bring_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o though_o he_o do_v not_o make_v his_o follower_n king_n yet_o do_v he_o make_v king_n his_o follower_n which_o as_o it_o be_v all_o one_o for_o the_o outward_a glory_n and_o countenance_n of_o the_o gospel_n so_o it_o be_v far_o more_o agree_v with_o the_o property_n and_o profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n namely_o in_o win_a king_n unto_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n by_o gentle_a easy_a weak_a and_o peaceable_a mean_n make_v choice_n of_o sheep_n and_o not_o wolf_n or_o lion_n for_o his_o ambassador_n and_o that_o when_o he_o send_v to_o wolf_n and_o lion_n and_o worse_a than_o tiger_n that_o so_o those_o rebel_n in_o the_o day_n of_o visitation_n when_o they_o see_v how_o the_o lord_n have_v deal_v with_o they_o and_o how_o in_o stead_n of_o sheep_n he_o can_v have_v send_v wolf_n and_o lion_n in_o their_o own_o kind_n to_o have_v worry_v and_o destroy_v they_o then_o as_o overcome_v with_o the_o coal_n of_o fire_n which_o his_o long_a suffering_n break_v forth_o into_o most_o vehement_a and_o sincere_a protestation_n as_o our_o so_o christian_a sovereign_a have_v teach_v they_o unto_o his_o majesty_n alone_o i_o have_v devote_a my_o sceptre_n such_o tripling_n of_o his_o charge_n to_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o glance_n at_o his_o triple_a denial_n 3._o fron_n the_o like_a consideration_n of_o peter_n weakness_n we_o answer_v to_o the_o three_o may_v proceed_v our_o saviour_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o have_v pray_v for_o he_o for_o no_o doubt_n our_o saviour_n prayer_n be_v as_o frequent_v &_o effectual_a for_o the_o rest_n peter_n poverty_n and_o subjection_n than_o any_o kind_n of_o excellency_n and_o dominion_n the_o rest_n also_o perhaps_o not_o be_v liable_a to_o the_o tribute_n which_o be_v then_o demand_v either_o because_o they_o be_v no_o dweller_n at_o capernaum_n as_o peter_n be_v and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v if_o it_o be_v the_o emperor_n tribute_n or_o for_o that_o they_o be_v not_o the_o first_o bear_v new_a name_n of_o peter_n we_o answer_v that_o
great_a power_n and_o authority_n over_o that_o company_n which_o they_o so_o stand_v charge_v with_o now_o that_o those_o king_n be_v more_o deep_o charge_v so_o to_o improve_v those_o christian_n than_o peter_n be_v we_o thus_o prove_v by_o they_o have_v great_a mean_n so_o to_o do_v every_o man_n charge_n be_v answerable_a unto_o his_o mean_n 12._o unto_o who_o much_o be_v give_v as_o our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o there_o be_v much_o of_o he_o to_o be_v require_v and_o the_o more_o mighty_a as_o solomon_n add_v be_v to_o expect_v the_o sore_a trial_n 6.8_o now_o that_o the_o mean_n of_o these_o king_n be_v great_a than_o the_o mean_n of_o peter_n we_o thus_o final_o declare_v first_o because_o it_o be_v in_o their_o power_n to_o protect_v those_o their_o christian_a subject_n from_o persecution_n &_o so_o to_o open_v a_o door_n unto_o their_o preach_n whereas_o peter_n be_v not_o able_a so_o much_o as_o to_o protect_v himself_o no_o not_o to_o save_v his_o own_o shoulder_n from_o the_o whip_n second_o for_o that_o it_o be_v also_o in_o there_o power_n to_o endow_v those_o their_o christian_n with_o privilege_n and_o jurisdiction_n whereby_o such_o as_o be_v otherwise_o untractable_a unto_o the_o gospel_n may_v by_o the_o mean_n of_o such_o temporal_a hope_n and_o fear_n which_o the_o carnal_a mind_a be_v only_o sensible_a of_o be_v win_v or_o prepare_v thereunto_o three_o and_o principal_o because_o rhey_n have_v at_o their_o dispose_n and_o command_v