XXX 1 Hezekiah proclaimeth a solemn pass-over on the second moneth for Judah and Israel 13 The assembly having destroyed the altars of idolatry keep the feast fourteen days 27 The priests and Levites bless the people ANd Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah and wrote letters also to Eparaim and Manasseh that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem to keep the pass-over unto the LORD God of Israel 2 For the king had taken counsel and his princes and all the congregation in Jerusalem to keep the pass-over in the second * Num. 9.10 11. moneth 3 For they could not keep it at that time because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem 4 And the thing † Heb. was right in the eyes of the king pleased the king and all the congregation 5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel from Beer sheba even to Dan that they should come to keep the pass-over unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written 6 So the posts went with the letters † Heb. from the ●●nd from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah and according to the commandment of the king saying Ye children of Israel turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham Isaac and Israel and he will return to the remnant of you that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria 7 And be not ye like your fathers and like your brethren which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers who therefore gave them up to desolation as ye see 8 Now † Heb. ●arden not your necks be ye not stiff-necked as your fathers were but † Heb. give the h●nd yeeld your selves unto the LORD and enter into his sanctuary which he hath sanctified for ever and serve the LORD your God that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you 9 For if ye turn again unto the LORD your brethren and your children shall finde compassion before them that lead them captive so that they shall come again into this land for the LORD your God is * Exod. 34.6 gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you if ye return unto him 10 So the posts passed from city to city through the countrey of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun but they laughed them to scorn and mocked them 11 Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem 12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by the word of the LORD 13 ¶ And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second moneth a very great congregation 14 And they arose and took away the * Chap. 28 24. altars that were in Jerusalem and all the altars for incense took they away and cast them into the brook Kidron 15 Then they killed the pass-over on the fourteenth day of the second moneth and the priests and the Levites were

the breast of the ram of Aarons consecrations and wave it for a wave-offering before the LORD and it shall be thy part 27 And thou shalt sanctifie the breast of the wave-offering and the shoulder of the heave-offering which is waved and which is heaved up of the ram of the consecration even of that which is for Aaron and of that which is for his sons 28 And it shall be Aarons and his sons by a statute for ever from the children of Israel for it is an heave-offering and it shall be an heave-offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace-offerings even their heave-offering unto the LORD 29 ¶ And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons after him to be anointed therein and to be consecrated in them 30 And † Heb. he of his sons that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congregation to minister in the holy place 31 ¶ And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration and seethe his flesh the bread remain unto the morning then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire it shall not be eaten because it is holy 35 And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron and to his sons according to all things which I have commanded thee seven days shalt thou consecrate them 36 And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin-offering for atonement and thou shalt cleanse the altar when thou hast made an atonement for it and thou shalt anoint it to sanctifie it 37 Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar and sanctifie it and it shall be an altar most holy whatsoever toucheth the altar XXX 1 The altar of incense 11 The ransom of souls 17 The brasen laver 22 The holy anointing oyl 34 The composition of the perfume ANd thou shalt make an altar to burn Incense upon of shittim-wood shalt thou make it 2 A cubit shall be the length thereof and a cubit the breadth thereof four-square shall it be and two cubits shall be the height thereof the horns thereof shall be of the same 3 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold the † Heb. roof top thereof and the † Heb. walls sides thereof round about and the horns thereof and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about 4 And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it by the two † Heb. ribs corners thereof upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withall 5 And thou shalt make the staves of shittim-wood and overlay them with gold 6 And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony before the mercy-seat that is over the testimony where I will meet with thee 7 And Aaron shall burn thereon † Heb. incense of spices sweet incense every morning when he dresseth the lamps he shall burn incense upon it 8 And when Aaron ‖ Or setteth up † Heb. causeth to ascend lighteth the lamps † Heb. between the two evens at even he shall burn incense upon it a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations 9 Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon nor burnt-sacrifice nor meat offering neither shall ye pour drink-offering thereon 10 And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin-offering of atonements once in the year shall he ma●● atonement upon it throughout your generations it is most holy unto the LORD 11 And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 12 * Num. 1.1.2 5. When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after † Heb. them that are to be numbred their number then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD when thou numbrest them that there be no plague amongst them when thou numbrest them 13 This they shall give every one that passeth among them that are numbred half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary * Lev. 27.25 Numb 3.47 Ezek. 45.12 A shekel is twenty gerahs an hall-shekel shall be the offering of the LORD 14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbred from twenty years old and above shall give an offering unto the LORD 15 The rich shall not † Heb. multiply give more and the poor shall not † Heb. diminish give less then hall a shekel when they give an offering unto the LORD to make an atonement for your souls 16 And thou shalt take the atonement-money of the children of Israel and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD to make an atonement for your souls 17 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 18 Thou shalt also make a laver of brass and his foot also of brass to wash withal and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar and thou shalt put water therein 19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands their feet thereat 20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation they shall wash with water that they die not or when they come near to the altar to minister to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD 21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet that they die not and it shall be a statute for e●er to them even to him and to his seed throughout their generations 22 ¶ Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses saying 23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices of pure myrrh five hundred shekels and of sweet cinnamon half so much even two hundred and fifty shekels and of sweet calamus two hundred fifty shekels 24 And of cassia five hundred shekels after the shekel of the sanctuary and of oyl-olive an * Chap. ● 29.40 hin 25 And thou shalt make it an oyl of holy ointment an ointment compound after the art of the ‖ Or perfumer apothecary it shall be an holy anointing oyl 26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith and the ark of the testimony 27 And the table and all his vessels and the candlestick and his vessels and the altar of incense 28 And the altar of burnt-offering with all his vessels and the laver and his foot 29 And thou shalt sanctifie them that they may be most holy whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy 30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them that they may minister unto me in the priests office 31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel saying This shall be an holy anointing oyl unto me throughout your generations 32 Upon mans flesh shall it not be poured neither shall ye make any other like it after the composition of it it is holy and it shall be holy unto you 33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger shall even be cut off from his people 34 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Take unto thee sweet spices stacte and onycha and galbanum these sweet spices with pure frankincense of each shall there be a like weight 35 And thou shalt make it a perfume a confection after the art of the apothecary † Heb. s●ited tempered together pure and holy 36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation where I will meet with thee it shall be unto you most holy 37 And as for the perfume which thou shalt make you shall not make to your selves according to the composition thereof it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD 38 Whosoever shall make like unto
congregation 22 for the ruler 27 for any of the people ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel saying If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done and shall do against any of them 3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people then let him bring for his sin which he hath sinned a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin-offering 4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD and shall lay his hand upon the bullocks head and kill the bullock before the LORD 5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullocks bloud and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation 6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the bloud and sprinkle of the bloud seven times before the LORD before the vail of the sanctuary 7 And the priest shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD which is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour * Chap. ● ● all the bloud of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 8 And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin-offering the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 9 And the two kidneys the fat that is upon them which is by the flanks and the caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt-offering 11 * Exod. 29.14 Num. 19.5 And the skin of the bullock and all his flesh with his head and with his legs and his inwards and his dung 12 Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth † Heb. to without the camp without the camp unto a clean place where the ashes are poured out and * Heb. 13.11 burn him on the wood with fire † Heb. at the pouring out of the ashes where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt 13 ¶ And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance * Chap. 5.2.3 4. and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done and are guilty 14 When the sin which they have sinned against it is known then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD and the bullock shall be killed before the LORD 16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullocks bloud to the tabernacle of the congregation 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the bloud and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD even before the vail 18 And he shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD