colour_n when_o they_o compeer_n before_o the_o light_n of_o naked_a truth_n and_o they_o will_v see_v that_o what_o these_o minister_n do_v in_o exercise_v their_o ministry_n in_o these_o desolate_a congregation_n when_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o good_a providence_n have_v give_v they_o peaceable_a access_n thereto_o be_v so_o evident_o a_o religious_a work_n a_o labour_n of_o love_n a_o work_n of_o mercy_n a_o seasonable_a expedient_a necessary_a work_n
a_o way_n for_o himself_o to_o escape_v but_o he_o must_v not_o go_v so_o i_o shall_v therefore_o reinforce_v the_o argument_n thus_o if_o it_o be_v unlawful_a for_o all_o the_o minister_n or_o all_o the_o out_v minister_n in_o a_o kingdom_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n if_o the_o magistrate_n by_o virtue_n of_o a_o usurp_a supremacy_n and_o for_o a_o ill_a end_n command_v they_o to_o preach_v here_o and_o there_o and_o under_o such_o and_o such_o limitation_n and_o restriction_n then_o a_o magistrate_n by_o such_o a_o command_n without_o any_o more_o ado_n may_v banish_v all_o preach_v out_o of_o his_o dominion_n but_o the_o latter_a be_v absurd_a and_o so_o be_v the_o former_a i_o see_v not_o how_o upon_o his_o principle_n this_o absurdity_n can_v be_v evit_v for_o if_o a_o few_o minister_n may_v not_o lawful_o preach_v if_o they_o be_v so_o command_v and_o restrict_v how_o can_v many_o preach_v lawful_o â—f_o so_o command_v and_o restrict_v but_o you_o will_v say_v there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n betwixt_o many_o and_o few_o i_o grant_v there_o be_v a_o arithmetical_a difference_n but_o it_o be_v nothing_o to_o the_o present_a purpose_n for_o if_o the_o restriction_n do_v vitiate_v the_o preach_n of_o a_o few_o it_o will_v also_o vitiate_v the_o preach_n of_o many_o for_o moral_a filth_n be_v not_o like_o natural_a filth_n diminish_v by_o spread_v but_o be_v rather_o increase_v if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o if_o all_o minister_n be_v so_o command_v to_o preach_v they_o may_v frustrate_v the_o magistrate_n ill_a intention_n and_o sinful_a instruction_n by_o drive_v on_o the_o great_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o observe_v christ_n instruction_n i_o answer_v a_o few_o of_o they_o may_v do_v the_o same_o what_o shall_v hinder_v a_o few_o of_o they_o to_o do_v what_o all_o may_v do_v 5._o if_o a_o small_a number_n may_v not_o lawful_o preach_v if_o there_o be_v such_o restriction_n superad_v to_o the_o command_n of_o preach_v than_o it_o be_v still_o easy_a for_o the_o magistrate_n to_o put_v all_o from_o preach_v by_o write_v such_o and_o such_o restriction_n for_o it_o will_v take_v but_o a_o little_a more_o time_n to_o do_v it_o for_o first_o he_o may_v send_v his_o command_n to_o preach_v and_o his_o instruction_n to_o a_o few_o and_o they_o may_v not_o lawful_o preach_v because_o they_o be_v but_o a_o few_o and_o when_o they_o be_v lay_v by_o he_o send_v his_o command_n to_o preach_v with_o instruction_n to_o another_o small_a number_n of_o they_o and_o so_o on_o till_o he_o have_v put_v all_o of_o they_o from_o preach_v for_o many_o small_a be_v will_v amount_v to_o all_o be-time_n in_o his_o 6_o he_o grant_v that_o when_o that_o which_o the_o magistrate_n command_v by_o virtue_n of_o his_o supremacy_n be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o necessary_a by_o virtue_n of_o a_o command_n of_o god_n the_o prefix_v of_o the_o supremacy_n can_v alter_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o duty_n he_o may_v have_v add_v that_o the_o affix_v of_o the_o restriction_n can_v no_o more_o alter_v the_o nature_n of_o a_o duty_n than_o the_o prefix_v of_o the_o supremacy_n can_v alter_v it_o but_o he_o add_v that_o he_o have_v above_o clear_v that_o what_o be_v do_v by_o the_o indulge_v minister_n be_v neither_o expedient_a nor_o lawful_a but_o he_o have_v never_o clear_v it_o but_o it_o have_v be_v supremacy_n why_o shall_v not_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o already_o settle_a minister_n be_v so_o too_o why_o may_v not_o a_o declaration_n salve_v all_o in_o the_o minister_n that_o be_v out_o as_o well_o as_o in_o these_o who_o be_v in_o if_o this_o be_v a_o acknowledge_v