i_o r_n a_o proclamation_n anent_o the_o sumptuary_n law_n james_n by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n king_n of_o great-britain_n france_n and_o ireland_n defender_n of_o the_o faith_n to_o macer_n of_o our_o privy_a council_n or_o messenger_n at_o arm_n our_o sheriff_n in_o that_o part_n conjunct_o and_o several_o special_o constitute_v greeting_n forasmuch_o as_o albeit_o we_o have_v by_o our_o several_a proclamation_n and_o our_o act_n of_o parliament_n date_v the_o day_n of_o ______o ratifying_n and_o approve_v the_o same_o give_v all_o encouragement_n to_o manufactur_n within_o this_o kingdom_n by_o prohibit_v the_o import_v of_o these_o thing_n which_o may_v discourage_v the_o same_o and_o for_o promove_v the_o interest_n thereof_o in_o manner_n at_o length_n mention_v in_o these_o proclamation_n and_o act_n of_o parliament_n yet_o understand_v that_o the_o same_o have_v not_o receive_v that_o due_a obedience_n which_o be_v require_v and_o by_o we_o design_v to_o the_o end_n foresay_a as_o we_o hereby_o with_o advice_n of_o our_o privy_a council_n revive_v and_o renew_v all_o the_o foresaid_n law_n make_v in_o favour_n of_o manufactur_n and_o for_o prohibit_v and_o discharge_v the_o import_v or_o wear_v what_o be_v thereby_o prohibit_v so_o we_o also_o strict_o require_v and_o command_v the_o same_o to_o be_v put_v to_o due_a and_o vigorous_a execution_n every_o manner_n of_o way_n as_o be_v thereby_o prescribe_v and_o for_o further_a clear_v of_o our_o subject_n as_o to_o what_o may_v be_v wear_v or_o not_o beside_o what_o be_v already_o allow_v we_o with_o advice_n foresay_a do_v hereby_o prohibit_v and_o discharge_v all_o embroidery_n of_o hair_n thread_n buggle_n except_o what_o be_v embroider_v within_o this_o kingdom_n to_o be_v make_v use_n of_o any_o manner_n of_o way_n as_o also_o the_o wear_n of_o any_o new_a invention_n which_o may_v render_v our_o say_n proclamation_n and_o act_n of_o parliament_n elusory_a and_o likewise_o the_o import_v or_o wear_v of_o all_o english-cloath_n save_v where_o the_o same_o be_v bring_v in_o be_v make_v and_o wear_v abroad_o for_o some_o time_n or_o where_o clothes_n be_v already_o make_v thereof_o within_o this_o kingdom_n as_o also_o the_o wear_n of_o all_o stuff_n or_o prohibit_v clothes_n abroad_o or_o in_o the_o street_n under_o the_o pretence_n of_o night-gown_n or_o un_fw-fr dress_n under_o the_o pain_n and_o certification_n contain_v in_o our_o say_n proclamation_n and_o act_n of_o parliament_n and_o for_o the_o more_o effectual_a prosecution_n of_o this_o our_o pleasure_n we_o hereby_o require_v and_o command_v all_o our_o judge_n and_o magistrate_n within_o this_o kingdom_n to_o see_v this_o our_o proclamation_n now_o as_o former_o due_o put_v in_o execution_n and_o as_o a_o further_a addition_n to_o what_o be_v already_o allow_v to_o be_v wear_v we_o hereby_o allow_v the_o wear_n of_o all_o drop_v spot_v figure_v and_o chequer_v stuff_n within_o this_o kingdom_n where_o the_o same_o do_v not_o exceed_v seven_o shilling_n sterling_a the_o yard_n at_o most_o without_o incur_v any_o penalty_n or_o hazard_n upon_o that_o account_n and_o that_o our_o pleasure_n herein_o may_v be_v know_v our_o will_n be_v and_o we_o charge_v you_o strict_o and_o command_v that_o incontinent_a these_o our_o letter_n see_v you_o pass_v to_o mercat-cross_n of_o edinburgh_n and_o all_o other_o place_n needful_a and_o there_o in_o our_o royal_a name_n and_o authority_n by_o open_a proclamation_n make_v publication_n of_o our_o pleasure_n in_o the_o premise_n that_o punctual_a obedience_n may_v be_v give_v thereto_o and_o none_o pretend_v ignorance_n give_v under_o our_o signet_n at_o edinburgh_n the_o sixteenth_o day_n of_o september_n 1686._o and_o of_o our_o reign_n the_o second_o year_n per_fw-la actum_fw-la dominorum_fw-la secreti_fw-la concilii_fw-la will._n paterson_n cls._n sti._n concilii_fw-la god_n save_v the_o king_n edinburgh_n print_v by_o the_o heir_n of_o andrew_n anderson_n printer_n to_o his_o most_o sacred_a majesty_n anno_fw-la dom._n 1686._o