that is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour out all the bloud at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 19 And he shall take all his fat from him and burn it upon the altar 20 And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin-offering so shall he do with this and the priest shall make an atonement for them and it shall be forgiven them 21 And he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp and burn him as he burned the first bullock it is a sin-offering for the congregation 22 ¶ When a ruler hath sinned and done somewhat through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD his God concerning things which should not be done and is guilty 23 Or if his sin wherein he hath sinned come to his knowledge he shall bring his offering a kid of the goats a male without blemish 24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD it is a sin-offering 25 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out his bloud at the bottom of the altar of burnt-offering 26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar as the fat of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin and it shall be forgiven him 27 ¶ And if † Heb. any soul any one of the † Heb. people of the land common people sin through ignorance while he doth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done and be guilty 28 Or if his sin which he hath sinned come to his knowledge then he shall bring his offering a kid of the goats a female without blemish for his sin which he hath sinned 29 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin-offering and slay the sin-offering in the place of the burnt-offering 30 And the priest shall take of the bloud thereof with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out all the bloud thereof at the bottom of the altar 31 And * Chap. 2.14 he shall take away all the fat thereof as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a * Exod. 29.18 sweet savour unto the LORD and the priest shall make an atonement for him and it shall be forgiven him 32 And if he bring a lamb for a sin-offering he shall bring it a female without blemish 33 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin-offering and slay it for a sin-offering in the place where they kill the burnt-offering 34 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out all the bloud thereof at the bottom of the altar 35 And he shall take away all the fat thereof as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed and it shall be forgiven him CHAP. V. 1 He that sinneth in concealing his knowledge 2 in touching an
unclean thing 4 or in making an oath 6 His trespass-offering of the flock 7 of fowls 11 or of flour 14 The trespass-offering in sacriledge 17 and in sins of ignorance ANd if a soul sin and hear the voice of swearing and is a witness whether he hath seen or known of it if he do not utter it then he shall bear his iniquity 2 Or if a soul touch any unclean thing whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast or a carcase of unclean cattel or the carcase of unclean creeping things and if it be hidden from him he also shall be unclean and guilty 3 Or if he touch the uncleanness of man whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal and it be hid from him when he knoweth of it then he shall be guilty 4 Or if a soul swear pronouncing with his lips to do evil or to do good whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath and it be hid from him when he knoweth of it then he shall be guilty in one of these 5 And it shall be when he shall be guilty in one of these things that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing 6 And he shall bring his trespass-offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned a female from the flock a lamb or a kid of the goats for a sin offering and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin 7 And if † Heb. his hand cannot reach to the sufficiency of a lamb he be not able to bring a lamb then he shall bring for his trespass which he hath committed two turtle-doves or two young pigeons unto the LORD one for a sin-offering and the other for a burnt-offering 8 And he shall bring them unto the priest who shall offer that which is for the sin-offering first and * Ch. 1.15 wring off his head from his neck but shall not divide it asunder 9 And he shall sprinkle of the bloud of the sin-offering upon the side of the altar and the rest of the bloud shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar it is a sin-offering 10 And he shall offer the second for a burnt-offering according to the ‖ Or ordinance manner and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he had sinned and it shall be forgiven him 11 ¶ But if he be not able to bring two turtle-doves or two young pigeons then he that sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin-offering he shall put no oyl upon it neither shall he put any frankincense thereon for it is a sin-offering 12 Then shall he bring it to the priest and the priest shall take his handful of it * Ch. 2.2 even a memorial thereof and burn it on the altar * Ch. 4.35 according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD it is a sin-offering 13 And the priest shall make an atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in one of these and it shall be forgiven him and the remnant shall be the priests as a meat-offering 14 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 15 If a soul commit a trespass and sin through ignorance in the holy things of the LORD then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blem●sh out of the flocks with thy estimation by shekels of silver after the shekel of the sanctuary for a trespass offering 16 And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done in the holy thing and shall add the fifth part thereto and give it unto the priest and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering and it shall be forgiven him 17 ¶ And if a * Chap. ● 2 soul sin and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD though he wist it not yet is he guilty and shall bear his iniquity 18 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock with thy estimation for a trespass offering unto the priest and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not and it shall be forgiven him 10 It is a trespass offering he hath certainly trespassed against the LORD CHAP. VI. 1 The trespass-offering for sins done wittingly 8 The law of the burnt-offering 14 and of the meat-offering 19 The offering at the consecration of a priest 24 The law of the sin-offering ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 If a soul sin and commit a trespass against the LORD and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep or in ‖ Or 〈◊〉 ●●a●ing † Heb. putting of the hand fellowship or in a thing taken away by violence or hath deceived his neighbour 3 Or have found that which was lost and lieth concerning it and * Numb 5.6 sweareth fal●ly in any of all these that a man doeth sinning therein 4 Then it shall be because he hath sinned and is guilty that he shall restore that which he took violently away or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten or that which was delivered him to keep or the lost thing which he found 5 Or all that about which he hath sworn falsly he shall even * Chap 5.16 restore it in the principal and shall add the fifth part more thereto and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth ‖ Or in the day of his being found guilty † Heb. in the day of his trespas● in the day of his trespass-offering 6 And he shall bring his trespass-offering unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the * Ch. 5.15 flock with thy estimation for a trespass-offering unto the priest 7 And the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD and it shall be forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in trespassing therein 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 9 Command Aaron and his sons saying This is the law of the burnt-offering It is the burnt-offering ‖ Or for the burning because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the morning the fire of the altar shall be burning in it 10 And the priest shall put on his linen garment and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt-offering on the altar and he shall put them besides the altar 11 And he shall put off his garments and put on other garments and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place 12 And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it it shall not be put out and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning and lay the burnt-offering in order upon it and he shall burn thereon

VII 1 The law of the trespass-offering 11 and of the peace-offerings 12 whether it be for a thanksgiving 16 or a vow or a free-will-offering 22 The fat 26 and the bloud are forbidden 28 The priests portion in the peace-off●rings LIkewise this is the law of the trespass-offering it is most holy 2 In the place where they kill the burnt-offering shall they kill the trespass-offering and the bloud thereof shall he sprinkle round about upon the altar 3 And he shall offer of it all the fat thereof the rump and the fat that covereth the inwards 4 And the two kidneys and the fat that is on them which is by the flanks and the caul that is above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 5 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar for an offering made by fire unto the LORD it is a trespass-offering 6 Every male among the priests shall eat thereof it shall be eaten in the holy place it is most holy 7 As the sin-offering is so is the trespass-offering there is one law for them the priest that maketh atonement therewith shall have it 8 And the priest that offereth any mans burnt-offering even the priest shall have to himself the skin of the burnt-offering which he hath offered 9 And all the meat-offering that is baken in the oven and all that is dressed in the frying-pan and ‖ Or on the flat plate or slice in the pan shall be the priests that offereth it 10 And every meat-offering mingled with oyl and dry shall all the sons of Aaron have one as much as another 11 And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace-offerings which he shall offer unto the LORD 12 If he offer it for a thanksgiving then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oyl and unleavened wafers anointed with oyl and cakes mingled with oyl of fine flour fryed 13 Besides the cakes he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace-offerings 14 And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for an heave-offering unto the LORD and it shall be the priests that sprinkleth the bloud of the peace-offerings 15 And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace-offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered he shall not leave any of it until the morning 16 But if the sacrifice of his offering be a vow or a voluntary offering it shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice and on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten 17 But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire 18 And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace-offerings be eaten at all on the third day it shall not be accepted neither shall it be imputed unto him that offereth it it shall be an abomination and the soul that eateth of it shall bear his iniquity 19 And the flesh that toucheth any unclean thing shall not be eaten it shall be burnt with fire and as for the flesh all that be clean shall eat thereof 20 But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace-offerings that pertain unto the LORD * Chap 15.3 having his uncleanness upon him even that soul shall be cut off from his people 21 Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing as the uncleanness of man or any unclean beast or any abominable unclean thing and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace-offerings which pertain unto the LORD even that soul shall be cut off from his people 22 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 23 Speak unto the children of Israel saying * Chap. 3.17 Ye shall eat no manner fat of ox or of sheep or of goat 24 And the fat of the

