges such as the Lord spake of that wickedness came from Babylon from ancient judges who seemed to govern the people 6 These kept much at Joacims house and all that had any suits in law came unto them 7 Now when the people departed away at noon Susanna went into her husbands garden to walk 8 And the two elders saw her going in every day and walking so that their lust was inflamed toward her 9 And they perverted their own minde and turned away their eyes that they might not look unto heaven nor remember just judgements 10 And albeit they both were wounded with her love yet durst not one shew another his grief 11 For they were ashamed to declare their lust that they desired to have to do with her 12 Yet they watched diligently from day to day to see her 13 And the one said to the other Let us now go home for it is dinner-time 14 So when they were gone out they parted the one from the other and turning back again they came to the same place and after they had asked one another the cause they acknowledged their lust then appointed they a time both together when they might finde her alone 15 And it fell out as they watched a fit time she went in †Gr. as yesterday and the day before as before with two maids onely and she was desirous to wash her self in the garden for it was hot 16 And there was no body there save the two elders that had hid themselves and watched her 17 Then she said to her maids Bring me oyl and washing-balls and shut the garden doors that I may wash me 18 And they did as she bade them and shut the garden-doors and went out themselves at ‖ Or side-doors privy doors to fetch the things that she had commanded them but they saw not the elders because they were hid 19 Now when the maids were gone forth the two elders rose up and ran unto her saying 20 Behold the garden-doors are shut that no man can see us and we are in love with thee therefore consent unto us and lie with us 21 If thou wilt not we will bear witness against thee that a young man was with thee and therefore thou didst send away thy maids from thee 22 Then Susanna sighed and said I am straighted on every side for if I do this thing it is death unto me and if I do it not I cannot escape your hands 23 It is better for me to fall into your hands and not to do it then to sin in the sight of the Lord. 24 With that Susanna cried with a loud voice and the two elders cried out against her 25 Then ran the one and opened the garden-door 26 So when the servants of the house heard the cry in the garden they rushed in at a privy door to see what was done unto her 27 But when the elders had declared their matter the servants were greatly ashamed for there was never such a report made of Susanna 28 And it came to pass the next day when the people were assembled to her husband Joacim the two elders came also full of mischievous imagination against Susanna to put her to death 29 And said before the people Send for Susanna the daughter of Chelcias Joacims wife and so they sent 30 So she came with her father and mother her children and all her kindred 31 Now Susanna was a very delicate woman and beauteous to behold 32 And these wicked men commanded to uncover her face for she was covered that they might be filled with her beauty 33 Therefore her friends and all that saw her wept 34 Then the two elders stood up in the mids of the people and said their hands upon her head 35 And she weeping looked up towards heaven for her heart trusted in the Lord. 36 And the elders said As we walked in the garden alone this woman came in with two maids and shut the garden doors and sent the maids away 37 Then a young man who there was hid came unto her and lay with her 38 Then we that stood in a corner of the garden seeing this wickedness ran unto them 39 And when we saw them together the man we could not hold for he was stronger then we and opened the door and leaped out 40 But having taken this woman we asked who the young man was but she would not tell us these things do we testifie 41 Then the assembly beleeve them as those that were the elders and judges of the people so they condemned her to death 42 Then Susanna cried out with a loud voice and said O everlasting God that knowest the secrets and knowest all things before they be 43 Thou knowest that they have born false witness against me and behold I must die whereas I never did such things as these men have maliciously invented against me 44 And the Lord heard her voice 45 Therefore when she was led to be put to death the Lord raised up the holy spirit of a young youth whose name was Daniel 46 Who cried with a loud voice I am clear from the bloud of this woman 47 Then all the people turned them towards him and said What mean those words that thou hast spoken 48 So he standing in the midst of them said Are ye such fools ye sons of Israel that without examination or knowledge of the truth ye have condemned a daughter of Israel 49 Return again to the place of judgement for they have born false witness against her 50 Wherefore all the people turned again in haste and the elders said unto him Come sit down among us and shew it us seeing God hath given thee the honour of an elder 51 Then said Daniel unto them Put these two aside one far from another and I will examine them 52 So when they were put asunder one from another he called one of them and said unto him O thou that art waxen old in wickedness now thy sins which thou hast committed aforetime are come to light 53 For thou hast pronounced false judgement and hast condemned the innocent and hast let the guilty go free albeit the Lord saith * Exod. 23.7 The innocent and righteous shalt thou not slay 54 Now then if thou hast seen her tell me Under what tree sawest thou them companying together Who answered Under a †Gr. lentiâ—k-trâ—â— mastick-tree 55 And Daniel said Very well thou hast lied against thine own head for even now the angel of God hath received the sentence of God to cut thee in two 56 So
