defection_n and_o apostasy_n in_o such_o deal_n as_o of_o most_o dangerous_a consequence_n to_o all_o the_o law_n and_o freedom_n of_o the_o people_n and_o therefore_o although_o there_o have_v never_o be_v any_o such_o solemn_a engagement_n by_o the_o army_n as_o that_o of_o june_n 5._o 1647._o which_o with_o your_o excellency_n in_o point_n of_o duty_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v of_o the_o the_o great_a encroachment_n upon_o our_o law_n and_o liberty_n that_o can_v be_v act_v against_o we_o and_o particular_o against_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o soldier_n of_o captain_n savage_n troup_n dispute_n about_o their_o pay_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o our_o protestation_n be_v from_o the_o petition_n of_o right_n make_v in_o the_o three_o year_n of_o the_o late_a king_n which_o declare_v that_o no_o person_n ought_v to_o be_v judge_v by_o law_n martial_a except_o in_o time_n of_o war_n and_o that_o all_o commission_n give_v to_o execute_v martial_a law_n in_o time_n of_o high_a treason_n and_o the_o parliament_n itself_o neither_o by_o act_n nor_o ordinance_n can_v just_o or_o warrantable_o destroy_v the_o fundamental_a liberty_n and_o principle_n of_o the_o common_a law_n of_o england_n it_o be_v a_o maxim_n in_o law_n and_o reason_n both_o that_o all_o such_o act_n and_o ordinance_n be_v ipso_fw-la facto_fw-la null_a and_o void_a in_o law_n and_o bind_v not_o