IX 1 The first offerings of Aaron for himself and the people 8 The sin-offering 12 and the burnt-offering for himself 15 The offerings for the people 23 Moses and Aaron bless the people 24 Fire cometh from the Lord upon the altar ANd it came to pass on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel 2 And he said unto Aaron * Ex. 29.1 Take thee a young call for a sin-offering and a ram for a burnt-offering without blemish and offer them before the LORD 3 And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak saying Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin-offering and a calf and a lamb both of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering 4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace-offerings to sacrifice before the LORD and a meat-offering mingled with oyl for to day the LORD will appear unto you 5 ¶ And they brought that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD 6 And Moses said This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you 7 And Moses said unto Aaron Go unto the altar and offer thy sin-offering and thy burnt-offering and make an atonement for thy self and for the people and offer the offering of the people and make an atonement for them as the LORD commanded 8 ¶ Aaron therefore went unto the altar and slew the calf of the sin-offering which was for himself 9 And the sons of Aaron brought the bloud unto him and he dipt his finger in the bloud and put it upon the horns of the altar and poured out the bloud at the bottom of the altar 10 But the fat and the kidneys and the caul above the liver of the sin-offering he burnt upon the altar as the LORD commanded Moses 11 And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp 12 And he slew the burnt-offering and Aarons sons presented unto him the bloud which he sprinkled round about upon the altar 13 And they presented the burnt-offering unto him with the pieces thereof and the head and he burnt them upon the altar 14 And he did wash the inwards and the legs and burnt them upon the burnt-offering on the altar 15 ¶ And he brought the peoples offering and took the goat which was the sin offering for the people and slew it and offered it for sin as the first 16 And he brought the burnt-offering and offered it according to the ‖ Or ordinance manner 17 And he brought the meat-offering and † Heb. filled his hand out of it took an handful thereof and burnt it upon the altar * Ex. 39.38 beside the burnt-sacrifice of the morning 18 He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace-offerings which was for the people and Aarons sons presented unto him the bloud which he sprinkled upon the altar round about 19 And the fat of the bullock and of the ram the rump and that which covereth the inwards and the kidneys and the caul above the liver 20 And they put the fat upon the breasts he burnt the fat upon the altar 21 And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave-offering before the LORD as Moses commanded 22 And Aaron lift up his hand towards the people and blessed them and came down from offering of the sin-offering and the burnt-offering and peace-offerings 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation and came out and blessed the people and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people 24 And * Gen. 4.4 1 Kin. 18.38 2 Chro. 7.1 2 Mac. 2.10 11. there came a fire out from before the LORD and consumed upon the altar the burnt-offering and the fat which when all the people saw they shouted and tell on their faces CHAP. whole house of Israel bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled 7 And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation lest you die for the anointing oyl of the LORD is upon you And they did according to the word of Moses 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Aaron saying 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink thou nor thy sons with thee when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation lest ye die It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations 10 And that ye may put difference between ho●y and unholy and between unclean and clean 11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses 12 ¶ And Moses spake unto Aaron and unto Eleazar and unto Itham●r his sons that were left Take the meat-offering that remaineth of the offerings of the LORD made by fire and eat it without leaven beside the altar for it is most holy 13 And ye shall eat it in the holy place because it is thy due and thy son● due of the sacrifices of the LORD made by fire for so I am command●d 14 And * Exod. ●9 24 the wave-breast and heave-shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place thou and thy sons and thy daughters with thee for they be thy due and thy sons due which are given out of the sacrifices of peace-offerings of the children of Israel 15 The heave-shoulder and the wave-breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat to wave it for a wave-offering before the LORD and it shall be thine and thy sons with thee by a statute for ever as the LORD hath commanded 16 ¶ And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering and behold it was burnt and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron which were left alive saying 17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place seeing it is most holy and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation to make atonement for them before the LORD 18 Behold the bloud of it was not brought in within the holy place ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place * Chap. 6.26 as I commanded 19 And Aaron said unto Moses Behold this day have they offered their sin-offering and their burnt-offering before the LORD and such things have befallen me and if I had eaten the sin-offering to day should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD 20 And when Moses heard that he was content CHAP. XI 1 What beasts may 4 and what may not be eaten 9 What fishes 13 What fowls 29 The creeping things which are unclean ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron saying unto them 2 Speak unto the children of Israel saying * Deu. 14.4 Act. 10 1● These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth 3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof and is cloven-footed and cheweth the cud among the beasts that shall ye eat 4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud or of them that divide the hoof as the camel because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean to you 5 And the coney because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean unto you 6 And the hare because he cheweth the cud but divideth not the hoof he is unclean unto you 7 And * 2 Ma● 6.18 the swine though he divide the hoof and be cloven-footed yet he cheweth not the cud he is unclean to you 8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat and their carcase shall ye not touch they are unclean to you 9 ¶ These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters whatsoever hath fins scales in the waters in the seas in the rivers them shall ye eat 10 And all that have not fins nor scales in the seas and in the rivers of all that move in the waters and of any living thing which is in the waters they shall be an abomination unto you 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you ye shall not eat of their flesh but you shall have their carcases in abomination 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters that shall be an abomination unto you 13 ¶ And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls they shall not be eaten they are an abomination the eagle and the ossifrage and the ospray 14 And the vulture and the kite after his kinde 15 Every raven after his kinde 16 And the owl and the night-hauk and the cuckow and the hauk after his kinde 17 And the little owl and the cormorant and the great owl 18 And the swan and the pelican and the gier-eagle 19 And the stork and the heron after her kinde and the lapwing and the bat 20 All fowls that creep going upon all four shall be an abomination unto you 21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four which have legs above their feet to leap withal upon the earth 22 Even these of them ye may eat the locust after his kinde and the bald locust after his kinde and the beetle after his kinde and the grashopper after his kinde 23 But all other flying creeping things which have four feet shall be an abomination unto you 24 And for these ye shall be unclean whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even 25 And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even 26 The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof and is not cloven-footed nor cheweth the cud are unclean unto you every one that toucheth them shall be unclean 27 And whatsoever goeth upon his paws among all manner of beasts that go on all four those are unclean unto you whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even 28 And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even they are unclean unto you 29 ¶ These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth the weasel and the mouse and the tortoise after his kinde 30 And the ferret and the chameleon and the lyzard and the snail and the mole 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep whosoever doth touch them when they be dead shall be unclean until the even 32 And upon whatsoever any of them when they are dead doth fall it shall be unclean whether it be any vessel of wood or raiment or skin or sack whatsoever vessel it be wherein any work is done it must be put into water and it shall be unclean until the even so it shall be cleansed 33 And every earthen vessel whereinto any of them falleth whatsoever is in it shall
and behold if the plague have not changed his colour and the plague be not spread it is unclean thou shalt burn it in the fire it is fret inward † Heb. whether it be bald in the head thereof or in the forehead thereof whether it be bare within or without 56 And if the priest look and behold the plague be somewhat dark after the washing of it then he shall rend it out of the garment or out of the skin or out of the warp or out of the woof 57 And if it appear still in the garment either in the warp or in the woof or in any thing of skin it is a spreading plague thou shalt burn that wherein the plague is with fire 58 And the garment either warp or woof or whatsoever thing of skin it be which thou shalt wash if the plague be departed from them then it shall be washed the second time and shall be clean 59 This is the law of the plague of leprosie in a garment of woollen or linen either in the warp or woof or any thing of skins to pronounce it clean or to pronounce it unclean CHAP. XIV 1 The rites and sacrifices in cleansing of the leper 33 The signs of leprosie in an house 48 The cleansing of that house ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing He * Mat. 8.2 Ma● ● 40 Luk. 5.12 shall be brought unto the priest 3 And the priest shall go forth out of the camp and the priest shall look and behold if the plague of leprosie be healed in the leper 4 Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two ‖ Or sparrows birds alive and clean and cedar wood and scarlet and hyssop 5 And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water 6 As for the living bird he shall take it and the cedar-wood and the scarlet and the hyssop and shall dip them and the living bird in the bloud of the bird that was killed over the running water 7 And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosie seven times and shall pronounce him clean and shall let the living bird loose † Heb. upon the face of the field into the open field 8 And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes shave off all his hair and wash himself in water that he may be clean and after that he shall come into the camp shall tarry abroad out of his tent seven days 9 But it shall be on the seventh day that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eye-brows even all his hair he shall shave off and he shall wash his clothes also he shall