of_o that_o power_n be_v prejudicial_a to_o the_o king_n or_o his_o supremacy_n whereof_o all_o the_o part_n be_v confess_v either_o to_o be_v derive_v from_o he_o or_o not_o to_o be_v execute_v without_o he_o xiii_o five_o that_o if_o episcopacy_n must_v be_v therefore_o conclude_v to_o be_v repugnant_a to_o monarchy_n because_o it_o claim_v to_o be_v of_o divine_a right_n then_o must_v monarch_n either_o suffer_v within_o their_o dominion_n no_o form_n of_o church-government_n at_o all_o and_o then_o will_v church_n and_o with_o it_o religion_n soon_o fall_v to_o the_o ground_n or_o else_o they_o must_v devise_v some_o new_a model_n of_o government_n such_o as_o never_o be_v yet_o use_v or_o challenge_v in_o any_o part_n of_o the_o christian_a world_n since_o no_o form_n of_o government_n ever_o yet_o use_v or_o challenge_v but_o have_v claim_v to_o a_o ius_n divinum_fw-la as_o well_o as_o episcopacy_n yea_o i_o may_v say_v true_o every_o one_o of_o they_o with_o far_o more_o noise_n though_o with_o far_o less_o reason_n than_o episcopacy_n have_v do_v and_o therefore_o of_o what_o party_n soever_o the_o objector_n be_v papist_n presbyterian_o or_o independent_o they_o show_v themselves_o extreme_o partial_a against_o the_o honest_a regular_a protestant_n in_o condemn_v he_o as_o a_o enemy_n to_o regal_a power_n for_o hold_v that_o in_o his_o way_n which_o if_o it_o be_v just_o chargeable_a with_o such_o a_o crime_n themselves_o hold_v the_o very_a same_o in_o their_o several_a way_n be_v every_o whit_n as_o deep_o guilty_a of_o as_o he_o xiiii_o last_o that_o this_o their_o partiality_n be_v by_o so_o much_o the_o more_o inexcusable_a by_o how_o much_o the_o true_a english_a protestant_n for_o his_o government_n not_o only_o have_v a_o better_a title_n to_o a_o ius_n divinum_fw-la than_o any_o of_o the_o other_o three_o have_v for_o they_o but_o also_o plead_v the_o same_o with_o more_o caution_n and_o modesty_n than_o any_o of_o they_o do_v which_o of_o the_o four_o pretender_n have_v the_o best_a title_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o business_n we_o be_v now_o about_o the_o trial_n of_o that_o will_v rest_v upon_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o argument_n that_o be_v bring_v to_o maintain_v it_o wherein_o the_o presbyterian_o perhaps_o will_v not_o find_v any_o very_a great_a advantage_n beyond_o the_o rest_n of_o those_o that_o contest_v for_o it_o but_o let_v the_o right_n be_v where_o it_o will_v be_v we_o will_v for_o the_o present_n suppose_v they_o all_o to_o have_v equal_a title_n and_o thus_o far_o indeed_o they_o be_v equal_a that_o every_o one_o take_v his_o own_o to_o be_v best_a and_o it_o shall_v suffice_v to_o show_v that_o the_o ius_n divinum_fw-la be_v plead_v by_o the_o episcopal_a party_n with_o more_o calmeness_n and_o moderation_n and_o with_o less_o derogation_n from_o regal_a dignity_n then_o by_o any_o other_o of_o the_o three_o xv._n for_o first_o the_o rest_n when_o they_o speak_v of_o ius_n divinum_fw-la in_o reference_n to_o their_o several_a wave_n of_o church-government_n take_v it_o in_o the_o high_a elevation_n in_o the_o first_o and_o strict_a sense_n the_o papist_n ground_v the_o pope_n ecumenical_a supremacy_n upon_o christ_n command_n to_z peter_z to_o execute_v it_o and_o to_o all_o the_o flock_n of_o christ_n prince_n also_o as_o well_o as_o other_o to_o submit_v to_o he_o as_o their_o universal_a pastor_n the_o presbyterian_a cry_v up_o his_o model_n of_o government_n and_o discipline_n though_o mint_v in_o the_o last_o bygon_a century_n as_o the_o very_a sceptre_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n whereunto_o all_o king_n be_v bind_v to_o submit_v they_o make_v it_o as_o unalterable_a and_o inevitable_o necessary_a to_o the_o be_v of_o a_o church_n as_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n