though_o only_o in_o the_o lord_n we_o grant_v and_o no_o otherwise_o can_v peter_n or_o any_o mortal_a man_n have_v at_o command_n the_o gift_n ability_n and_o mystery_n of_o those_o their_o christian_a subject_n the_o lord_n express_o charge_v every_o soul_n among_o they_o to_o be_v subject_a unto_o the_o high_a power_n and_o even_o out_o of_o peter_n own_o mouth_n 13_o that_o they_o shall_v submit_v themselves_o unto_o every_o ordinance_n of_o man_n whether_o unto_o the_o king_n as_o the_o supreme_a etc._n etc._n so_o as_o though_o those_o king_n be_v not_o in_o their_o own_o person_n endue_v with_o such_o gift_n and_o grace_n as_o be_v necessary_a unto_o christian_a government_n at_o least_o not_o so_o abundant_o endue_v as_o peter_n yet_o as_o long_o as_o they_o have_v the_o dispose_n and_o authority_n over_o such_o person_n as_o be_v so_o endue_v it_o be_v as_o well_o in_o effect_n as_o if_o they_o have_v be_v actual_o so_o endue_v themselves_o and_o of_o the_o two_o the_o better_a by_o the_o philosopher_n rule_v 10._o who_o judge_v man_n condition_n in_o be_v bear_v naked_a to_o be_v therein_o rather_o better_v then_o worse_a than_o the_o beast_n for_o that_o man_n may_v by_o that_o mean_n turn_v his_o naked_a hand_n into_o a_o spear_n a_o spade_n a_o sword_n a_o sceptre_n a_o staff_n a_o pen_n or_o what_o he_o list_v and_o shift_v his_o garment_n when_o he_o list_v whereas_o the_o beast_n have_v no_o shift_n but_o must_v always_o sleep_v in_o his_o clothes_n and_o shoe_n and_o with_o his_o weapon_n about_o he_o of_o necessity_n the_o mean_n therefore_o which_o those_o king_n have_v for_o the_o improove_v of_o those_o christian_n unto_o the_o propagation_n yea_o plantation_n of_o the_o gospel_n must_v be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v far_o great_a than_o the_o mean_n of_o peter_n and_o so_o consequent_o there_o charge_v to_o be_v great_a for_o though_o it_o be_v easy_o grant_v that_o those_o heathen_a king_n do_v little_a regard_n or_o feel_v any_o such_o charge_n but_o rather_o abuse_v and_o hate_v the_o mean_n thereof_o yet_o be_v not_o that_o material_a our_o question_n be_v not_o what_o there_o feeling_n or_o practice_n be_v but_o what_o their_o duty_n and_o charge_n be_v which_o if_o it_o be_v great_a than_o peter_n then_o also_o by_o the_o proportion_n of_o common_a justice_n their_o authority_n also_o must_v be_v great_a and_o so_o final_o if_o their_o authority_n over_o those_o christian_n be_v great_a than_o peter_n peter_n can_v not_o be_v their_o head_n and_o so_o not_o universal_o the_o christian_n head_n unless_o it_o shall_v be_v suppose_v either_o that_o peter_n be_v a_o subordinate_a head_n which_o be_v indeed_o no_o head_n but_o a_o subject_n or_o that_o those_o christian_n be_v under_o two_o several_a and_o undependant_a head_n which_o both_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o also_o the_o law_n of_o grace_n argument_n he_o which_o in_o his_o time_n surpass_v all_o man_n for_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o holiness_n good_a reason_n he_o shall_v over-rule_v but_o peter_n so_o surpass_v all_o man_n in_o his_o time_n peter_n therefore_o must_v be_v the_o supreme_a whereunto_o we_o answer_v that_o neither_o of_o the_o ground_n be_v find_v for_o as_o we_o acknowledge_v no_o cause_n why_o peter_n gift_n sickness_n and_o decrepit_a age_n and_o yet_o stand_v charge_v in_o conscience_n to_o give_v he_o the_o pre-eminence_n so_o may_v a_o subject_n excel_v his_o prince_n for_o personal_a virtue_n and_o so_o far_o as_o they_o have_v ear_n to_o hear_v and_o list_v to_o follow_v the_o tingle_a of_o their_o bell_n and_o the_o page_n to_o lead_v and_o drive_v they_o