he put him aside and commanded to bring the other and said unto him O thou seed of Chanaan and not of Juda beauty hath deceived thee and lust hath perverted thine heart 57 Thus have ye dealt with the daughters of Israel and they for fear companied with you but the daughter of Juda would not abide your wickedness 58 Now therefore tell me Under what tree didst thou take them companying together Who answered Under a ‖ Or kinde of oak holm-tree 59 Then said Daniel unto him Well thou hast also lied against thine own head for the angel of God waiteth with the sword to cut thee in two that he may destroy you 60 With that all the assembly cried out with a loud voice and praised God who saveth them that trust in him 61 And they rose against the two elders for Daniel had convctied them of false witness by their own mouth 62 And according to the law of Moses * Deut. 19.19 Prov. 19.5 they did unto them in such sort as they maliciously intended to do to their neighbour and they put them to death Thus the innocent bloud was saved the same day 63 Therefore Chelcias and his wife praised God for their daughter Susanna with Joacim her husband and all the kindred because there was no dishonesty found in her 64 From that day forth was Daniel had in great reputation in the sight of the people ¶ The history of the destruction of †Gr. Bels dragon Bel and the Dragon cut off from the end of DANIEL 19 The fraud of Bels priests is discovered by Daniel 27 and the dragon slain which was worshipped 33 Daniel is preserved in the lions â—en 42 The king doth acknowledge the God of Daniel and casteth his enemies into the same den ANd king Astyages was gathered to his fathers and Cyrus of Persia received his kingdom 2 And Daniel ‖ Or liveâ— with the king conversed with the king and was honoured above all his friends 3 Now the Babylonians had an idol called Bel. and there were spent upon him every day twelve great measures of fine flour and fourty sheep and six vessels of wine 4 And the king worshipped it and went daily to adore it but Daniel worshipped his own God And the king said unto him Why dost not thou worship Bel 5 Who answered and said Because I may not worship idols made with hands but the living God who hath created the heaven and the earth and hath sovereignty over all flesh 6 Then said the king unto him Thinkest thou not that Bel is a living god seest thou not how much he eateth and drinketh every day 7 Then Daniel smiled and said O king be not deceived for this is but clay within and brass without and did never * Ecclus 30.19 eat or drink any thing 8 So the king was wroth and called for his priests and said unto them If ye tell me not who this is that devoureth these expenses ye shall die 9 But if you can certifie me that Bel devoureth them then Daniel shall die for he hath spoken blasphemy against Bel. And Daniel said unto the king Let it be according to thy word 10 Now the priests of Bel were threescore and ten beside their wives and children and the king went with Daniel into the temple of Bel. 11 So Bels priests said Lo we go out but thou O king set on the meat and make ready the wine and shut the door fast and seal it with thine own signet 12 And to morrow when thou comest in if thou findest not that Bel hath eaten up all we will suffer death or else Daniel that speaketh falsly against us 13 And they little regarded it for under the table they had made a privy entrance whereby they entred in continually and consumed those things 14 So when they were gone forth the king set meats before Bel. Now Daniel had commanded his servants to bring ashes and those they strewed throughout all the temple in the presence of the king alone then went they out and shut the door and sealed it with the kings signet and so departed 15 Now in the night came the priests with their wives and children as they were wont to do and did eat and drink up all 16 In the morning betime the king arose and Daniel with him 17 And the king said Daniel are the seals whole And he said Yea O king they be whole 18 And assoon as he had opened the door the king looked upon the table and cried with a loud voice Great art thou O Bel and with thee is no deceit at all 19 Then laughed Daniel and held the king that he should not go in and said Behold now the pavement and mark well whose footsteps are these 20 And the king said I see the footsteps of men women and children And then the king was angry 21 And took the priests with their wives and children who shewed him the privy doors where they came in and consumed such things as were upon the table 22 Therefore the king slew them and delivered Bel into Daniels power who destroyed him and his temple 23 ‖ Some add this title Of the dragon And in that same place there was a great dragon which they of Babylon worshipped 24 And the king said unto Daniel Wilt thou also say that this is of brass so he liveth he eateth and drinketh thou canst