be_v the_o independent_a separatist_n also_o upon_o that_o grand_a principle_n of_o puritanisme_n common_a to_o he_o with_o the_o presbyterian_a the_o very_a root_n of_o almost_o all_o the_o sect_n in_o the_o world_n viz_o that_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v order_v in_o church-matter_n other_o or_o otherwise_o then_o christ_n have_v appoint_v in_o his_o word_n hold_v humane_a person_n or_o consistory_n whatsoever_o all_o these_o you_o see_v do_v not_o only_o claim_v to_o a_o ius_n divinum_fw-la and_o that_o of_o a_o very_a high_a nature_n but_o in_o set_v down_o their_o opinion_n weave_v in_o some_o express_v tend_v to_o the_o diminution_n of_o the_o ecclesiastical_a supremacy_n of_o prince_n whereas_o the_o episcopal_a party_n neither_o meddle_v with_o the_o power_n of_o prince_n nor_o be_v ordinary_o very_o forward_o to_o press_v the_o ius_n divinum_fw-la but_o rather_o purposely_o decline_v the_o mention_v of_o it_o as_o a_o term_n subject_n to_o misconstruction_n as_o have_v be_v say_v or_o else_o so_o interpret_v it_o as_o not_o of_o necessity_n to_o import_v any_o more_o than_o a_o apostolical_a institution_n yet_o the_o apostle_n authority_n in_o that_o institution_n be_v warrant_v by_o the_o example_n and_o as_o they_o doubt_v not_o the_o direction_n of_o their_o master_n jesus_n christ_n they_o worthy_o esteem_v to_o be_v so_o reverend_a and_o obligatory_a as_o that_o they_o will_v not_o for_o a_o world_n have_v any_o hand_n in_o or_o willing_o and_o deliberate_o contribute_v the_o least_o assistance_n towards_o much_o less_o bind_v themselves_o by_o solemn_a league_n and_o covenant_n to_o endeavour_v the_o extirpation_n of_o that_o government_n but_o rather_o on_o the_o contrary_n hold_v themselves_o in_o their_o conscience_n oblige_v to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o their_o power_n to_o endeavour_v the_o preservation_n and_o continuance_n thereof_o in_o these_o church_n and_o do_v hearty_o wish_v the_o restitution_n and_o establishment_n of_o the_o same_o wheresoever_o it_o be_v not_o or_o wheresoever_o it_o have_v be_v heretofore_o under_o any_o whatsoever_o pretence_n unhappy_o lay_v aside_o or_o abolish_v xvi_o second_o the_o rest_n not_o by_o remote_a inference_n but_o by_o immediate_a and_o natural_a deduction_n out_o of_o their_o own_o acknowledge_a principle_n do_v some_o way_n or_o other_o deny_v the_o king_n supremacy_n in_o matter_n ecclesiastical_a either_o claim_v a_o power_n of_o jurisdiction_n over_o he_o or_o plead_v a_o privilege_n of_o exemption_n from_o under_o he_o the_o papist_n do_v it_o both_o way_n in_o their_o several_a doctrine_n of_o the_o pope_n supremacy_n and_o of_o the_o exemption_n of_o the_o clergy_n the_o puritance_n of_o both_o sort_n who_o think_v they_o have_v sufficient_o confute_v every_o thing_n they_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o mislike_v if_o they_o have_v once_o pronounce_v it_o popish_a and_o antichristian_a do_v yet_o herein_o as_o in_o very_a many_o other_o thing_n and_o some_o of_o they_o of_o the_o most_o dangerous_a consequence_n symbolize_v with_o the_o papist_n and_o after_o a_o sort_n divide_v that_o branch_n of_o antichristianisme_n whole_o between_o they_o the_o presbyterian_o claim_v to_o their_o consistory_n as_o full_a and_o absolute_a spiritual_a jurisdiction_n over_o prince_n with_o power_n even_o to_o excommunicate_v they_o if_o they_o shall_v see_v cause_n for_o it_o as_o the_o papist_n challenge_v to_o belong_v to_o the_o pope_n and_o the_o independent_o exempt_n their_o congregation_n from_o all_o spiritual_a subjection_n to_o they_o in_o as_o ample_a manner_n as_o the_o papist_n do_v their_o clergy_n whereas_o the_o english_a protestant_a bishop_n and_o regular_a clergy_n as_o become_v good_a christian_n and_o good_a subject_n do_v neither_o pretend_v to_o any_o jurisdiction_n over_o the_o king_n of_o england_n nor_o withdraw_v
