the_o petition_n reject_v by_o the_o parliament_n be_v tender_v to_o they_o in_o behalf_n of_o lieut_n col._n john_n lilburn_n and_o in_o behalf_n of_o the_o liberty_n of_o all_o the_o people_n of_o england_n high_o violate_v by_o their_o unjust_a act_n make_v for_o his_o banishment_n confiscation_n of_o his_o estate_n and_o in_o render_v he_o a_o felon_n if_o he_o shall_v return_v now_o publish_v he_o be_v peaceable_o return_v and_o cast_v himself_o in_o all_o humility_n upon_o the_o justice_n of_o his_o cause_n and_o the_o conscience_n of_o these_o know_a time_n the_o parliament_n who_o unjust_o banish_v he_o and_o seek_v his_o life_n be_v dissolve_v and_o most_o especial_o intend_v to_o satisfy_v and_o true_o inform_v all_o ingenious_a and_o conscionable_a people_n of_o the_o injustice_n and_o cruelty_n of_o the_o parliament_n proceed_n against_o he_o who_o life_n for_o many_o year_n have_v be_v eager_o seek_v and_o thirst_v after_o as_o be_v most_o remarkable_o evident_a by_o his_o trial_n at_o guild-hal_n london_n octob._n 24._o 1649._o where_o god_n through_o the_o conscience_n of_o his_o jury_n wonderful_o deliver_v he_o and_o by_o which_o reject_a petition_n if_o right_o and_o true_o weigh_v it_o will_v appear_v that_o the_o say_a act_n of_o parliament_n be_v a_o unlawful_a and_o bloody_a act_n and_o be_v null_a and_o void_a in_o itself_o in_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o know_a fundamental_a law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o therefore_o every_o one_o that_o shall_v have_v any_o hand_n in_o take_v away_o his_o life_n by_o force_n of_o that_o act_n be_v by_o the_o true_a law_n of_o england_n no_o less_o than_o a_o murderer_n and_o no_o murderer_n can_v escape_v the_o judgement_n and_o vengeance_n of_o god_n but_o with_o his_o own_o draw_v a_o curse_n upon_o his_o family_n and_o posterity_n from_o which_o the_o lord_n preserve_v every_o well-meaning_a honest_a man_n read_v this_o refuse_a petition_n with_o the_o same_o feel_n and_o affection_n as_o if_o his_o case_n be_v you_o for_o so_o indeed_o it_o be_v if_o you_o right_o consider_v that_o you_o be_v all_o englishman_n and_o do_v for_o his_o preservation_n as_o you_o will_v be_v do_v for_o in_o his_o condition_n to_o the_o supreme_a authority_n the_o parliament_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n of_o england_n the_o humble_a petition_n of_o divers_a well-affected_a people_n inhabit_v the_o city_n of_o london_n westminster_n the_o borough_n of_o southwark_n and_o place_n adjacent_a be_v their_o second_o petition_n in_o behalf_n of_o lieut_n col._n john_n lilburn_n and_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n humble_o show_v that_o inasmuch_o as_o during_o this_o life_n experience_n of_o all_o age_n prove_v that_o the_o wise_a of_o man_n and_o counsel_n be_v liable_a to_o error_n and_o that_o not_o only_o former_a parliament_n in_o many_o thing_n have_v be_v very_o much_o mistake_v but_o that_o even_o this_o parliament_n also_o in_o its_o several_a time_n have_v not_o be_v exempt_v from_o humane_a frailty_n do_v at_o one_o time_n upon_o a_o sudden_a misapprehension_n what_o at_o another_o time_n they_o have_v so_o far_o disapprove_v as_o to_o cause_v the_o same_o with_o all_o its_o circumstance_n to_o be_v raze_v out_o of_o all_o remembrance_n which_o we_o mention_v not_o any_o way_n to_o reflect_v immodest_o upon_o any_o but_o our_o most_o humble_a thought_n be_v to_o incline_v you_o to_o a_o readiness_n of_o condescension_n in_o all_o case_n to_o hear_v the_o reason_n of_o those_o for_o who_o you_o be_v trust_v and_o at_o this_o time_n serious_o and_o patient_o to_o consider_v what_o in_o our_o last_o we_o offer_v or_o what_o in_o this_o our_o humble_a address_n we_o shall_v offer_v in_o behalf_n of_o lieut_n col._n john_n lilburn_n and_o our_o fundamental_a native_a right_n high_o concern_v in_o your_o proceed_n against_o he_o and_o likewise_o to_o induce_v you_o meek_o to_o inquire_v whether_o as_o all_o the_o error_n and_o inconvenience_n of_o all_o other_o authority_n so_o also_o those_o which_o parliament_n have_v at_o any_o time_n unhappy_o incur_v have_v not_o arise_v from_o their_o deviation_n from_o that_o certain_a rule_n the_o fundamental_a law_n of_o the_o land_n which_o this_o parliament_n in_o its_o first_o estate_n and_o first_o remonstrance_n declare_v to_o be_v the_o common_a birthright_n of_o the_o people_n of_o england_n and_o when_o through_o long_a continuance_n in_o power_n and_o sway_v of_o corrupt_a interest_n the_o major_a part_n