An abstract of his Maiesties Letters Pattents graunted to George Wood for the sole Printing of Lynnen-Cloath as followeth I R HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE WHERE AS THE KINGS most Excellent Maiestie being informed of an inuention for printing vpon Lynnen-cloath was gratiously pleased by his Highnes Letters Partents bearing date the fiue and twentieth day of October now last past in the Seuenteenth yeare of his Raigne of England France and Ireland c. And of Scotland the Three and Fiftieth Did giue and graunt by the said Letters Pattents vnto George Wood for the tearme of one and Twenty yeares full and sole licence libertie power and authoritie to vse exercise practise put in execucion within his Dominions of England and Walles the Printing of Lynnen-cloath with an inhibition therein contained that none other then the said George Wood his Deputies or Assignes should vse the same with Presse or Screwe or by force of Hand or stroke of Hammer or with any other Ingine or Instrument whatsoeuer that should leaue any impression of culour or culours behind it or to buy sell vtter or put to saile within his Maiesties Realmes or Dominions or any parte of them any Lynnen-cloath knowing the same to the Printed by any person or persons other then the said George Wood his Executors Administrators Deputies Assignes or Seruants aswell vpon paine of forfeiture of all such Lynnen-cloath so printed to his Maiestie as of all instruments and tooles vsed or to be vsed about the printing of the same and them to haue defaced and made vnusefull as vpon payne of his Maiesties heauie indignation and vpon such further paines and pennalties and imprisonments as by the Lawes and Statutes of this Realme can or may be inflicted vpon the offendors for their contempt disobedieuce in breaking and contemning his Maiesties commaundement Prerogatiue Royall And for the better execution of the said graunt and preuelidge his Maiestie Did by the sad Letters Pattents for Him his Heires and Successors giue and graunt full and free Power and Authoritie vnto the said George Wood his Executors Administrators and Assignes that he the said George Wood his Executors Administrators and Assignes by himselfe or themselues or any of them or by his or their or any of their Deputies Factors or Seruants should or might from time to time and at all times during the tearme aforesaid of Twenty and one yeares with the assistance of a Constable or some other Officer to enter and goe into all and singular place and places where any probabilitie or likelihood might be for the finding out of the said offences and their to search for all such Lynnen-cloath as should be by any person or persons Printed bought or sould contrarie to the true entent and meaning of the said Letters Pattents And that vpon the finding out of and discouerie of all such offences it should and might be lawfull to and for the said George Wood his Executors Administrators and Assignes and Deputies aswell to seize take and cary away to the vse of his Maiestie his Heires and Successors all such Lynnen cloath as shall be so Printed vttered or sould contrarie to the true meaning of the said Letters Pattents as also to seize and take all manner of Instrument tooles and implements vsed and to be vsed for the purposes aforesaid and the same to deface breake and make vnusefull or otherwise to dispose of as he or they should thinke meete Therefore it is thought fitt to giue notice to all persons in general of his Maiesties erpresse commaundement And if any hereafter shall haue occasion of vse any Cloath printed and that the buyer and buyers may not incurr his Maiesties displeasures nor bring vpon themselues the paines penalties and imprisonment that may be inflicted as aforesaid Therefore they may repaire to Hunny Laine in Cheapside ouer against Bowe Church where they shall be reasonably dealt withall for the buying of such things ready Printed or for the Printing of them God saue the King