wash his flesh in water and he shall be clean 10 And on the eighth day he shall take two he-lambs without blemish and one ew-lamb † Heb. the daughter of her year of the first year without blemish and three tenth-deals of fine flour for a meat offering mingled with oyl one log of oyl 11 And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean and those things before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 12 And the priest shall take one he-lamb and offer him for a trespass-offering and the log of oyl and * Exod. 29.24 wave them for a wave-offering before the LORD 13 And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin-offering and the burnt-offering in the holy place for * Chap. 7.7 as the sin-offering is the priests so is the trespass offering it is most holy 14 And the priest shall take some of the bloud of the trespass-offering and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed and upon the thumb of his right hand and upon the great toe of his right foot 15 And the priest shall take some of the log of oyl and pour it into the palm of his own left hand 16 And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oyl that is in his left hand shal sprinkle of the oyl with his finger seven times before the LORD 17 And of the rest of the oyl that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed and upon the thumb of his right hand and upon the great toe of his right foot upon the bloud of the trespass-offering 18 And the remnant of the oyl that is in the priests hand he shall pour upon the head of him that is to be cleansed and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD 19 And the priest shall offer the sin-offering and make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed from his uncleanness and afterward he shall kill the burnt-offering 20 And the priest shall offer the burnt-offering and the meat offering upon the altar and the priest shall make an atonement for him and he shall be clean 21 And if he be poor and † Heb. his hand reach not cannot get so much then he shall take one lamb for a trespass-offering † Heb. for a waving to be waved to make an atonement for him and one tenth-deal of fine flour mingled with oyl for a meat-offering and a log of oyl 22 And two turtle-doves or two young pigeons such as he is able to get and the one shall be a sin-offering and the other a burnt-offering 23 And he shall bring them on the eighth day for his cleansing unto the priest unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD 24 And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass-offering the log of oyl and the priest shall wave them for a wave-offering before the LORD 25 And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass-offering and the priest shall take some of the bloud of the trespass-offering and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed and upon the great toe of his right foot 26 And the priest shall pour of the oyl into the palm of his own left hand 27 And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oyl that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD 28 And the priest shall put of the oyl that is in his hand XXII 1 The priests in their uncleanness must abstain from the holy things 6 How they shall be cleansed 10 Who of the priests house may eat of the holy things 17 The sacrifices must be without blemish 26 The age of the sacrifice 29 The law of eating the sacrifice of thanksgiving ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me I am the LORD 3 Say unto them Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations that goeth unto the holy things which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD having his uncleanness upon him that soul shall be cut off from my presence I am the LORD 4 What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper or hath * Chap. 15.2 a † Heb. running of the reins running issue he shall not eat of the holy things until he be clean And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead or a man whose seed goeth from him 5 Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing whereby he may be made unclean or a man of whom he may take uncleanness whatsoever uncleanness he hath 6 The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even and shall not eat of the holy things unless he wash his flesh with water

unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho saying 2 * Josh 21. ● Command the children of Israel that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them 3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattel and for their goods and for all their beasts 4 And the suburbs of the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about 5 And ye shall measure from his refuge whether he was fled 27 And the revenger of bloud finde him without the borders of the city of his refuge and the revenger of bloud kill the slayer † Heb. no bloud shall be to him he shall not be guilty of bloud 28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of XVIII 1 The Lord is the priests and Levites inheritance 3 The priests due 6 The Levites portion 9 The abominations of the nations are to be avoided 15 Christ the Prophet is to be heard 20 The presumptuous prophet is to die THe priests the Levites and all the tribe of Levi * Numb 18.20 Chap. 10.9 shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel they * 1 Cor. 9.13 shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire and his inheritance 2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren the LORD is their inheritance as he hath said unto them 3 ¶ And this shall be the priests due from the people from them that offer a sacrifice whether it be ox or sheep and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder and the two chee●s and the maw 4 The first-fruit also of thy corn of thy wine and of thy oyl and the first of the fleece of thy sheep shalt thou give him 5 For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes to stand to minister in the name of the LORD him and his sons for ever 6 ¶ And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel where he sojourned and come with all the desire of his minde unto the place which the LORD shall choose 7 Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God as all his brethren the Levites do which stand there before the LORD 8 They shall
¶ And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria and saw an altar that was at Damascus and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar and the pattern of it according to all the workmanship thereof 11 And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus so Urijah the priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus 12 And when the king was come from Damascus the king saw the altar and the king approached to the altar and offered thereon 13 And he burnt his burnt-offering and his meat-offering and poured his drink-offering and sprinkled the bloud of † Heb. which were his his peace-offerings upon the altar 14 And he brought also the brasen altar which was before the LORD from the forefront of the house from between the altar and the house of the LORD and put it on the north-side of the altar 15 And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest saying Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt-offering and the evening meat-offering and the kings burnt-sacrifice and his meat-offering with the burnt-offering of all the people of the land and their meat-offering and their dring-offerings and sprinkle upon it all the bloud of the burnt-offering and all the bloud of the sacrifice and the brasen altar shall be for me to enquire by 16 Thus did Urijah the priest according to all that king Ahaz commanded 17 ¶ And king Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases and removed the laver from off them and took down the sea from off the brasen oxen that were under it and put it upon a pavement of stones 18 And the covert for the sabbath that they had built in the house and the kings entry without turned he from the house of the LORD for the king of Assyria 19 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah 20 And Ahaz slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead CHAP. XVII 1 Hoshea his wicked reign 3 Being subdued by Shalmaneser he conspireth against him with So king of Egypt 5 Samaria for their sins is captivated 24 The strange nations which were transplanted in Samaria being plagued with lions make a mixture of religions IN the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD but not as the kings of Israel that were before him 3 ¶ Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria and Hoshea became his servant and † Heb. rendres gave him a presents 4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt ‖ Or tribute and brought no present to the king of Assyria as he had done year by year therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison 5 ¶ Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land and went up to Samaria and besieged it three years 6 ¶ * Chap. 18.10 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away into Assyria and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes 7 For so it was that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Paraoh king of Egypt and had feared other gods 8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel and of the kings of Israel which they had made 9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God and they built them high places in all their cities from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city 10 And they set them up † Heb. statute images and groves in every high hill and under every green tree 11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger 12 For they served idols whereof the LORD had said unto them * Deut. 4.10 Ye shall not do this thing 13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel and against Judah † Heb. be the hand of all by all the prophets and by all the seers saying * Jer. 18.11 and 25.5 and 35.15 Turn ye from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes according to all the law which I commanded your fathers and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets 14 Notwithstanding they would not hear but * Deut. 31.27 hardened their necks like to the neck of their fathers that did not beleeve in the LORD their God 15 And they rejected his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and his testimonies which he testified against them and they followed vanity and became vain and went after the heathen that were round about them concerning whom the LORD had charged them that they should not do like them 16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God and * Exod. 32.8 1 King 12.28 made them molten images even two calves and made a grove and worshipped all the host of heaven and served Baal 17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and used divination and enchantments and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD to provoke him to anger 18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight there was none left but the tribe of Judah onely 19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made 20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel and afflicted them and delivered them into the hand of spoilers until he had cast them out of his sight 21 For the rent Israel from the house of David and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD and made them sin a great sin 22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did they departed not from them 23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight as he had said by all his servants the prophets So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day 24 ¶ And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon and from Cuthah and from Ava and from Hamath and from Sepharvaim and placed them in the cities of Samaria in stead of the children of Israel and they possessed Samaria and dwelt