thereof_o by_o numerous_a oppression_n discern_v though_o too_o late_o their_o own_o deviation_n they_o also_o acknowledge_v in_o their_o declaration_n of_o the_o 17._o april_n 1646._o that_o nothing_o ought_v to_o be_v do_v that_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o our_o fundamental_a law_n and_o that_o although_o the_o necessity_n of_o war_n have_v give_v some_o disturbance_n to_o legal_a proceed_n stop_v the_o usual_a course_n of_o justice_n enforce_v the_o parliament_n for_o preservation_n of_o this_o state_n to_o impose_v and_o require_v many_o great_a and_o unusual_a payment_n from_o the_o people_n and_o to_o take_v extraordinary_a way_n to_o procure_v money_n for_o their_o press_a occasion_n it_o have_v as_o they_o there_o say_v please_v god_n to_o reduce_v our_o affair_n into_o a_o more_o hopeful_a condition_n then_o heretofore_o we_o do_v declare_v that_o we_o will_v not_o nor_o any_o by_o colour_n of_o any_o authority_n from_o we_o shall_v interrupt_v the_o ordinary_a course_n of_o justice_n in_o the_o several_a court_n of_o indicatories_n in_o this_o nation_n nor_o intermeddle_v in_o case_n of_o private_a interest_n otherwise_o determinable_a unless_o it_o be_v in_o case_n of_o male_a administration_n of_o justice_n wherein_o we_o shall_v see_v and_o provide_v that_o right_n be_v do_v and_o punishment_n inflict_v as_o there_o shall_v be_v occasion_n according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o the_o trust_v repose_v in_o we_o and_o when_o notwithstanding_o all_o these_o excellent_a expression_n they_o proceed_v in_o their_o former_a evil_a way_n multiply_v oppression_n upon_o oppression_n still_o contrary_a to_o those_o fundamental_n as_o they_o do_v near_o the_o time_n of_o the_o expiration_n of_o hollis_n and_o stapteton_n and_o their_o corrupt_a faction_n and_o that_o to_o so_o great_a a_o fright_n as_o enforce_v the_o army_n to_o appear_v in_o opposition_n to_o their_o evil_a practice_n the_o worthy_a army_n by_o their_o declaration_n the_o 14._o june_n 1647._o undertake_v then_o in_o these_o worthy_a expression_n that_o the_o complete_a settlement_n of_o the_o liberty_n and_o peace_n of_o the_o nation_n be_v that_o blessing_n of_o god_n then_o of_o which_o all_o worldly_a thing_n nothing_o be_v more_o dear_a or_o precious_a in_o their_o thought_n have_v hitherto_o think_v all_o present_a enjoyment_n whether_o of_o life_n or_o livelihood_n or_o near_a relation_n a_o price_n but_o sufficient_a to_o the_o purchase_n of_o so_o rich_a a_o blessing_n that_o we_o and_o all_o the_o free-born-people_n of_o this_o nation_n may_v sit_v down_o in_o quiet_a under_o our_o vine_n under_o the_o glorious_a administration_n of_o justice_n and_o righteousness_n and_o in_o full_a possession_n of_o those_o fundamental_a right_n and_o liberty_n without_o which_o we_o can_v have_v little_a hope_n to_o enjoy_v any_o comfort_n of_o life_n or_o so_o much_o as_o life_n itself_o but_o at_o the_o pleasure_n of_o some_o man_n rule_v mere_o by_o will_n and_o power_n and_o declare_v further_o that_o they_o be_v not_o a_o mere_a mercenary_a army_n hire_v to_o serve_v any_o arbitrary_a power_n of_o a_o state_n but_o call_v forth_o and_o conjure_v by_o the_o several_a declaration_n of_o parliament_n to_o the_o defence_n of_o our_o own_o and_o the_o people_n just_a right_n and_o liberty_n and_o so_o we_o take_v up_o arm_n in_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n to_o those_o end_n so_o as_o all_o thing_n due_o weigh_v we_o humble_o conceive_v that_o nothing_o be_v more_o manifest_a then_o that_o there_o be_v belong_v to_o we_o and_o the_o nation_n fundamental_a liberty_n which_o be_v our_o birthright_n and_o the_o chief_a inheritance_n of_o the_o people_n of_o england_n and_o that_o their_o restoration_n be_v the_o only_a justifiable_a ground_n of_o the_o late_a war_n against_o the_o king_n and_o of_o all_o the_o extraordinary_a motion_n and_o proceed_n of_o the_o army_n against_o the_o seclude_v member_n of_o parliament_n and_o that_o successive_a parliament_n be_v but_o a_o principal_a part_n of_o those_o right_n institute_v for_o conservation_n of_o public_a peace_n and_o for_o defence_n and_o preservation_n of_o those_o fundamental_n and_o that_o they_o have_v not_o authority_n to_o the_o contrary_n and_o we_o do_v also_o humble_o conceive_v it_o to_o be_v a_o essential_a and_o fundamental_a right_n that_o no_o freeman_n of_o england_n ought_v to_o be_v adjudge_v of_o life_n limb_n liberty_n or_o estate_n but_o only_o by_o juries_n according_a to_o the_o