the_o primary_n and_o most_o proper_a signification_n when_o it_o appear_v by_o some_o clear_a express_a and_o peremptory_a command_n of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n to_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o the_o thing_n so_o command_v shall_v be_v perpetual_o and_o universal_o observe_v of_o which_o sort_n set_v aside_o the_o article_n of_o the_o creed_n and_o the_o moral_a duty_n of_o the_o law_n which_o be_v not_o much_o pertinent_a to_o the_o present_a enquiry_n there_o be_v as_o i_o take_v it_o very_o few_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v proper_o say_v to_o be_v of_o divine_a positive_a right_n under_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o preach_v of_o the_o gospel_n and_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n be_v two_o which_o when_o i_o have_v name_v i_o think_v i_o have_v name_v all_o iu._n but_o there_o be_v a_o secondary_a and_o more_o extend_a signification_n of_o that_o term_n which_o be_v also_o of_o frequent_a use_n among_o divine_n in_o which_o sense_n such_o thing_n as_o have_v no_o express_a command_n in_o the_o word_n be_v yet_o find_v to_o have_v authority_n and_o warrant_n from_o the_o institution_n example_n or_o approbation_n either_o of_o christ_n himself_o or_o his_o apostle_n and_o have_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o importance_n and_o usefulness_n of_o the_o thing_n themselves_o be_v hold_v by_o the_o consentient_a judgement_n of_o all_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o primitive_a and_o succeed_a age_n needful_a to_o be_v continue_v such_o thing_n i_o say_v be_v though_o not_o so_o proper_o as_o the_o former_a yet_o usual_o and_o interpretatiuè_v say_v to_o be_v of_o divine_a right_n of_o which_o sort_n i_o take_v the_o observation_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n the_o order_n of_o the_o key_n the_o distinction_n of_o presbyter_n and_o deacon_n and_o some_o other_o thing_n not_o all_o perhaps_o of_o equal_a consequence_n to_o be_v unto_o ius_n divinum_fw-la in_o that_o former_a acception_n be_v require_v a_o divine_a precept_n in_o this_o late_a it_o suffice_v thereunto_o that_o a_o thing_n be_v of_o apostolical_a institution_n or_o practice_n which_o ambiguity_n be_v the_o more_o to_o be_v heed_v for_o that_o the_o observation_n thereof_o be_v of_o great_a use_n for_o the_o avoid_n of_o sundry_a mistake_n that_o through_o the_o ignorance_n or_o neglect_n thereof_o daily_o happen_v to_o the_o engage_v of_o man_n in_o endless_a dispute_n and_o entangle_v their_o conscience_n in_o unnecessary_a scruple_n v._o now_o that_o the_o government_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n by_o bishop_n be_v of_o divine_a right_n in_o that_o first_o and_o strict_a sense_n be_v a_o opinion_n at_o least_o of_o great_a probability_n and_o such_o as_o may_v more_o easy_o and_o upon_o better_a ground_n be_v defend_v then_o confute_v especial_o if_o in_o expound_v those_o text_n that_o be_v allege_v for_o it_o we_o give_v such_o deference_n to_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o ancient_a father_n and_o their_o exposition_n thereof_o as_o wise_a and_o sober_a man_n have_v always_o think_v it_o fit_v we_o shall_v do_v yet_o because_o it_o be_v both_o inexpedient_a to_o maintain_v a_o dispute_n where_o it_o need_v not_o and_o needless_a to_o contend_v for_o more_o where_o less_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n i_o find_v that_o our_o divine_n that_o have_v travail_v most_o in_o this_o argument_n where_o they_o not_o all_o of_o they_o necessary_o so_o to_o be_v understand_v as_o if_o they_o mean_v it_o in_o that_o first_o and_o strict_a sense_n sufficient_a it_o be_v for_o the_o justification_n of_o the_o
