first_o by_o this_o vote_n the_o house_n do_v not_o determine_v as_o we_o conceive_v the_o have_v no_o further_a treaty_n with_o his_o majesty_n before_o a_o conclude_v and_o declare_v of_o peace_n nor_o be_v the_o house_n so_o bind_v up_o hereby_o that_o they_o can_v not_o propose_v any_o thing_n further_o wherein_o the_o king_n answer_n be_v defective_a or_o from_o make_v any_o new_a proposition_n for_o the_o better_a heal_v our_o b●e●ches_n or_o more_o safe_a bind_n up_o a_o just_a and_o righteous_a peace_n which_o as_o it_o do_v appear_v by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o vote_n either_o of_o these_o have_v former_o ensue_v to_o this_o kingdom_n our_o own_o history_n tell_v we_o although_o for_o the_o latter_a which_o we_o unwilling_o mention_v there_o be_v never_o any_o precedent_n for_o it_o in_o this_o kingdom_n nor_o ever_o make_v by_o any_o protestant_n in_o the_o world_n and_o we_o desire_v it_o may_v never_o be_v do_v by_o any_o in_o this_o kingdom_n be_v that_o which_o from_o our_o heart_n we_o do_v detest_v and_o abhor_v we_o can_v but_o remember_v in_o the_o end_n of_o our_o war_n the_o day_n wherein_o god_n have_v give_v we_o prosperity_n the_o break_v the_o covenant_n in_o not_o insist_v more_o for_o it_o but_o for_o the_o covenant_n we_o say_v the_o king_n answer_n take_v away_o church_n government_n by_o arch_a bishop_n bishop_n etc._n etc._n by_o take_v away_o their_o court_n and_o so_o far_o take_v away_o their_o power_n of_o ordination_n that_o it_o can_v never_o be_v revive_v again_o but_o by_o a_o act_n of_o parliament_n so_o that_o episcopacy_n be_v divest_v of_o any_o actual_a being_n by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o instead_o thereof_o the_o presbyterian_a government_n be_v put_v into_o possession_n by_o a_o law_n for_o three_o year_n and_o we_o say_v that_o the_o king_n have_v grant_v the_o rest_n of_o the_o proposition_n and_o so_o much_o in_o this_o the_o covenant_n do_v not_o oblige_v we_o to_o make_v war_n upon_o this_o point_n to_o gain_v what_o we_o desire_v after_o the_o three_o year_n and_o shall_v real_o and_o constant_o endeavour_v to_o obtain_v in_o our_o place_n and_o calling_n nothing_o can_v have_v make_v the_o kingdom_n more_o irreconsileable_a to_o the_o presbytery_n then_o to_o have_v make_v that_o the_o sole_a obstruction_n of_o the_o peace_n and_o state_n of_o warre●_n and_o it_o be_v evident_a except_o we_o shall_v put_v out_o the_o eye_n of_o our_o reason_n that_o beside_o the_o hope_n we_o may_v have_v of_o his_o majesty_n come_v near_o to_o we_o in_o this_o point_n and_o in_o the_o covenant_n itself_o upon_o our_o come_n near_o to_o he_o in_o the_o absolute_a conclude_v and_o declar●ng_v of_o peace_n the_o parliament_n by_o what_o be_v grant_v already_o be_v put_v into_o a_o better_a capacity_n for_o settle_v presbytery_n by_o a_o perpetual_a law_n then_o as_o thing_n now_o stand_v they_o can_v reasonable_o presume_v of_o by_o the_o continuance_n of_o war_n the_o power_n of_o the_o sword_n apparent_o threaten_v not_o only_o the_o destruction_n of_o this_o government_n of_o the_o church_n but_o the_o being_n of_o the_o church_n if_o almighty_a god_n prevent_v not_o by_o strike_v at_o the_o foundation_n of_o our_o faith_n contemn_v conscientious_a minister_n and_o ministry_n itself_o take_v away_o their_o maintenance_n obstruct_v the_o reformation_n of_o the_o university_n slight_v of_o learning_n and_o profess_o promote_a a_o most_o licentious_a toleration_n for_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n heresy_n schism_n and_o profaneness_n in_o the_o kingdom_n this_o be_v our_o present_a condition_n we_o hope_v we_o shall_v be_v sufficient_o clear_v from_o the_o least_o suspicion_n of_o decline_v in_o our_o zeal_n to_o the_o covenant_n which_o we_o have_v take_v in_o what_o we_o have_v do_v for_o the_o public_a faith_n pass_v upon_o the_o sale_n of_o bishop_n land_n we_o say_v that_o though_o the_o purchaser_n may_v have_v afford_v to_o have_v give●_z the_o same_o rate_n for_o their_o purchase_n if_o they_o may_v have_v have_v they_o assure_v to_o they_o by_o act_n of_o parliament●for_n 99_o year_n and_o such_o moderate_a ●ents_n reserve_v as_o the_o king_n ●●timated_v in_o his_o answer_n yet_o according_a to_o his_o answer_n express_v further_o a_o satisfaction_n to_o be_v give_v to_o