entring in of the gate of Samaria and all the prophets prophesied before them 10 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron and said Thus saith the LORD With these thou shalt push Syria until † Heb. thou consume them they be consumed 11 And all the prophets prophesied so saying Go up to Ramoth-gilead and prosper for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king 12 And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him saying Behold the words of the prophets declare good to the king † Heb. with on● mouth with one assent let thy word therefore I pray thee be like one of theirs and speak thou good 13 And Micaiah said As the LORD liveth even what my God saith that will I speak 14 And when he was come to the king the king said unto him Micaiah shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battel or shall I forhear And he said Go ye up prosper they shall be delivered into your hand 15 And the king said to him How many times shall I adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD 16 Then he said I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains as sheep that have no shepherd and the LORD said These have no master let them return therefore every man to his house in peace 17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesie good unto me ‖ Or but for evil but evil 18 Again he said Therefore hear the word of the LORD I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left 19 And the LORD said Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead And one spake saying after this manner and another saying after that manner 20 Then there came out a * Job 1.6 spirit and stood before the LORD and said I will entice him And the LORD said unto him Wherewith 21 And he said I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets And the LORD said Thou shalt entice him and thou shalt also prevail go out and do even so 22 Now therefore behold the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee 23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and smote Micaiah upon the cheek and said Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee 24 And Micaiah said Behold thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go ‖ Or from chamber to chamber into † Heb. a chamber in a chamber an inner chamber to hide thy self 25 Then the king of Israel said Take ye Micaiah and carry him back to Amon the governour of the city and to Joash the kings son 26 And say Thus saith the king Put this fellow in the prison and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction until I return in peace 27 And Micaiah said If thou certainly return in peace then hath not the LORD spoken by me And he said Hearken all ye people 28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead 29 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat I will disguise my self and will go to the battel but put thou on thy robes So the king of Israel disguised himself and they went to the battel 30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him saying Fight ye not with small or great save onely with the king of Israel 31 And it came to pass when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat that they said It is the king of Israel therefore they compassed about him to sight but Jehoshaphat cried out and the LORD helped him and God moved them to depart from him 32 For it came to pass that when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel they turned back again † Heb. from after him from pursuing him 33 And a certain man drew a bowe † Heb. in his simplicity at a venture and smore the king of Israel † Heb. between the joynts and between the b●●a●-plate between the joynts of the harness therefore he said to his chariot-man Turn thine hand that thou mayest carry me out of the host for I am † Heb. wa●e sick wounded 34 And the battel increased that day howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even and about the time of the sun going down he died CHAP. XIX 1 Jehoshaphat reproved by Jehu visiteth his kingdom 5 His instructions to the judges 8 to the priests and Levites ANd Jehoshaphat the King of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to king Jehoshaphat Shouldest thou help the ungodly and love them that hate the LORD therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD 3 Nevertheless there are * Chap. 17.1 6. good things found in thee in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land and hast prepared thine heart to seek God 4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem and † Heb. he returned and went out he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers 5 ¶ And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah city by city 6 And said to the judges Take heed what ye do for ye judge not for man but for the LORD who is with you † Heb. in the matter of judgement in the judgement 7 Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you take heed and do it for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God nor * Deu. 10.17 Job 34.19 Act. 10.34 Rom. 2.11 Eph. 6.9 Col. 3.25 1 ●ct 1.17 respect of persons nor taking of gifts 8 ¶ Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites and of the priests and of the chief of the fathers of Israel for the judgement of the LORD and for controversies when they returned to Jerusalem 9 And he charged them saying Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD faithfully and with a perfect heart 10 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities between bloud and bloud between law and commandment statutes and judgements ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren this do and ye shall not trespass 11 And behold Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael the ruler of the house
he gathered together the priests and the Levites and said to them Go out unto the cities of Judah and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year and see that ye haste the matter howbeit the Levites hastned it not 6 And the king called for Jehoiada the chief and said unto him Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection according to the commandment of * Ex. 30 12.13 14. Moses the servant of the LORD and of the congregation of Israel for the tabernacle of witness 7 For the sons of Athaliah that wicked woman had broken up the house of God and also all the dedicate things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim 8 And at the kings commandment they made a chest and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD 9 And they made † Heb. a voice a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness 10 And all the princes and all the people rejoyced and brought in and cast into the chest until they had made an end 11 Now it came to pass that at what time the chest was brought unto the kings office by the hand of the Levites and when they saw that there was much money the kings scribe and the high priests officer came and emptied the chest and took it and carried it to his place again Thus they did day by day and gathered money in abundance 12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD 13 So the workmen wrought and † Heb. the healing went upon the work the work was perfected by them and they set the house of God in his state and strengthned it 14 And when they had finished it they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD even vessels to minister and ‖ Or pes●●●s to offer withal and spoons and vessels of gold and silver and they offered burnt-offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada 15 ¶ But Jehoiada waxed old and was full of days when he died an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died 16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings because he had done good in Israel both towards God and towards his house 17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah and made obeysance to the king then the king hearkned unto them 18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers and served groves and idols and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass 19 Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again unto the LORD and they testified against them but they would not give ear 20 And the spirit of God ‡ Heb. clothed came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest which stood above the people and said unto them Thus saith God Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD that ye cannot prosper because ye have forsaken the LORD he hath also forsaken you 21 And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD 22 Thus Joash the king remembred not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him but slew his son and when he died he said The LORD look upon it and require it 23 ¶ And it came to pass † Heb in the revolution of the Jur. at the end of the year that the host of Syria came up against him and they came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of † Heb. Darmesek Damascus 24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers so they executed judgement against Joain 25 And when they were departed from him for they left him in great diseases his own servants conspired against him for the bloud of the sons of Jehoiada the priest and slew him on his bed and he died and they buried him in the city of David but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings 26 And these are they that conspired against him ‖ Or Jozachar 2 King 12.21 Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess and Jehozabad the son of ‖ Or S●omer Shimrith a Moabitess 27 ¶ Now concerning his sons and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him and the † Heb. s●unding repairing of the house behold they are written in the ‖ Or commentery story of the book of the kings And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead CHAP. XXV 1 Amaziah beginneth to reign well 3 He executeth justice on the traitours 5 Having hired an army of Israelites against the Edomites at the word of a prophet he loseth the hundred talents and dismisseth them 11 He overthroweth the Edomites 10 13 The Israelites discontented with their dismission spoil as they return home 14 Amaziah proud of his victory serveth the gods of Edom and despiseth the admonitions of the prophet 17 He provoketh Joash to his overthrow 25 His reign 27 He is slain by conspiracy AMaziah * Kin. 14.1 c. was twenty and five years old when he began to reign and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem and his mothers name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD but not with a perfect heart 3 ¶ Now it came to pass when the kingdom was † Heb. confirmed upon him established to him that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father 4 But he slew not their children but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses where the LORD commanded saying * Deut. 24.16 2 Kin. 14.6 Jer. 31.30 Ezek 18.20 The fathers shall not die for the children neither shall the children die for the fathers but every man shall die for his own sin 5 ¶ Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together and made them captains over thousands and captains over hundreds according to the houses of their fathers throughout all Judah and Benjamin and he numbred them from twenty years old and above and found them three hundred thousand choice men able to go forth to war that could handle spear and shield 6 He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for

