jurisdiction_n within_o itself_o which_o seem_v to_o we_o plain_o to_o prove_v that_o for_o a_o congregation_n to_o be_v so_o independent_a as_o to_o be_v the_o final_a judge_n of_o offence_n within_o itself_o be_v not_o against_o all_o equity_n nor_o against_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n as_o be_v intimate_v by_o you_o in_o the_o page_n aforementioned_a but_o sith_o in_o one_o place_n you_o grant_v that_o in_o some_o case_n a_o congregation_n may_v have_v entireness_n of_o jurisdiction_n within_o itself_o and_o in_o another_o place_n do_v seem_v to_o imply_v that_o it_o be_v against_o all_o equity_n and_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v grant_v we_o for_o our_o part_n be_v not_o able_a to_o discern_v how_o these_o thing_n do_v stand_v together_o but_o that_o it_o be_v former_o command_v to_o the_o jew_n yet_o this_o be_v nothing_o to_o prove_v the_o necessity_n of_o the_o dependence_n of_o congregation_n upon_o the_o government_n of_o synod_n which_o be_v our_o question_n because_o there_o may_v be_v such_o gradual_a proceed_n to_o the_o fulfil_n of_o our_o saviour_n rule_n without_o any_o use_n of_o a_o synod_n at_o all_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o synod_n have_v need_v to_o be_v more_o frequent_a than_o they_o be_v or_o ever_o be_v or_o be_v ever_o like_a to_o be_v for_o this_o rule_n of_o our_o saviour_n be_v of_o very_o frequent_a use_n and_o though_o it_o be_v grant_v also_o that_o by_o church_n our_o saviour_n mean_v the_o elder_n which_o be_v the_o other_o sense_n of_o your_o word_n of_o reference_n to_o the_o jewish_a church-government_n yet_o neither_o will_v this_o prove_v the_o dependence_n of_o congregation_n upon_o the_o government_n of_o synod_n because_o there_o may_v be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v elder_n and_o a_o eldership_n or_o presbytery_n in_o every_o particular_a congregation_n and_o by_o tell_v those_o elder_n that_o rule_n may_v be_v observe_v if_o our_o saviour_n word_n be_v take_v in_o they_o they_o may_v be_v perform_v as_o preach_v prayer_n sacrament_n discipline_n etc._n etc._n which_o show_v they_o be_v entire_a church_n within_o themselves_o dr._n ames_n have_v the_o say_n the_o synagogue_n be_v not_o complete_a church_n because_o the_o whole_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o all_o the_o sacred_a communion_n prescribe_v at_o that_o time_n can_v not_o be_v exercise_v in_o congregation_n may_v be_v dependent_a and_o we_o not_o so_o may_v be_v this_o they_o have_v a_o superior_a judicatory_n to_o appeal_v unto_o which_o have_v the_o supremum_fw-la of_o church_n power_n within_o itself_o and_o from_o who_o sentence_n there_o be_v no_o appeal_n to_o any_o further_a judge_n upon_o earth_n for_o so_o it_o be_v say_v of_o that_o synedrion_fw-mi at_o jerusalem_n deut._n 17._o and_o reason_n require_v that_o some_o such_o supreme_a judicatory_n there_o shall_v be_v for_o controversy_n and_o case_n of_o doubt_n must_v not_o be_v draw_v out_o in_o infinitum_fw-la but_o of_o necessity_n standum_fw-la est_fw-la in_fw-la aliquo_fw-la supremo_fw-la we_o must_v rest_v in_o some_o supreme_a and_o proceed_v no_o further_o but_o now_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n if_o we_o where_o you_o seem_v to_o grant_v that_o though_o no_o other_o place_n in_o scripture_n yet_o that_o place_n 1_o corinth_n 14._o do_v give_v the_o name_n of_o church_n to_o one_o single_a congregation_n whereas_o now_o you_o give_v corinth_n also_o as_o one_o instance_n where_o many_o congregation_n be_v call_v a_o church_n it_o be_v strange_a to_o we_o how_o corinth_n shall_v be_v a_o example_n of_o both_o these_o viz._n of_o the_o name_n of_o church_n give_v to_o one_o single_a congregation_n as_o you_o do_v acknowledge_v pag._n 12._o and_o of_o many_o congregation_n call_v by_o the_o name_n of_o one_o church_n as_o now_o you_o will_v have_v it_o but_o the_o place_n 1._o cor._n 14._o 23._o that_o speak_v of_o the_o whole_a church_n commiug_v together_o into_o one_o place_n do_v unavoidable_o prove_v for_o aught_o we_o can_v discern_v that_o corinth_n have_v their_o meeting_n and_o not_o by_o way_n of_o distribution_n into_o several_a congregation_n but_o altogether_o in_o one_o congregation_n and_o do_v also_o answer_v your_o reason_n draw_v from_o the_o variety_n of_o teacher_n and_o prophet_n in_o that_o church_n for_o it_o be_v plain_a from_o that_o very_a chapter_n that_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n have_v many_o prophet_n let_v the_o prophet_n speak_v two_o or_o three_o and_o let_v the_o rest_n judge_n vers._n 39_o and_o many_o that_o speak_v with_o tongue_n who_o must_v speak_v by_o course_n two_o or_o three_o and_o one_o interpret_v verse_n 27._o yea_o every_o one_o general_o have_v a_o psalm_n or_o a_o doctrine_n or_o a_o