not say that he is no living god therefore worship him 25 Then said Daniel unto the king I will worship the Lord my God for he is the living God 26 But give me leave O king and I shall slay this dragon without sword or staff The king said I give thee leave 27 Then Daniel took pitch and fat and hair and did seethe them together and made lumps thereof this he put in the dragons mouth and so the dragon burst in sunder and Daniel said ‖ Or Behold what you worship Lo These are the gods you worship 28 When they of Babylon heard that they took great indignation and conspired against the king saying The king is become a Jew and he hath destroyed Bel he hath slain the dragon and put the priests to death 29 So they came to the king and said Deliver us Daniel or else we will destroy thee and thine house 30 Now when the king saw that they pressed him sore being constrained he * Dan 6.16 delivered Daniel unto them 31 Who cast him into the lions den where he was six days 32 And in the den there were seven lions and they had given them every day ‖ Or two slaves two carcases and two sheep which then were not given to them to the intent they might devour Daniel 33 Now there was in Jewry a prophet called Habbacuc who had ‖ Or sod made pottage and had broken bread in a bowl and was going into the field for to bring it to the reapers 34 But the angel of the Lord said unto Habbacuc Go
and the kings forces are defeated by Judas 49 The day of this victory is kept holy every year IN the hundred and one and fiftieth year Demetrius the son of Seleucus departed from Rome and came up with a few men unto ‖ Triposts Joseph Antiq lib. 12. â— 16 a city of the sea-coast and reigned there 2 And as he entred into the †Gr. house of the kingdom of his 〈◊〉 palace of his ancestours so it was that his forces had taken Antiochus and Lysias to bring them unto him 3 Wherefore when he knew it he said Let me not see their faces 4 So his host slew them Now when Demetrius was set upon the throne of his kingdom 5 There came unto him all the wicked and ungodly men of Israel having Alcimus who was desirous to be high priest for their captain 6 And they accused the people to the king saying Judas and his brethren have slain all thy friends and driven us out of our own land 7 Now therefore send some man whom thou trustest and let him go and see what havock he hath made amongst us and in the kings land and let him punish them with all them that aid them 8 Then the king chose Bacchides a friend of the king who ruled beyond the floud and was a great man in the kingdom and faithful to the king 9 And him he sent with the wicked Alcimus whom he made high priest commanded that he should take vengeance of the children of Israel 10 So they departed and came with a great power into the land of Judea where they sent messengers to Judas and his brethren with peaceable words deceitfully 11 But they gave no heed to their words for they saw that they were come with a great power 12 Then did there assemble unto Alcimus and Bacchides a company of ‖ Or officers governours chiefmen or men in authority scribes to require justice 13 Now the Assideans were the first among the children of Israel that sought peace of them 14 For said they One that is a priest of the seed of Aaron is come with this army and he will do us no wrong 15 So he spake unto them peaceably and sware unto them saying We will procure the harm neither of you nor your friends 16 Whereupon they beleeved him howbeit he took of them threescore men and slew them in one day according to the words which he wrote 17 * Ps 79.2 3. The flesh of thy saints have they cast out their bloud have they shed round about Jerusalem and there was none to bury them 18 Wherefore the fear and dread of them fell upon all the people who said There is neither truth nor †Gr. judgement righteousness in them for they have broken the covenant and oath that they made 19 After this removed Bacchides from Jerusalem and pitched his tents in Bezeth where he sent and took many of the men that had forsaken him and certain of the people also and when he had slain them he cast them into the great pit 20 Then committed he the countrey to Alcimus and left with him a power to aid him so Bacchides went to the king 21 But Alcimus ‖ Or laboured to defend his high priesthood contended for the high priesthood 22 And unto him resorted all such as troubled the people who after they had gotten the land of Juda into their power did much hurt in Israel 23 Now when Judas saw all the mischief that Alcimus and his company had done among the Israelites even above the heathen 24 He went out into all the coasts of Judea round about and took vengeance of them that had ‖ Or fled from him to the enemy revolted from him so that they durst no more ‖ Or invade the countrey go forth into the countrey 25 On the other side when Alcimus saw that Judas and his company ‖ Or was groan â—ny strong had gotten the upper hand and knew that he was not able †Gr. to abide them to abide their force he went again to the king and said all the worst of them that he could 26 Then the king sent Nicanor one of his honourable princes a man that bare deadly hate unto Israel with commandment to destroy the people 27 So Nicanor came to Jerusalem with a great force and sent unto Judas and his brethren deceitfully with †Gr. peaceable friendly words saying 28 Let there be no battel between me and you I will come with a few men