scripture_n to_o each_o other_o with_o much_o seem_a seriousness_n when_o like_o the_o pharisee_n of_o old_a they_o will_v embrace_v any_o fair_a occasion_n that_o be_v offer_v to_o devour_v the_o house_n of_o a_o poor_a widow_n or_o orphan_n or_o to_o exalt_v themselves_o somewhat_o high_a in_o the_o world_n and_o what_o do_v thou_o think_v be_v the_o reason_n of_o these_o thing_n the_o same_o without_o doubt_n that_o hinder_v the_o jew_n of_o old_a from_o receive_v christ_n and_o if_o these_o truth_n which_o they_o profess_v to_o believe_v and_o these_o christian_a duty_n which_o they_o be_v constant_a in_o do_v as_o much_o oppose_v their_o worldly_a interest_n and_o fleshly_a lust_n as_o the_o acknowledge_v of_o jesus_n to_o be_v the_o christ_n do_v oppose_v the_o interest_n and_o lust_n of_o the_o unbelieve_a jew_n they_o will_v quick_o discover_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o by_o fall_v away_o from_o those_o truth_n and_o those_o duty_n if_o not_o also_o from_o the_o whole_a a_o strong_a bias_n upon_o their_o will_n draw_v they_o aside_o from_o those_o good_a path_n which_o they_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o walk_v in_o they_o purpose_v well_o in_o the_o general_n like_o the_o rich_a man_n before_o speak_v of_o when_o he_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o they_o do_v well_o in_o those_o thing_n that_o oppose_v not_o their_o inordinate_a affection_n but_o when_o they_o be_v to_o learn_v those_o duty_n to_o which_o their_o lust_n will_v not_o be_v reconcile_v either_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o understand_v they_o or_o have_v not_o the_o power_n to_o practice_v they_o as_o the_o wolf_n in_o the_o fable_n that_o be_v set_v to_o school_v to_o read_v can_v make_v no_o word_n of_o all_o the_o letter_n but_o a_o lamb_n because_o of_o his_o appetite_n to_o the_o flesh_n of_o that_o harmless_a creature_n so_o they_o can_v understand_v approve_v and_o follow_v nothing_o but_o what_o they_o love_v and_o be_v incline_v to_o or_o however_o nothing_o that_o cross_v their_o while_n and_o mount_v up_o to_o heaven_n in_o our_o own_o thought_n and_o in_o the_o opinion_n of_o the_o world_n but_o like_a as_o a_o unwise_a builder_n that_o raise_v a_o very_a fair_a structure_n upward_o not_o have_v lay_v a_o good_a and_o firm_a foundation_n will_v in_o a_o little_a time_n be_v convince_v of_o this_o error_n by_o its_o ruin_n so_o when_o a_o time_n of_o trial_n and_o temptation_n come_v our_o own_o fall_n will_v show_v we_o we_o when_o the_o wind_n blow_v and_o rains_n fall_v and_o the_o flood_n come_v our_o pretty_a frame_n of_o religion_n will_v come_v to_o ruin_n and_o our_o high_a raise_a hope_n will_v perish_v together_o with_o it_o now_o after_o this_o i_o suppose_v i_o need_v not_o tell_v thou_o that_o i_o have_v insist_v so_o much_o upon_o this_o care_n and_o to_o use_v the_o best_a skill_n thou_o have_v in_o the_o choice_n of_o thy_o guide_n and_o because_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o no_o little_a difficulty_n to_o make_v a_o right_a choice_n it_o will_v not_o i_o hope_v be_v think_v impertinent_a to_o give_v thou_o some_o assistance_n and_o 1._o i_o advise_v thou_o to_o betake_v thyself_o to_o thy_o closet_n and_o to_o beg_v of_o god_n to_o direct_v thou_o in_o thy_o choice_n though_o thou_o have_v ever_o so_o much_o skill_n in_o judge_v of_o man_n yet_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o in_o this_o case_n thou_o may_v be_v deceive_v and_o the_o more_o thou_o trust_v to_o thy_o own_o skill_n the_o great_a danger_n thou_o be_v in_o of_o be_v deceive_v god_n usual_o suffer_v those_o that_o have_v a_o great_a opinion_n of_o themselves_o to_o misearry_v in_o their_o best_a undertake_n and_o therefore_o in_o this_o as_o well_o as_o in_o other_o thing_n thy_o security_n lie_v in_o a_o humble_a confidence_n in_o god_n direction_n which_o thou_o be_v to_o beg_v of_o he_o by_o fervent_a prayer_n and_o though_o the_o blessing_n be_v great_a yet_o thou_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o doubt_v but_o thou_o shall_v obtain_v it_o if_o thou_o do_v ask_v aright_o for_o since_o he_o have_v do_v so_o much_o for_o thy_o soul_n already_o he_o will_v not_o deny_v thou_o any_o thing_n thou_o may_v be_v confident_a that_o he_o teach_v