of_o the_o unlawful_a supremacy_n i_o wonder_v why_o he_o shall_v be_v in_o any_o demur_n the_o argument_n i_o perceive_v have_v strange_o puzzle_v he_o if_o he_o be_v not_o positive_a that_o a_o command_n to_o which_o the_o unlawful_a supremacy_n be_v prefix_v shall_v be_v refuse_v why_o be_v he_o so_o positive_a that_o a_o command_n to_o preach_v shall_v be_v quite_o refuse_v because_o of_o instruction_n superad_v in_o another_o act_n i_o can_v see_v no_o shadow_n of_o reason_n for_o this_o now_o he_o be_v far_o from_o be_v peremptour_n in_o the_o former_a case_n but_o very_o very_o modest_a i_o suppose_v say_v he_o there_o may_v be_v ground_n here_o for_o a_o demur_n he_o do_v not_o positive_o assert_v that_o they_o shall_v refuse_v to_o preach_v in_o this_o case_n but_o he_o only_o suppose_v not_o that_o there_o be_v actual_o but_o that_o there_o may_v be_v ground_n not_o for_o a_o refusal_n but_o only_o for_o a_o demur_n i_o wish_v he_o have_v ponder_v his_o argument_n in_o its_o full_a strength_n it_o be_v like_o it_o will_v have_v put_v he_o in_o a_o demur_n as_o to_o the_o write_n of_o this_o history_n and_o spare_v he_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o needless_a labour_n and_o much_o waste_n of_o his_o precious_a time_n which_o may_v have_v be_v improven_v to_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n and_o his_o own_o edification_n i_o leave_v he_o in_o this_o demur_n and_o come_v to_o the_o seven_o objection_n which_o he_o propose_v in_o this_o question_n it_o seem_v than_o you_o will_v not_o be_v for_o minister_n return_v to_o their_o own_o charge_n if_o the_o magistrate_n shall_v grant_v such_o a_o order_n or_o permission_n he_o who_o will_v not_o be_v for_o a_o minister_n do_v his_o duty_n be_v wilful_a without_o and_o against_o reason_n but_o he_o who_o will_v not_o be_v for_o a_o minister_n return_v to_o his_o own_o charge_n will_v not_o be_v for_o a_o minister_n do_v his_o duty_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v wilful_a without_o and_o against_o reason_n in_o his_o first_o he_o grant_v that_o though_o the_o order_n or_o permission_n do_v express_o mention_v the_o supremacy_n as_o it_o be_v ground_n that_o yet_o it_o may_v be_v make_v use_n of_o with_o a_o protestation_n 1._o i_o see_v the_o author_n in_o this_o case_n will_v not_o scar_n at_o the_o magistrate_n order_v and_o why_o then_o make_v he_o such_o a_o business_n about_o the_o word_n appoint_v 2._o that_o their_o return_v to_o their_o own_o charge_n though_o the_o magistrate_n order_n it_o be_v not_o a_o renounce_n of_o their_o former_a mission_n and_o old_a right_n nor_o a_o renounce_n of_o their_o dependence_n upon_o christ_n nor_o a_o derive_v of_o their_o ministry_n from_o the_o magistrate_n for_o if_o it_o be_v such_o the_o matter_n can_v not_o be_v salve_v by_o a_o protestation_n this_o concession_n overturn_v a_o great_a part_n of_o his_o book_n 3._o there_o be_v no_o mention_n make_v of_o the_o supremacy_n at_o all_o in_o the_o indulgence_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o need_n by_o his_o own_o concession_n of_o such_o a_o protestation_n 4._o though_o there_o have_v be_v mention_n of_o it_o minister_n return_v to_o their_o own_o charge_n will_v have_v be_v according_a to_o this_o concession_n but_o a_o seem_a homologation_n of_o the_o sinful_a usurpation_n in_o his_o 2d_o he_o think_v if_o the_o permission_n be_v not_o universal_a but_o a_o permission_n of_o some_o only_a that_o then_o they_o shall_v not_o go_v and_o why_o because_o the_o magistrate_n intention_n to_o divide_v be_v manifest_a suppose_v that_o to_o be_v true_a yet_o the_o minister_n return_v to_o their_o own_o charge_n have_v no_o tendency_n to_o division_n if_o man_n must_v not_o do_v their_o duty_n because_o they_o who_o permit_v they_o to_o do_v it_o have_v ill_a design_n this_o will_v be_v a_o new_a device_n for_o torture_a man_n conscience_n and_o will_v make_v minister_n as_o dependent_a upon_o the_o magistrate_n intention_n as_o to_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o their_o ministerial_a act_n as_o the_o papist_n be_v dependent_a upon_o the_o priest_n intention_n as_o to_o the_o validity_n of_o their_o sacrament_n if_o a_o minister_n shall_v not_o go_v