XXVI 1 Jeremiah by promises and threatnings exhorteth to repentants 8 He is therefore apprehended 10 and arraigned 11 His apology 16 He is quit in judgement by the example of Mi●ah 20 and of Vrijah 24 and by the care of Ahikans IN the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD saying 2 Thus saith the LORD Stand in the court of the LORDS house and speak unto all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the LORDS house all the words that I command thee to speak unto them * Act. ●0 27 diminish not a word 3 If so be they will hearken and turn every man from his evil way that I may * Ch. 18.8 repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings 4 And thou shalt say unto them Thus saith the LORD If ye will not hearken to me to walk in my law which I have set before you 5 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent unto you both rising up early and sending them but ye have not hearkned 6 Then will I make this house like * 1 Sa. 4.12 Ps 78.60 Ch. 7.12 14 Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth 7 So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD 8 ¶ Now it came to pass when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him saying Thou shalt surely die 9 Why halt thou prophesied in the name of the LORD saying This house shall be like Shiloh and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant and all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD 10 ¶ When the princes of Judah heard these things then they came up from the kings house unto the house of the LORD and sat down ‖ Or at the door in the entry of the new gate of the LORDS house 11 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people saying † Heb. The judgement of death is for this man This man is worthy to die for he hath prophesied against this city as ye have heard with your ears 12 ¶ Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people saying The LORD sent me to prophesie against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard 13 Therefore now * Ch. 7.3 amend your ways and your doings and obey the voice of the LORD your God and the LORD will * Ver. 19. repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you 14 As for me behold I am in your hand do with me † Heb. as it is good and right in your eyes as seemeth good and meet unto you 15 But know ye for certain that if ye put me to death ye shall surely bring innocent bloud upon your selves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants thereof for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears 16 ¶ Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets This man is not worthy to die for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God 17 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land and spake to all the assembly of the people saying 18 * Mic. 1.1 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spake to all the people of Judah saying Thus saith the LORD of hosts * Mic. 3.12 Zion shall be plowed like a field and Jerusalem shall become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death did he not fear the LORD and besought † Heb. the face of the LORD the LORD and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them Thus might we procure great evil against our souls 20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah 21 And when Jehoiakim the king with all his mighty men and all the princes heard his words the king sought to put him to death but when Urijah heard it he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt 22 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt namely Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him into Egypt 23 And they fet forth Urijah out of Egypt and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the †

XXII 1 A catalogue of sins in Jerusalem 13 God will burn them as dross in his furnace 23 The general corruption of prophets priests princes and people MOreover the word of the LORD came unto me saying 2 Now thou son of man * Ch. 2● 4 23.35 wilt thou ‖ Or plead for judge wilt thou judge the † Heb. city of blou●s bloudy city yea thou shalt † Heb. make her know shew her all her abominations 3 Then say thou Thus saith the Lord GOD The city sheddeth bloud in the midst of it that her time may come and maketh idols against her self to desile her self 4 Thou art become guilty in thy bloud that thou hast * 2 King 21.16 shed and hast desiled thy self in thine idols which thou hast made and thou hast caused thy days to draw near and art come even unto thy years therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen and a mocking to all countreys 5 Those that be near and those that be far from thee shall mock thee which art † Heb. polluted of name must in vexation infamious and much vexed 6 Behold the princes of Israel every one were in thee to their † Heb. arm power to shed bloud 7 In thee have they set light by father and mother in the midst of thee have they dealt by ‖ Or deceit oppression with the stranger in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow 8 Thou hast despised mine holy things and hast profaned my sabbaths 9 In thee are † Heb. men of standers men that carry tales to shed bloud and in thee they eat upon the mountains in the midst of thee they commit lewdness 10 In thee have they * Lev. 18.8 20.11 discovered their fathers nakedness in thee have they humbled her that was greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion and hast forgotten me saith the Lord GOD. 13 ¶ Behold therefore I have * Ch. 21.17 smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made and at thy bloud which hath been in the midst of thee 14 Can thine heart endure or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee I the LORD have spoken it and will do it 15 And I will scatter thee among the heathen and disperse thee in the countreys and will consume thy filthiness out of thee 16 And thou ‖ Or shalt 〈◊〉 profa●ed shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen and thou shalt know that I am the LORD 17 And the word of the LORD came unto me saying 18 Son of man the house of Israel is to me become dross all they are brass and tin and iron and lead in the midst of the furnace they are even the † Heb. ●●●sses dross of silver 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD Because ye are all become dro●● behold therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem 20 † Heb. according to the gathering As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the ●urnace to blow the fire upon it to melt it so will I gather you in mine anger and in my fury and I will leave you there and melt you 21 Yea I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof 22 As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you 23 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me saying 24 Son of man say unto her Thou art the land that is not cleansed nor rained upon in the day of indignation 25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof like a roaring lion ravening the prey they * Matth. 23.14 have devoured souls they have taken the treasure and precious things they have made her many widows in the midst thereof 26 Her priests have † Heb. offered violence to violated my law and have profaned mine holy things they have put no difference between the holy and profane neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths and I am profaned among them 27 Her * Mic. 3.11 Zeph. ● 3 princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey to shed bloud and to destroy souls to get dishonest gain 28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter seeing vanity and divining lies unto them saying Thus saith the Lord GOD when the LORD hath not spoken 29 The people of the land have used ‖ Or ●eceit oppression and exercised robbery and have vexed the poor and needy yea they have oppressed the stranger † Heb. without right wrongfully 30 And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land that I should not destroy it but I found none 31 Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath their own way have I recompensed upon their heads saith the Lord GOD. CHAP. XXIII 1 The whoredoms of Abolab and Abolibab 22 Abolibab is to be plagued by her lovers 3● The prophet reproveth the adulteries of them both 45 and sheweth their judgements THe word of the LORD came again unto me saying 2 Son of man there were two women the daughters of one mother 3 And they committed whoredoms in Egypt they committed whoredoms in their youth there were their breasts pressed and there they bruised the teats of their virginity 4 And the names of them were Aholah the elder and Aholibah her sister and they were mine and they bare sons and daughters thus were
carcases of their kings in their high places 8 In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds and their post by my posts ‖ Or for there was out 〈◊〉 wall between me and them and the wall between me and them they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have connuitted wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger 9 Now let them put away their whoredom and the carcases of their kings far from me and I will dweil in the midst of them for ever 10 ¶ Thou son of man shew the house to the house of Israel that they may be ashamed of their iniquities and let them measure the ‖ Or sum or number pattern 11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done shew them the form of the house and the fashion thereof and the goings out thereof and the comings in thereof and all the forms thereof and all the ordinances thereof and all the forms thereof and all the laws thereof and write it in their right that they may keep the whole form thereof and all the ordinances thereof and do them 12 This is the law of the house Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy behold this is the law of the house 13 ¶ And these are the measures of the altar after the cubits the cubit is a cubit and an hand-breadth even the † Heb. before bottow shall be a cubit and the breadth a cubit and the border thereof by the † Heb lip edge thereof round about shall be a spar and this shall be the higher place of the altar 14 And from the bottom upon the ground even to the lower settle shall be two cubits and the breadth one cubit and from the lesser settle even to the greater settle shall be four cubits and the breadth one cubit 15 So † Heb. Harel that is the mountain of God the altar shall be four cubits and from † Heb. Ar●el that is the lion of God the altar and upward shall be four horns 16 And the altar shall be twelve cubits long twelve broad square in the four squares thereof 17 And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares thereof and the border about it shall be half a cubit and the bottom thereof shall be a cubit about and his stairs shall look toward the east 18 ¶ And he said unto me Son of man thus saith the Lord GOD These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it to offer burnt-offerings thereon and to sprinkle bloud thereon 19 And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok which approach unto me to minister unto me saith the Lord GOD a young bullook for a sin-offering 20 And thou shalt take of the bloud thereof and put it on the four horns of it and on the four corners of the settle and upon the border round about thus shalt thou cleanse and purge it 21 Thou shalt take the bullock also of the sin-offering and he shall burn it in the appointed place of the house without the sanctuary 22 And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin-offering and they shall cleanse the altar as they did cleanse it with the bullock 23 When thou hast made an end of cleansing it thou shalt offer a young bullock without blemish and a ram out of the flock without blemish 24 And thou shalt offer them before the LORD and the priests shall cast salt upon them and they shall offer them up for a burnt-offering unto the LORD 25 Seven days shalt thou prepare every day a goat for a sin-offering they shall also prepare a young bullock and a ram out of the flock without blemish 26 Seven days shall they purge the altar and purisie it and they shall † Heb. fill ther● b●nas consecrate themselves 27 And when these days are expired it shall be that upon the eighth day and so forward the priests shall make your burnt-offerings upon the altar and your ‖ Or thank-offerings peace-offerings and I will accept you saith the Lord GOD. temple 3 In his days the * 1 King 7.23 cistern to receive water being in compass as the sea was covered with plates of brass 4 He took care of the temple that it should not fall and fortified the city against besieging 5 How was he honoured in the midst of the people in his coming out of † Gr. the house of the ●●il the sanctuary 6 He was as the morning star in the midst of a cloud and as the moon at the full 7 As the sun shining upon the temple of the most High and as the rainbowe giving light in the bright clouds 8 And as the flower of roses in the spring of the year as lilies by the rivers of waters and as the branches of the frankincense tree in the time of summer 9 As fire and incense in the censer and as a vessel of beaten gold set with all manner of precious stones 