that I may †Gr. see your faces see you in peace 29 He came therefore to Judas they saluted one another peaceably Howbeit the enemies were prepared to take away Judas by violence 30 Which thing after it was known to Judas to wit that he came unto him with deceit he was sore afraid of him would see his face no more 31 Nicanor also when he saw that his counsel was discovered went out to †Gr. meet Judas in battel fight against Judas besides ‖ Or Carphasalama Capharsalama 32 Where there were slain of Nicanors side about five thousand men and the rest fled into the city of David 33 After this went Nicanor up to mount Sion and there came out of the sanctuary certain of the priests and certain of the elders of the people to salute him peaceably and to shew him the burnt-sacrifice that was offered for the king 34 But he mocked them and laughed at them and †Gr. defiled them abused them shamefully and spake proudly 35 And swore in his wrath saying Unless Judas and his host be now delivered into my hands if ever I come again †Gr. in peace in safety I will burn up this house and with that he went out in a great rage 36 Then the priests entred in and stood before the altar and the temple weeping and saying 37 Thou O Lord didst choose this house to be called by thy name and to be a house of prayer and petition for thy people 38 Be avenged of this man his host and let them fall by the sword remember their blasphemies and suffer them not to continue any longer 39 So Nicanor went out of Jerusalem and pitched his tents in Bethoron where an host out of Syria met him 40 But Judas pitched in Adasa with three thousand men and there he prayed saying 41 * 2 Kin. 19.35 O Lord when they that were sent from the king of the Assyrians blasphemed thine angel went out and smote an hundred fourscore and five thousand of them 〈◊〉 37.26 Ecclus 4â— 21 2 Mac. 8.19 42 Even so destroy thou this host before us this day that the rest may know that he hath spoken blasphemously against thy sanctuary and judge thou him according to his wickedness 43 So the thirteenth day of the moneth Adar the hosts joyned battel but Nicanors host was discomfitted and he himself was first slain in the battel 44

XIX 1 God is praised in heaven for judging the great whore and avenging the bloud of his saints 7 The marriage of the Lamb. 10 The angel will not be worshipped 17 The fowls called to the great slaughter ANd after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven saying Alleluia Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God 2 For true and righteous are his judgements for he hath judged the great whore which did corrupt the earth with her sâ—rnication and hath avenged the bloud of his servants at her hand 3 And again they said Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne saying Amen Alleluia 5 And a voice came out of the throne saying Praise our God all ye his servants and ye that fear him both small and great 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thundrings saying Alleluia for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth 7 Let us be glad and rejoyce and give honour to him for the marriage of the Lamb is come and his wife hath made her self ready 8 And to her was granted that she should be arayed in fine linen clean and white for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints 9 And he saith unto me Write * Mat. 22.2 Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me These are the true sayings of God 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him and he said unto me * Chap. 22 9. See thou do it not I am thy fellow-servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesie 11 And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true and in righteousness he doth judge and make war 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns and he had a name written that no man knew but he himself 13 * Isa 63.2 And he was clothed with a vesture dipt in bloud and his name is called The Word of God 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen white and clean 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword that with it he should smite the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written * Chap. 17.14 KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried with a loud voice saying to all the fowls that flie in the midst of heaven Come and gather your selves together unto the supper of the great God 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of captains and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of them that sit on them and the flesh of all men both free and bond both small and great 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse and against his army 20 And the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse which sword proceeded out of his mouth and all the fowls were filled with their flesh CHAP. XX. 2 Satan bound for a thousand years 5 The first resurrection 6 they blessed that have part therein 7 Satan let loose again 8 God and Magog 10 The devil cast into the lake of fire and brimstone 12 The last and general resurrection ANd I saw an angel come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand 2 And he laid hold on the dragon that old serpent which is the devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled and after that he must be loosed a little season 4 And I saw thrones and they sat upon them and judgement was given unto them and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and which had not worshipped the beast neither his image neither had received his mark upon their forcheads or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished This is the first resurrection 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection on such the second death hath no power but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years 7 And when the thousand years are expired Satan shall be loosed out of his prison 8
