to_o their_o place_n and_o calling_n they_o shall_v endeavour_v the_o preservation_n of_o the_o reform_a church_n of_o scotland_n in_o doctrine_n worship_n discipline_n and_o government_n at_o this_o time_n there_o be_v no_o reform_a church_n in_o scotland_n but_o the_o episcopal_a unless_o the_o scots_a covenanter_n erect_v another_o so_o here_o the_o scot_n do_v not_o distinguish_v which_o church_n they_o swear_v to_o endeavour_v to_o preserve_v nor_o say_v what_o the_o doctrine_n discipline_n worship_n and_o government_n of_o the_o church_n of_o scotland_n be_v so_o that_o herein_o in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o oath_n they_o swear_v equivocal_o and_o in_o the_o second_o they_o swear_v by_o implicit_a faith_n without_o declare_v wherein_o their_o doctrine_n discipline_n worship_n and_o government_n do_v consist_v that_o they_o shall_v also_o endeavour_v the_o extirpation_n of_o popery_n prelacy_n superstition_n heresy_n schism_n profaneness_n etc._n etc._n all_o oath_n be_v to_o be_v take_v in_o truth_n viz._n of_o what_o a_o man_n know_v or_o true_o intend_v can_v any_o man_n believe_v that_o every_o scot_n which_o swear_v the_o covenant_n know_v what_o popery_n prelacy_n superstition_n schism_n and_o profaneness_n be_v especial_o when_o they_o have_v a_o &c._n &c._n join_v to_o they_o i_o do_v not_o believe_v that_o ever_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n or_o any_o other_o nation_n ever_o impose_v such_o a_o equivocal_a and_o cant_v oath_n as_o this_o covenant_n by_o a_o rout_n of_o man_n and_o contrary_a to_o the_o establish_a government_n in_o be_v and_o against_o the_o king_n express_a will._n and_o to_o make_v all_o sure_a they_o swear_v to_o defend_v all_o those_o that_o shall_v enter_v into_o this_o covenant_n and_o shall_v zealous_o and_o constant_o all_o the_o day_n of_o their_o life_n continue_v therein_o but_o god_n shall_v soon_o blast_v this_o abominable_a swear_v to_o the_o destruction_n of_o these_o covenanter_n the_o oath_n of_o the_o covenant_n be_v pure_o promissory_a wherein_o they_o swear_v what_o wondrous_a act_n they_o will_v do_v in_o preservation_n of_o their_o kirk_n etc._n etc._n and_o for_o the_o extirpation_n of_o popery_n prelacy_n &c_n &c_n and_o for_o the_o mutual_a defence_n of_o one_o another_o but_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o convocation-oath_n be_v assertory_n wherein_o they_o swear_v that_o they_o approve_v the_o doctrine_n and_o discipline_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n as_o contain_v all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n so_o as_o there_o be_v no_o further_a need_n of_o search_v the_o scripture_n and_o no_o man_n need_v further_a to_o seek_v his_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_v if_o he_o be_v conversant_a in_o the_o doctrine_n and_o discipline_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n the_o next_o part_n of_o it_o be_v negative_o promissory_a that_o they_o will_v not_o bring_v in_o any_o popish_a doctrine_n contrary_a to_o it_o the_o three_o part_n of_o it_o be_v partly_o promissory_a and_o partly_o assertory_n promissory_a not_o to_o give_v consent_n to_o alter_v the_o government_n of_o this_o church_n by_o archbishop_n bishop_n dean_n arch-deacon_n etc._n etc._n assertory_n as_o it_o now_o stand_v and_o aught_o to_o stand_v the_o four_o part_n be_v promissory_a not_o to_o subject_v it_o to_o the_o usurpation_n and_o supersition_n of_o rome_n without_o declare_v what_o these_o be_v the_o last_o part_n of_o this_o oath_n be_v assertory_n that_o this_o they_o do_v plain_o and_o sincere_o acknowledge_v and_o swear_v and_o do_v it_o hearty_o willing_o and_o true_o now_o let_v we_o see_v the_o success_n of_o this_o jumble_a oath_n and_o grant_v of_o these_o subsidy_n first_o the_o king_n never_o get_v one_o groat_n of_o they_o second_o the_o very_a next_o year_n after_o viz._n march_v 10_o the_o commons_o vote_v that_o no_o bishop_n shall_v have_v any_o vote_n in_o parliament_n nor_o any_o judicial_a power_n in_o the_o