10 And as a fair olive-tree budding forth fruit and as a cypress tree which groweth up to the clouds 11 When he put on the robe of honour and was clothed with the perfection of glory when he went up to the holy altar he made the garment of holiness honourable 12 When he took the portions out of the priests hands he himself stood by the hearth of the altar compassed with his brethren round about as a young cedar in Libanus and as palm-trees compassed they him round about 13 So were all the sons of Aaron in their glory and the oblations of the Lord in their hands before all the congregation of Israel 14 And finishing the service at the altar that he might adorn the offering of the most high Almighty 15 He stretched out his hand to the cup and poured of the bloud of the grape he poured out at the foot of the altar a sweet-smelling savour unto the most high King of all 16 Then shouted the sons of Aaron and sounded the ‖ Or trumpets beacon forth with the 〈◊〉 silver trumpets and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before the most High 17 Then all the people together hasted and fell down to the earth upon their faces to worship their Lord God almighty the most High 18 The singers also sang praises with their voices with great variety of sounds was there made sweet melody 19 And the people besought the Lord the most High by prayer before him that is merciful till the solemnity of the Lord was ended and they had finished his service 20 Then he went down and lifted up his hands over the whose congregation of the children of Israel to give the blessing of the Lord with his lips and to rejoyce in his name 21 And they bowed themselves down to worship the second time that they might receive a blessing from the most High 22 Now therefore bless ye the God of all which onely doth wondrous things every where which exalteth our days from the womb and dealeth with us according to his mercy 23 He grant us joyfulness of heart and that peace may be in our days in Israel for ever 24 That he would confirm his mercy with us and deliver us at his time 25 There be two manner of nations which my heart abhorreth and the third is no nation 26 They that sit upon the mountain of Samaria and they that dwell amongst the Philistines and that foolish people that dwell in Sichem 27 Jesus the son of Sirach of Jerusalem hath written in this book the instruction of understanding and knowledge who out of his heart poured forth wisdom 28 Blessed is he that shall be exercised in these things and he that sayeth them up in his heart shall become wise 20 For if he do them he shall be strong to all things for the light of the Lord leadeth him who giveth wisdom to the godly Blesses be the Lord forever Amen amen CHAP. LI. ¶ A prayer of Jesus the son of Sirach I Will thank thee O Lord and King and praise thee O God my Saviour I do give praise unto thy name 2 For thou art my defender and helper and hast preserved my body from destruction and from the snare of the slandrous tongue and from the lips that forge lies and hast been mine helper against mine adversaries 3 And hast delivered me according to the multitude of thy mercies and greatness of thy name from † Gr. the gnashing of the teeth the teeth of them that were ready to devour me and out of the hands of such as sought after my life and from the manifold afflictions which I had 4 From the choking of fire on every side and from the mids of the fire which I kindled not 5 From the depth of the besly of hell from an unclean tongue and from sying words 6 By an accusation to the king from an unrighteous tongue my soul drew near even unto death my life was near to the hell beneath 7 They compassed me on every side and there was no man to help me I looked for the succour of men but there was none 8 Then thought I upon thy mercy O Lord and upon thy acts of old how thou deliverest such as wait for thee and savest them out of the hands of the enemies 9 Then lifted I up my supplication from the earth and prayed for deliverance from death 10 I called upon the Lord the Father of my Lord that he would not leave me in the days of my trouble and in the time of the proud when there was no help 11 I will praise thy name continually and will sing praise with thanksgiving and so my prayer was heard 12 For thou savedst me from destruction and deliveredst me from the evil time therefore will I give thanks and praise thee and bless thy name O Lord. 13 When I was yet young or ever I ‖ Or went astray went abroad I desired wisdom openly in my prayer 14 I prayed for her before the temple and will seek here out even to the end 15 Even from the flower till the grape was ripe hath my heart delighted in her my foot went the right way from my youth up sought I after her 16 I howed down mine ear a little and received her and gat much learning 17 I profited therein therefore will I ascribe the glory unto him that giveth me wisdom 18 For I purposed to do after her and earnestly I followed that which is good so shall I not be confounded 19 My soul hath wrestled with her and in my doings I was exact I stretched forth my hands to the heaven above and bewailed my ignorances of her 20 ‖ Or I got understanding I directed my soul unto her and I found her in pureness I have had my heart joyned with her from the beginning therefore shall I not be forsaken 21 My ‖ Or bow●l● heart was troubled in seeking her therefore have I gotten a good possession 22 The Lord hath given me a tongue for my reward and I will
him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governour 3 ¶ Then Judas which had betrayed him when he saw that he was condemned repented himself and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders 4 Saying I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent bloud And they said What is that to us see thou to that 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple * Act 1.19 and departed and went and hanged himself 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces and said It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury because it is the price of bloud 7 And they took counsel and bought with them the potters field to bury strangers in 8 Wherefore that field was called * Acts. 1.18 the field of bloud unto this day 9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet saying * Zech. 11.13 And they took the thirty pieces of silver the price of him that was valued ‖ Or whom they bought of the children of Israel whom they of the children of Israel did value 10 And gave them for the potters field as the Lord appointed me 11 And Jesus stood before the governour and the governour asked him saying Art thou the king of the Jews And Jesus said unto him Thou sayest 12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders he answered nothing 13 Then saith Pilate unto him Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee 14 And he answered him to never a word insomuch that the governour marvelled greatly 15 * Luke 23.17 Now at that feast the governour was wont to release unto the people a prisoner whom they would 16 And they had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas 17 Therefore when they were gathered together Pilate said unto them Whom will ye that I release unto you Barabbas or Jesus which is called Christ 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him 19 ¶ When he was set down on the judgement-seat his wife sent unto him saying Have thou nothing to do with that just man for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him 20 * John 18.20 Act. 3.14 But the chief priests and elders perswaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas and destroy Jesus 21 The governour answered and said unto them Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you They said Barabbas 22 Pilate saith unto them What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ They all say unto him Let him be crucified 23 And the governour said Why what evil hath he done But they cried out the more saying Let him be crucified 24 ¶ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing but that rather a tumult was made he took water and washed his hands before the multitude saying I am innocent of the bloud of this just person see ye to it 25 Then answered all the people and said His bloud be on us and on our children 26 ¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them and when he had scourged Jesus he delivered him to be crucified 27 * Joh. 19.1 Then the souldiers of the governour took Jesus into the ‖ Or governours house common hall and gathered unto him the whole band of souldiers 28 And they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe 29 ¶ And when they had platted a crown of thorns they put it upon his head and a reed in his right hand and they bowed the knee before him and mocked him saying Hail King of the Jews 30 And they spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head 31 And after that they had mocked him they took the robe off from him and put his own raiment on him and led him away to crucifie him 32 * Mark 15.21 Luke 23.26 And as they came out they found a man of Cyrene Simon by name him they compelled to bear his cross 33 * John 19.17 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha that is to say a place of a skull 34 ¶ They gave him vineger to drink mingled with gall and when he had tasted thereof he would not drink 35 And they crucified him and parted his garments casting lots that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet * Psal 22.18 They parted my garments among them and upon my vesture did they cast lots 36 And sitting down they watched him there 37 And set up over his head his accusation written THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS 38 Then were there two theeves crucified with him one on the right hand and another on the left 39 ¶ And they that passed by reviled him wagging their heads 40 And saying Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days save thy self if thou be the Son of God come down from the cross 41 Likewise also the chief Priests mocking him with the scribes and elders said 42 He saved others himself he cannot save if he be the king of Israel let him now come down from the cross and we will beleeve him 43 * Psal 22.8 Wisd 2.16 17 18. He trusted in God let him deliver him now if he will have him for he said I am the Son of God 44 The theeves also which were crucified with him cast the same in his teeth 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice saying Eli Eli lama sabachthani that is to say * Psal 22.1 My God my God why hast thou forsaken me 47 Some of them that stood there when they heard that said This man calleth for Elias 48 And straightway one of them ran and took a spunge * Psal 69.21 and filled it with vineger and put it on a reed and gave him to drink 49 The rest said Let be let us see whether Elias will come to save him 50 ¶ Jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice yeelded up the ghost 51 And behold the vail of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom and the earth did quake and the rocks rent 52 And the graves were opened and many bodies of saints which slept arose 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared unto many 54 Now when the centurion and they that were with him watching Jesus saw the earthquake and those things that were done they feared greatly saying Truly this was the Son of God 55 And many women were there beholding afar off which followed Jesus from Galilee ministring unto him 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses and the mother of Zebedees children 57 * Mark 15.42 Luke 23.50 Joh. 19.38 When the even was come there came a rich man of Arimathea