congregation 22 for the ruler 27 for any of the people ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel saying If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done and shall do against any of them 3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people then let him bring for his sin which he hath sinned a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin-offering 4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD and shall lay his hand upon the bullocks head and kill the bullock before the LORD 5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullocks bloud and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation 6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the bloud and sprinkle of the bloud seven times before the LORD before the vail of the sanctuary 7 And the priest shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD which is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour * Chap. ◠◠all the bloud of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 8 And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin-offering the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 9 And the two kidneys the fat that is upon them which is by the flanks and the caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt-offering 11 * Exod. 29.14 Num. 19.5 And the skin of the bullock and all his flesh with his head and with his legs and his inwards and his dung 12 Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth †Heb. to without the camp without the camp unto a clean place where the ashes are poured out and * Heb. 13.11 burn him on the wood with fire †Heb. at the pouring out of the ashes where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt 13 ¶ And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance * Chap. 5.2.3 4. and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done and are guilty 14 When the sin which they have sinned against it is known then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD and the bullock shall be killed before the LORD 16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullocks bloud to the tabernacle of the congregation 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the bloud and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD even before the vail 18 And he shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD that is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour out all the bloud at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 19 And he shall take all his fat from him and burn it upon the altar 20 And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin-offering so shall he do with this and the priest shall make an atonement for them and it shall be forgiven them 21 And he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp and burn him as he burned the first bullock it is a sin-offering for the congregation 22 ¶ When a ruler hath sinned and done somewhat through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD his God concerning things which should not be done and is guilty 23 Or if his sin wherein he hath sinned come to his knowledge he shall bring his offering a kid of the goats a male without blemish 24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD it is a sin-offering 25 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out his bloud at the bottom of the altar of burnt-offering 26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar as the fat of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin and it shall be forgiven him 27 ¶ And if †Heb. any soul any one of the †Heb. people of the land common people sin through ignorance while he doth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done and be guilty 28 Or if his sin which he hath sinned come to his knowledge then he shall bring his offering a kid of the goats a female without blemish for his sin which he hath sinned 29 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin-offering and slay the sin-offering in the place of the burnt-offering 30 And the priest shall take of the bloud thereof with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out all the bloud thereof at the bottom of the altar 31 And * Chap. 2.14 he shall take away all the fat thereof as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a * Exod. 29.18 sweet savour unto the LORD and the priest shall make an atonement for him and it shall be forgiven him 32 And if he bring a lamb for a sin-offering he shall bring it a female without blemish 33 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin-offering and slay it for a sin-offering in the place where they kill the burnt-offering 34 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out all the bloud thereof at the bottom of the altar 35 And he shall take away all the fat thereof as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed and it shall be forgiven him CHAP.