whether_o they_o have_v list_n or_o no_o so_o likewise_o when_o spiritual_a man_n be_v call_v light_n though_o the_o scripture_n expound_v they_o to_o be_v but_o candlestick_n of_o such_o light_n 2._o yet_o may_v they_o be_v inferior_a unto_o those_o which_o follow_v their_o light_n as_o much_o as_o the_o lantherne-bearer_n be_v inferior_a unto_o his_o follow_a master_n or_o as_o the_o understanding_n be_v inferior_a to_o the_o than_o who_o be_v a_o possessor_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o so_o by_o that_o mean_n more_o certain_o know_v who_o they_o be_v to_o obey_v for_o as_o in_o wedlock_n have_v the_o lord_n ordain_v that_o the_o holy_a or_o the_o wise_a of_o the_o two_o shall_v be_v the_o head_n there_o must_v needs_o ensue_v continual_a discord_n and_o uncertainty_n in_o the_o family_n who_o shall_v be_v the_o head_n the_o woman_n often_o time_n be_v seem_v at_o least_o the_o holy_a wise_a &c._n &c._n whereas_o he_o express_o determine_v that_o the_o man_n shall_v be_v head_n which_o with_o the_o least_o turn_n of_o the_o eye_n be_v discern_v so_o all_o controversy_n be_v end_v and_o the_o weak_a of_o the_o family_n easy_o resolve_v who_o in_o case_n of_o difference_n about_o thing_n indifferent_a ought_v who_o be_v a_o usurper_n all_o which_o though_o they_o be_v but_o circumstance_n yet_o be_v they_o such_o as_o a_o man_n can_v have_v no_o better_o for_o the_o discern_a his_o own_o father_n who_o yet_o smite_v only_o one_o particular_a person_n namely_o by_o suffer_v their_o prince_n or_o head_n to_o become_v a_o tyrant_n or_o a_o babe_n whereupon_o as_o himself_o have_v teach_v we_o a_o woe_n must_v befall_v the_o whole_a land_n 3.4_o whereas_o be_v the_o crown_n continual_o keep_v and_o possess_v by_o the_o spirit_n such_o a_o kind_n of_o rod_n shall_v find_v no_o place_n for_o as_o concern_v those_o which_o think_v there_o be_v no_o necessity_n for_o this_o consequence_n because_o in_o case_n a_o babe_n or_o a_o tyrant_n supply_v the_o throne_n the_o whole_a nation_n need_v not_o be_v obnoxious_a unto_o any_o smart_n thereby_o for_o that_o it_o be_v think_v lawful_a yea_o necessary_a to_o cut_v off_o such_o babe_n and_o tyrant_n we_o answer_v that_o such_o opinion_n be_v not_o only_o most_o impious_a and_o presumptuous_a against_o god_n but_o also_o most_o preposterous_a monstrous_a unjust_a and_o ridiculous_a before_o man_n first_o most_o impious_a it_o be_v because_o it_o be_v the_o common_a ordinance_n of_o god_n that_o we_o shall_v obey_v and_o honour_v prince_n yea_o that_o we_o shall_v honour_v our_o particular_a father_n much_o more_o the_o father_n of_o the_o whole_a country_n so_o far_o must_v we_o be_v from_o abase_v they_o especial_o in_o case_n of_o their_o imbecility_n how_o impious_a then_o must_v they_o needs_o be_v which_o will_v handle_v their_o prince_n no_o better_o than_o caityfe_n and_o most_o desperate_a member_n second_o most_o presumptuous_a it_o be_v both_o for_o that_o it_o put_v he_o by_o who_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v reign_n namely_o that_o babe_n or_o that_o tyrant_n for_o the_o purpose_n aforesaid_a and_o also_o for_o that_o it_o do_v interpose_v a_o judgement_n seat_n betwixt_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o who_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o most_o immediate_a his_o very_a next_o his_o own_o anoint_v and_o as_o for_o the_o monstrousness_n of_o it_o it_o appear_v in_o this_o both_o for_o that_o it_o suppose_v a_o power_n in_o the_o body_n above_o the_o head_n namely_o that_o power_n which_o must_v cut_v the_o head_n off_o in_o the_o room_n of_o which_o head_n in_o case_n another_o head_n shall_v