tabernacle which is called the holiest of all 4 Which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold wherein was * Ex. 16.34 the golden pot that had manna and * Num. 17.16 A●rons rod that budded and * Deut. 10.5 1 King 8.9 〈◊〉 Chr. 5.10 the tables of the covenant 5 And * Ex. 25.22 over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy-seat of which we cannot now speak particularly 6 Now when these things were thus ordained the priests went always into the first tabernacle accomplishing the service of God 7 But into the second went the high priest alone * Ex. 30.10 ●ev 16. 〈◊〉 once every year not without bloud which he offered for himself and for the errours of the people 8 The holy Ghost this signifying that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest while as the first tabernacle was yet standing 9 Which was a sigure for the time then present in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience 10 Which stood onely in meats and drinks and divers washings and carnal ‖ Or vitor ceremonies ordinances imposed on them until the time of reformation 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands that is to say not of this building 12 Neither by the bloud of goats and calves but by his own bloud he entred in once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption f●r us 13 For it * Lev. 1● 14 the bloud of bulls and of goats and * 1 Num. 19.17 c. the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh 14 How much more shall the bloud of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without ‖ Or fault spot to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God 15 And for this cause he is the Mediatour of the new testament that by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance 16 For where a testament is there must also of necessity ‖ Or be brought in be the death of the testatour 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead otherwise it is of no strength at all whilest the testatour liveth 18 Whereupon neither the first testament was ‖ Or purified dedicated without bloud 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law he took the bloud of calves and of goats with water and ‖ Or purple scarlet wooll and hyssop and sprinkled both the book and all the people 20 Saying * E● 24.8 This is the bloud of the testament which God hath enjoyned unto you 21 Moreover he sprinkled likewise with bloud both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministery 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with bloud and without shedding of bloud is no remission 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices then these 24 For Christ is not entred into the holy places made with hands which are the figures of the true but into heaven it self now * 1 Joh. 2.1 to appear in the presence of God for us 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often as the high priest entreth into the holy place every year with bloud of others 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgement 28 So * 1 Pet. 3.18 Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation CHAP. X. 1 The weakness of the law-sacrifices 10 The sacrifice of Christs body once offered 14 for ever hath taken away sins 19 An exhortation to hold fast the faith with patience and thanksgiving FOr the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year 4 For it is not possible that the bloud of bulls and of goats should take away sins 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world he saith * Psal 10.6 c. Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not but a body ‖ Or thou ●●st fitted me hast thou prepared me 6 In burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure 7 Then said I Lo I come In the volume of the book it is written of me to do thy will O God 8 Above when he said Sacrifice and offering and barnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not neither hadst pleasure therein which are offered by the law 9 Then said he Lo I come to do thy will O God He taketh away the first that he may establish the second 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all 11 And every priest standeth daily ministring and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices which can never take away sins 12 But this man after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever sat down on the right hand of God 13 From henceforth expecting * Psal 11● 1. 1 Cor. 15.25 Chap. 1.13 till his enemies be made his footstool 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified 15 Whereof the holy Ghost also is a witness to us for after that he had said before 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days saith the Lord I will * Jer. 31.33 put my laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more 18 Now where remission of these is there is no more offering for sin 19 Having therefore brethren ‖ Or liberty boldness to enter into the holiest by the bloud of Jesus 20 By a new and living way which he hath ‖ Or new m●d● consecrated for us through the vail that is to say his flesh 21 And having an high priest over the house of God 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and
them that are in bonds as bound with them and them which suffer adversity as being your selves also in the body 4 Marriage is honourable in all and the bed undefiled but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as ye have for he hath said * Deut. 31.8 Josh 1.5 I will never leave thee nor forsake thee 6 So that we may boldly say * Psal 56.4 11. and 118.6 The Lord is my hesper and I will not fear what man shall do unto me 7 Remember them which ‖ Or are the guides have the rule over you who have spoken unto you the word of God whose faith follow considering the end of their conversation 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday and to day and for ever 9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines for it is a good thing that the heart be established with gracy not with meats which have not profited them that have been occupied therein 10 We have an altar whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tab●rna●le 11 For * Levit. 14.11.12 and 6.30 and 16.27 the bodies of those beasts whose bloud is brought into the sanetuary by the high priest for sin are burnt without the camp 12 Wherefore Jesus also that he might sanct he the people with his own bloud suffered without the gate 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp bearing his reproach 14 * Mic 2.10 For here have we no continuing city but we seek one to come 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually that is * Hos 14.2 the fruit of our lips † Gr. confessing to Pais 〈◊〉 .18 giving thanks to his name 16 But to do good and to communicate forget not for * 1 Thes 5.12 with such sacrifices God is well pleased 17 * Obey them that ‖ Or guide have the rule over you submit your selves for they watch for your souls as they that must give account that they may do it with joy and not with grief for that is unprofitable for you 18 Pray for us for we trust we have a good conscience in all things willing to live honestly 19 But I beseech you the rather to do this that I may be restored to you the sooner 20 Now the God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus that great shepherd of the sheep through the bloud of the everlasting ‖ Or testament covenant 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will ‖ Or doing working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight through Jesus Christ to whom be glory for ever and ever Amen 22 And I beseech you brethren suffer the word of exhortation for I have written a letter unto you in few words 23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty with whom if he come shortly I will see you 24 Salute all them that have the rule over you and all the saints They of Italy salute you 25 Grace be with you all Amen ¶ Written to the Hebrews from Italy by Timothy ¶ The general epistle of S. JAMES CHAP. 1. II. It is not agreeable to Christian profession to regard
into lasciviousness and denying the onely Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ 5 I will therefore put you in remembrance though ye once knew this how that the Lord having saved the people out of the land of Egypt afterward * Num. 14.37 destroyed them that beleeved not 6 And * 2 Pet. 2.4 the angels which kept not their ‖ Or principality first eslate but lest their own habitation he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgement of the great day 7 Even as * Gen. 19.24 Sodom and Gomorrha and the cities about them in like manner giving themselves over to fornication and going after † Gr. other strange flesh are set forth for an example suffering the vengeance of eternal fire 8 * 2 Pet. 2.10 11. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh despise dominion and speak evil of dignities 9 Yet Michael the archangel when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses durst not bring against him a railing accusation but said * Zech. 3.2 The Lord rebuke thee 10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not but what they know naturally as brute beasts in those things they corrupt themselves 11 Wo unto them for they have gone in the way of Cain and * 2 Pet. 2.15 ran greedily after the errour of Balaam for reward and perished in the gain-saying of Core 12 These are spots in your feasts of charity when they feast with you seeding themselves without fear * 2 Pet. 2.17 clouds they are without water carried about of winds trees whose fruit withereth without fruit twice dead plucked up by the roots 13 Raging waves of the sea foaming out their own shame wandring stars to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever 14 And Enoch also the seventh from Adam prophesied of these saying Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints 15 To execute judgement upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him 16 These are murmurers complainers walking after their own lusts and their mouth speaketh great swelling words having mens persons in admiration because of advantage 17 But beloved remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ 18 How that they told you * 1 Tim. 4.1 2 Tim. 3.1 2 Pet. 3.3 there should be mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lusts 19 These be they who separate themselves sensual having not the Spirit 20 But ye beloved building up yourselves on your most holy faith praying in the holy Ghost 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life 22 And of some have compassion making a difference 23 And others save with fear pulling them out of the fire hating even the garment spotted by the flesh 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy 25 To the onely wise God our Saviour be glory and majesty dominion and power both now and ever Amen ¶ The REVELATION of S. JOHN the Divine CHAP. IV. 2 John seeth the throne of God in heaven 4 The four and twenty elders 6 The four beasts full of eves before and behinde 10 The elders lay down their crowns and worship him that sat on the throne AFter this I looked and behold a door was opened in heaven and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me which said Come up hither and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter 2 And immediately I was in the spirit and behold a throne was set in heaven and one sat on the throne 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper a sardine stone there was a rainbowe round about the throne in sight like unto an emerald 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting clothed in white raiment and they had on their heads crowns of gold 5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thundrings and voices And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne which are the seven Spirits of God 6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal And in the midst of the throne and round about the throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behinde 7 And the first beast was like a lion and the second beast like a calf and the third beast had a face as a man and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him and they were full of eyes within and † Gr. they have no rest they rest not day and night saying * Isa 6.3 Holy holy holy Lord God Almighty which was and is is to come 9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne who liveth for ever and ever 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne and worship him that liveth for ever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne saying 11 * Ch. 5.12 Thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory and honour and power for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created CHAP.