they_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v consent_v to_o any_o such_o act_n of_o parliament_n for_o settle_v the_o remainder_n in_o he_o and_o ensure_a the_o say_a rent_n until_o the_o purchaser_n who_o be_v in_o possession_n and_o still_o hold_v by_o the_o same_o title_n under_o which_o they_o buy_v they_o shall_v be_v satisfy_v and_o in_o case_n they_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o satisfy_v we_o be_v not_o by_o the_o say_a vote_n conclude_v from_o insist_v further_o for_o a_o full_a confirmation_n of_o their_o purchase_n have_v never_o actual_o agree_v with_o the_o king_n upon_o any_o such_o term_n but_o prest●_n it_o be_v the_o last_o to_o get_v a_o full_a confirmation_n thereof_o and_o only_o vote_v that_o this_o be_v a_o sufficient_a ground_n to_o proceed_v further_o and_o now_o we_o appeal_v to_o the_o purchaser_n the_o kingdom_n nor_o be_v the_o continuance_n of_o this_o parliament_n object_v at_o large_a but_o that_o we_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o render_v our_o power_n back_o again_o to_o the_o people_n by_o which_o mean_n as_o their_o other_o paper_n and_o action_n tell_v we_o a_o new_a representative_a make_v by_o the_o army_n so_o that_o the_o complaint_n in_o effect_n be_v that_o we_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o render_v the_o power_n put_v into_o we_o for_o the_o government_n of_o the_o kingdom_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o army_n which_o we_o con●esse_v we_o think_v we_o ought_v not_o to_o do_v but_o as_o there_o be_v little_a doubt_n to_o be_v make_v that_o before_o a_o absolute_a conclusion_n of_o peace_n with_o the_o king_n a_o act_n may_v have_v be_v have_v for_o put_v a_o period_n in_o short_a time_n to_o this_o parliament_n we_o for_o our_o part_n when_o the_o kingdom_n shall_v have_v be_v in_o quiet_a possession_n of_o these_o proposition_n by_o act_n of_o parliament_n upon_o the_o conclusion_n and_o settlement_n of_o peace_n there_o be_v no_o person_n live_v will_v be_v more_o desirous_a than_o ourselves_o to_o put_v a_o period_n to_o our_o service_n in_o parliament_n and_o leave_v it_o to_o the_o care_n of_o succeed_a parliament_n to_o preserve_v what_o this_o have_v gain_v to_o our_o posterity_n we_o shall_v have_v end_v this_o point_n here_o but_o for_o one_o objection_n more_o which_o be_v make_v by_o their_o other_o paper_n against_o any_o agreement_n with_o the_o king_n viz._n that_o whatsoever_o the_o king_n grant_v in_o this_o treaty_n he_o may_v plead_v force_n to_o break_v it_o and_o that_o for_o any_o thing_n can_v be_v discover_v he_o be_v like_a to_o use_v his_o endeavour_n to_o spoil_v we_o by_o policy_n of_o what_o we_o have_v gain_v by_o the_o expense_n of_o so_o much_o blood_n for_o answer_v hereunto_o we_o say_v first_o that_o this_o objection_n lie_v against_o any_o agreement_n with_o the_o king_n though_o he_o grant_v all_o the_o house_n desire_v or_o can_v desire_v and_o against_o any_o agreement_n betwixt_o king_n and_o people_n after_o a_o war_n make_v it_o can_v hardly_o be_v imagine_v after_o such_o difference_n but_o that_o for_o sometime_o animosity_n will_v remain_v and_o a_o disposition_n in_o those_o who_o think_v they_o have_v lose_v any_o part_n of_o their_o power_n to_o regain_v it_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o all_o man_n in_o power_n to_o increase_v their_o power_n that_o this_o objection_n lie_v as_o strong_a against_o all_o former_a treaty_n with_o his_o majesty_n for_o peace_n after_o the_o war_n begin_v and_o against_o the_o declare_a end_n of_o the_o parliament_n war_n and_o of_o all_o just_a war_n a_o good_a peace_n with_o his_o majesty_n but_o more_o particular_o we_o say_v that_o the_o weight_n of_o this_o objection_n depend_v only_o upon_o a_o uncertain_a conjecture_n of_o what_o may_v or_o may_v not_o be_v hereafter_o and_o the_o former_a experience_n which_o this_o kingdom_n have_v have_v in_o keep_v such_o agreement_n make_v in_o the_o heat_n of_o former_a difference_n strengthen_v we_o against_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o danger_n of_o it_o and_o though_o sometime_o the_o king_n of_o this_o realm_n and_o particular_o this_o king_n have_v adventure_v to_o weaken_v their_o own_o grant_n for_o a_o time_n yet_o they_o have_v ever_o be_v regain_v with_o advantage_n
