many_o body_n and_o there_o be_v many_o christ_n what_o a_o easy_a task_n have_v the_o representer_n to_o take_v off_o such_o character_n as_o these_o vi_o of_o merit_n and_o good_a work_n here_o we_o only_o charge_v they_o with_o say_v as_o the_o council_n of_o trent_n do_v that_o the_o good_a work_n of_o justify_v person_n be_v true_o meritorious_a of_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o eternal_a life_n and_o though_o we_o think_v this_o be_v too_o much_o for_o any_o creature_n especial_o a_o sinner_n to_o pretend_v to_o merit_v and_o know_v not_o how_o to_o reconcile_v grace_n and_o assistance_n without_o limit_v it_o to_o the_o assistance_n of_o their_o prayer_n and_o the_o answerer_n p._n 25._o tell_v he_o what_o reason_n he_o have_v to_o believe_v that_o neither_o the_o trent_n council_n nor_o catechism_n do_v intend_v any_o such_o limitation_n but_o this_o he_o think_v fit_a to_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o for_o it_o have_v be_v very_o troublesome_a to_o answer_v christ._n and_o no_o doubt_n but_o this_o be_v true_a but_o the_o council_n speak_v not_o only_o of_o invoke_v the_o saint_n but_o of_o fly_v to_o their_o aid_n and_o assistance_n and_o pray_v what_o do_v that_o signify_v that_o he_o have_v no_o mind_n to_o tell_v we_o and_o when_o he_o say_v nothing_o of_o it_o how_o come_v our_o reflecter_n to_o know_v that_o he_o limit_n it_o to_o their_o prayer_n as_o for_o the_o point_n of_o merit_n i_o have_v already_o consider_v that_o though_o i_o do_v not_o see_v upon_o second_o thought_n how_o the_o answerer_n be_v concern_v in_o it_o for_o he_o do_v not_o allege_v the_o 32_o canon_n to_o oppose_v what_o he_o assert_n that_o good_a work_n be_v meritorious_a by_o the_o goodness_n and_o promise_n of_o god_n but_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o the_o anathema_n which_o it_o denounce_v against_o those_o who_o deny_v that_o good_a work_n be_v true_o meritorious_a of_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o eternal_a life_n and_o therefore_o his_o infallibility_n will_v certain_o be_v one_o character_n of_o a_o papist_n misrepresent_v but_o he_o say_v 8._o this_o be_v only_o a_o school-debate_n and_o not_o matter_n of_o faith_n because_o not_o positive_o determine_v by_o any_o general_a council_n and_o yet_o whoever_o read_v cardinal_n bellarmin_n and_o several_a other_o on_o this_o subject_n will_v think_v they_o make_v a_o matter_n of_o faith_n of_o it_o but_o i_o will_v ask_v he_o whether_o the_o infallibility_n of_o the_o church_n be_v a_o article_n of_o faith_n if_o it_o be_v my_o next_o question_n be_v in_o what_o general_a council_n it_o be_v define_v it_o seem_v indeed_o to_o be_v take_v for_o grant_v in_o some_o late_a council_n but_o i_o be_o yet_o to_o seek_v what_o general_n council_n have_v positive_o define_v it_o i_o be_o sure_a bellarmin_n and_o other_o learned_a divine_n of_o the_o roman_a communion_n who_o use_v all_o manner_n of_o argument_n they_o can_v think_v of_o to_o prove_v the_o infallibility_n of_o the_o church_n never_o allege_v the_o authority_n of_o any_o council_n for_o it_o so_o that_o it_o seem_v infallibility_n itself_o be_v never_o determine_v by_o any_o general_a council_n and_o if_o the_o infallibility_n of_o the_o church_n be_v matter_n of_o faith_n though_o it_o be_v never_o define_v by_o any_o general_a council_n why_o may_v not_o the_o infallibility_n of_o the_o pope_n be_v so_o too_o nay_o how_o do_v our_o reflecter_n come_v to_o believe_v the_o infallibility_n of_o a_o general_n council_n for_o this_o be_v no_o more_o define_v by_o any_o general_a council_n than_o the_o infallibility_n of_o the_o pope_n be_v if_o there_o must_v be_v infallibility_n in_o the_o church_n somewhere_o i_o think_v the_o pope_n who_o they_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v the_o supreme_a pastor_n have_v the_o fair_a pretence_n to_o it_o for_o infallibility_n ought_v in_o reason_n to_o accompany_v the_o great_a and_o most_o absolute_a power_n if_o we_o must_v have_v a_o infallible_a judge_n of_o controversy_n it_o must_v be_v the_o pope_n not_o a_o council_n because_o if_o you_o place_v infallibility_n in_o a_o council_n the_o church_n have_v no_o infallible_a judge_n any_o long_a than_o while_o the_o council_n be_v sit_v for_o the_o definition_n and_o decree_n of_o council_n how_o infallible_a soever_o they_o be_v yet_o certain_o can_v be_v a_o infallible_a judge_n which_o they_o will_v not_o allow_v to_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o and_o therefore_o if_o the_o church_n can_v never_o be_v without_o a_o infallible_a judge_n he_o who_o be_v the_o supreme_a pastor_n and_o judge_n must_v be_v infallible_a now_o this_o be_v the_o case_n i_o desire_v to_o know_v why_o our_o reflecter_n prefer_v the_o infallibility_n of_o a_o general_n council_n before_o the_o pope_n personal_a infallibility_n how_o one_o come_v to_o be_v matter_n of_o faith_n and_o not_o the_o other_o or_o if_o neither_o of_o they_o be_v why_o one_o make_v the_o character_n of_o a_o papist_n misrepresent_v the_o other_o of_o a_o papist_n represent_v for_o though_o he_o pretend_v not_o to_o deliver_v his_o own_o private_a sentiment_n or_o opinion_n concern_v this_o point_n but_o only_o to_o relate_v matter_n of_o fact_n yet_o he_o have_v so_o cunning_a a_o way_n of_o tell_v his_o tale_n as_o to_o let_v every_o body_n know_v which_o side_n he_o be_v of_o for_o we_o may_v guess_v that_o he_o do_v not_o over_o admire_v the_o papist_n misrepresent_v and_o then_o he_o can_v be_v very_o fond_a of_o the_o pope_n infallibility_n which_o be_v part_n of_o that_o character_n represent_v i_o pretend_v to_o declare_v the_o faith_n of_o a_o roman-catholick_n as_o it_o be_v define_v and_o deliver_v in_o allow_a general_n council_n and_o yet_o though_o the_o depose_n decree_n be_v not_o absolute_o obligatory_a as_o be_v evident_a in_o the_o council_n of_o trent_n who_o decree_n of_o doctrine_n be_v as_o much_o acknowledge_v here_o by_o catholic_n in_o england_n