revelation_n or_o a_o interpretation_n verse_n 26._o as_o indeed_o they_o come_v behind_o in_o no_o gift_n 1_o cor._n 1._o and_o yet_o for_o all_o their_o variety_n of_o gift_n and_o gift_a man_n prophet_n interpreter_n you_o do_v allege_v he_o do_v not_o say_v that_o those_o author_n do_v all_o acknowledge_v such_o necessary_a usefulness_n of_o appeal_n to_o a_o synod_n as_o you_o do_v report_n they_o to_o acknowledge_v nor_o do_v allege_v they_o for_o that_o end_n but_o for_o another_o purpose_n viz._n to_o show_v that_o in_o these_o day_n we_o may_v allege_v and_o argue_v from_o text_n out_o of_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n and_o other_o place_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n which_o if_o it_o be_v right_o do_v we_o for_o our_o part_n see_v no_o reason_n to_o disallow_v but_o that_o all_o these_o author_n even_o barrow_n and_o ainsworth_n do_v acknowledge_v the_o necessary_a usefulness_n of_o appeal_n from_o particular_a congregation_n to_o the_o government_n of_o synod_n be_v so_o large_a a_o expression_n as_o we_o know_v not_o upon_o what_o ground_n to_o think_v it_o credible_a sith_o it_o be_v well_o know_v to_o they_o that_o have_v read_v their_o writing_n that_o they_o acknowledge_v no_o ecclesiastical_a judicatory_n superior_a to_o that_o of_o a_o particular_a congregation_n if_o the_o benefit_n of_o appeal_n and_o consociation_n of_o church_n to_o their_o mutual_a help_n in_o government_n shall_v not_o be_v as_o free_a to_o we_o as_o to_o the_o jew_n how_o much_o more_o defective_a and_o improvident_a be_v the_o gospel_n than_o the_o law_n pag._n 7._o consociation_n of_o church_n for_o mutual_a help_n we_o willing_o acknowledge_v so_o that_o this_o consociation_n may_v neither_o constitute_v a_o new_a form_n of_o a_o church_n nor_o take_v away_o or_o impair_v the_o according_a to_o your_o opinion_n and_o ground_n we_o know_v not_o where_o or_o when_o to_o find_v such_o a_o judicatory_n but_o there_o must_v be_v appeal_n upon_o appeal_n from_o the_o congregation_n to_o the_o classis_fw-la from_o a_o classis_fw-la to_o a_o provincial_n synod_n and_o from_o they_o to_o a_o national_a and_o from_o that_o to_o a_o ecumenical_a and_o by_o this_o mean_n cause_n may_v be_v so_o protract_v as_o not_o to_o receive_v any_o determination_n for_o many_o generation_n yea_o it_o may_v be_v never_o while_o this_o world_n do_v endure_v second_o as_o with_o they_o there_o be_v a_o stand_v judicatory_a always_o in_o readiness_n for_o the_o hear_n of_o cause_n so_o we_o hold_v the_o like_a in_o the_o particular_a congregation_n whereas_o synod_n be_v not_o always_o in_o readiness_n but_o so_o seldom_o that_o if_o they_o have_v supreme_a power_n to_o determine_v yet_o cause_v maâ—_n be_v long_o depend_v before_o a_o synod_n can_v be_v call_v for_o the_o determine_n of_o they_o three_o whereas_o the_o supreme_a judicatory_a at_o jerusalem_n be_v but_o one_o in_o all_o the_o world_n be_v very_o far_o remote_a from_o all_o proselyte_n that_o live_v in_o other_o country_n as_o the_o eunuch_n of_o ethiopia_n act._n 8._o yea_o far_o remote_a from_o those_o jew_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o further_a part_n of_o the_o holy_a land_n god_n have_v provide_v better_a for_o we_o in_o regard_n that_o congregation_n wherein_o we_o place_v the_o supreme_a church_n power_n be_v many_o in_o number_n a_o christian_n may_v have_v the_o use_n of_o that_o power_n with_o much_o more_o conveniency_n then_o be_v afford_v to_o most_o jew_n and_o proselyte_n in_o those_o day_n but_o as_o for_o synod_n as_o they_o be_v for_o time_n more_o seldom_o then_o that_o synedrion_n so_o they_o be_v to_o many_o person_n no_o lesser_a remote_a in_o place_n by_o all_o which_o it_o do_v appear_v that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o independent_n as_o you_o call_v they_o do_v in_o some_o thing_n make_v we_o equal_a to_o the_o jew_n and_o in_o other_o thing_n do_v make_v our_o condition_n more_o excellent_a than_o they_o whereas_o according_a to_o your_o way_n that_o be_v against_o independency_n in_o many_o thing_n our_o condition_n be_v make_v more_o defective_a than_o they_o how_o be_v our_o saviour_n king_n of_o peace_n and_o righteousness_n shall_v he_o have_v ordain_v now_o under_o the_o gospel_n such_o a_o government_n as_o be_v neither_o righteous_a nor_o peaceable_a pa._n 7._o that_o our_o bless_a saviour_n be_v king_n of_o righteousness_n and_o peace_n and_o the_o church_n government_n which_o he_o have_v ordain_v both_o righteous_a and_o peaceable_a be_v such_o a_o certain_a and_o divine_a truth_n that_o it_o be_v blasphemous_a that_o may_v come_v thereby_o which_o as_o it_o be_v the_o practice_n of_o asa_n hezekiah_n josiah_n and_o the_o state_n of_o judah_n in_o their_o time_n so_o we_o have_v cause_n with_o all_o humble_a