man_n how_o to_o provide_v for_o their_o body_n or_o to_o increase_v their_o estate_n be_v confess_v by_o all_o be_v there_o need_v of_o these_o guide_n for_o the_o first_o preach_v of_o christianity_n to_o the_o world_n and_o be_v there_o no_o need_n of_o they_o for_o the_o propagation_n and_o maintenance_n of_o it_o in_o the_o world_n i_o forbear_v to_o press_v thou_o with_o the_o natural_a blindness_n of_o man_n understanding_n with_o that_o inconsideration_n rashness_n levity_n inconstancy_n which_o be_v inseparable_a tof_o humane_a nature_n 〈◊〉_d also_o with_o that_o averseness_n to_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o the_o great_a interest_n of_o our_o soul_n which_o all_o man_n feel_v and_o good_a man_n can_v but_o complain_v of_o we_o may_v be_v confident_a that_o if_o christ_n have_v not_o know_v that_o the_o world_n need_v spiritual_a guide_n he_o will_v never_o have_v appoint_v any_o such_o nor_o have_v promise_v they_o those_o assistance_n which_o thou_o have_v now_o hear_v of_o nor_o have_v take_v any_o care_n to_o inform_v man_n of_o the_o duty_n they_o do_v owe_v unto_o they_o and_o therefore_o be_v not_o those_o man_n too_o much_o puff_v up_o in_o their_o fleshly_a mind_n or_o too_o regardless_o of_o their_o everlasting_a interest_n that_o account_v these_o guide_n to_o be_v of_o no_o use_n to_o they_o or_o be_v want_v in_o that_o respect_n for_o they_o and_o dependence_n upon_o they_o which_o they_o ought_v to_o have_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o thou_o will_v confess_v it_o but_o further_a do_v thou_o not_o understand_v by_o what_o have_v be_v say_v that_o man_n may_v receive_v very_o great_a advantage_n by_o their_o spiritual_a guide_n if_o they_o please_v themselves_o sure_o those_o of_o old_a that_o receive_v they_o as_o the_o galatian_n do_v chap._n 4.14_o as_o the_o angel_n of_o god_n yea_o even_o as_o christ_n jesus_n do_v believe_v so_o beside_o be_v not_o the_o make_n of_o this_o provision_n for_o the_o good_a of_o man_n soul_n a_o great_a demonstration_n of_o christ_n love_n and_o care_n for_o they_o and_o therefore_o must_v not_o they_o be_v great_a despiser_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n and_o enemy_n to_o their_o own_o soul_n that_o make_v little_a account_n of_o it_o and_o seek_v no_o advantage_n by_o it_o or_o can_v they_o with_o the_o least_o shadow_n of_o reason_n call_v themselves_o christian_n or_o expect_v to_o be_v partaker_n of_o those_o benefit_n which_o he_o have_v promise_v to_o his_o faithful_a servant_n who_o have_v no_o regard_n at_o all_o to_o his_o ordinance_n and_o institution_n these_o demand_n according_a to_o my_o heart_n desire_v and_o therefore_o thou_o can_v not_o but_o acknowledge_v that_o my_o advice_n be_v good_a and_o useful_a that_o thou_o commit_v thy_o soul_n to_o the_o care_n and_o conduct_v of_o a_o spiritual_a guide_n i_o proceed_v now_o to_o show_v thou_o brief_o how_o thou_o must_v practice_v this_o advice_n the_o practice_n of_o the_o former_a advice_n 1._o thou_o must_v make_v choice_n of_o a_o good_a guide_n i_o call_v he_o a_o good_a guide_n who_o have_v authority_n from_o christ_n be_v able_a to_o direct_v thou_o aright_o in_o all_o the_o concern_v of_o thy_o soul_n and_o will_v be_v faithful_a to_o thou_o christ_n have_v no_o where_o promise_v that_o none_o shall_v take_v upon_o they_o to_o be_v guide_n of_o soul_n but_o those_o that_o have_v authority_n from_o he_o nor_o that_o all_o those_o that_o have_v authority_n from_o he_o shall_v discharge_v their_o office_n faithful_o among_o his_o twelve_o apostle_n there_o be_v a_o judas_n and_o among_o the_o seven_o deacon_n ordain_v by_o the_o apostle_n tradition_n tell_v we_o there_o be_v one_o that_o fail_v and_o in_o those_o write_n that_o we_o have_v of_o some_o of_o the_o feign_a word_n make_v merchandise_n of_o they_o 2_o pet._n 2.1_o 2_o 3._o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o matter_n of_o wonder_n if_o there_o be_v some_o such_o among_o we_o now_o but_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v matter_n of_o caution_n to_o thou_o with_o who_o thou_o do_v trust_v thy_o soul_n thy_o soul_n be_v a_o jewel_n of_o too_o great_a value_n to_o be_v put_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o every_o pretender_n yea_o or_o of_o every_o one_o
