shall_v reprove_v or_o convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n it_o do_v not_o first_o work_v faith_n but_o convince_v they_o that_o they_o have_v no_o faith_n as_o in_o verse_n 9_o and_o consequent_o under_o the_o guilt_n and_o dominion_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o after_o this_o he_o convince_v of_o righteousness_n which_o faith_n apprehend_v verse_n 10._o it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o word_n conviction_n here_o be_v of_o a_o large_a extent_n and_o include_v compunction_n and_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n yet_o our_o saviour_n wrap_v they_o up_o in_o this_o word_n because_o conviction_n be_v the_o first_o and_o therefore_o the_o chief_a in_o order_n here_o the_o lord_n not_o speak_v now_o of_o ineffectual_a but_o effectual_a and_o thorough_a conviction_n express_v in_o deep_a sorrow_n his_o law_n to_o do_v otherwise_o and_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n in_o make_v use_n of_o the_o law_n for_o this_o end_n first_o convince_v as_o it_o first_o accuse_v and_o lay_v our_o sin_n to_o our_o charge_n last_o look_v as_o satan_n when_o he_o bind_v up_o a_o sinner_n in_o his_o sin_n he_o first_o keep_v he_o if_o possible_a from_o the_o very_a sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o it_o because_o so_o long_o as_o they_o see_v it_o not_o this_o ignorance_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o their_o woe_n why_o they_o feel_v it_o not_o why_o they_o desire_v not_o to_o come_v out_o of_o it_o as_o the_o pleasure_n in_o sin_n be_v exceed_o sweet_a to_o a_o sinner_n so_o the_o sorrow_n for_o it_o must_v be_v exceed_o bitter_a before_o the_o soul_n will_v part_v from_o it_o it_o be_v true_a i_o confess_v a_o man_n sometime_o may_v part_v with_o sin_n without_o sorrow_n the_o unclean_a spirit_n may_v go_v out_o for_o a_o time_n before_o he_o be_v take_v bind_v and_o slay_v by_o the_o power_n of_o christ._n but_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o part_v be_v but_o the_o wash_n of_o the_o cup_n it_o be_v unsafe_a and_o unsound_a and_o the_o end_n of_o such_o a_o christian_a will_v be_v vile_a hard_a blind_a and_o most_o wicked_a heart_n if_o i_o be_v more_o humble_v and_o more_o holy_a than_o i_o will_v go_v to_o he_o and_o think_v he_o will_v come_v to_o i_o oh_o for_o the_o lord_n sake_n dishonour_v not_o the_o grace_n of_o christ._n it_o be_v true_a thou_o can_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n till_o thou_o be_v load_v and_o humble_v and_o separate_v from_o thy_o sin_n thou_o can_v not_o be_v ingraft_v into_o this_o olive_n unless_o thou_o be_v cut_v and_o cut_v off_o too_o from_o thy_o old_a root_n yet_o remember_v for_o ever_o that_o no_o more_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n no_o
