thing_n the_o continuance_n of_o the_o membership_n of_o those_o child_n in_o particular_a church_n when_o they_o be_v grow_v up_o even_o until_o they_o be_v excommunicate_v unless_o there_o be_v a_o dissolution_n of_o the_o person_n by_o death_n church_n or_o of_o the_o church-society_n so_o that_o this_o latter_a be_v not_o a_o principle_n of_o innovation_n and_o apostasy_n but_o as_o it_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o author_n of_o this_o follow_a letter_n as_o be_v therein_o to_o be_v see_v and_o to_o manifest_v which_o be_v one_o special_a end_n of_o the_o print_n thereof_o so_o be_v it_o the_o light_n which_o other_o have_v hold_v forth_o who_o in_o their_o time_n be_v star_n not_o of_o the_o small_a magnitude_n who_o we_o have_v here_o see_v sometime_o shine_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n right_a hand_n but_o be_v now_o set_v and_o shine_v with_o that_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n in_o another_o world_n that_o there_o be_v no_o cessation_n of_o the_o membership_n of_o a_o person_n in_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a church_n the_o church_n whereof_o he_o iâ—_n a_o member_n continue_v in_o bâ—ing_n together_o with_o the_o person_n himself_o unless_o it_o be_v by_o mean_n of_o a_o church-act_n intervening_a be_v a_o truth_n of_o no_o small_a importance_n and_o therefore_o as_o for_o that_o notion_n which_o do_v obtain_v with_o some_o that_o in_o particular_a church_n of_o christ_n walk_v in_o the_o order_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o be_v such_o as_o become_v ecclesiastical_o felones_n de_fw-fr se_fw-la that_o be_v such_o church-member_n who_o by_o their_o scandalous_a sin_n do_v become_v their_o own_o executioner_n ecclesiastical_o cut_v themselves_o off_o from_o the_o church_n so_o as_o that_o they_o thereby_o become_v actual_o non-member_n and_o that_o the_o church_n have_v no_o more_o power_n over_o they_o either_o ecclesiasticallly_n to_o admonish_v they_o or_o excommunicate_v they_o this_o seem_v unto_o i_o to_o be_v but_o a_o humane_a invention_n and_o not_o of_o divine_a institution_n yea_o in_o truth_n destructive_a to_o the_o order_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o to_o apply_v it_o as_o to_o member_n in_o full_a communion_n so_o to_o these_o child_n of_o the_o church_n who_o we_o now_o speak_v of_o be_v not_o of_o god_n as_o may_v appear_v by_o these_o reason_n follow_v 1._o because_o it_o be_v unscriptural_a in_o matter_n of_o god_n worship_n a_o negative_a argument_n be_v conclusive_a if_o that_o which_o be_v assert_v be_v not_o contain_v in_o the_o scripture_n express_o or_o 〈◊〉_d the_o consequence_n therefrom_o it_o be_v to_o be_v reject_v to_o the_o law_n and_o by_o the_o testimony_n the_o scripture_n allege_v by_o summon_v thought_n to_o favour_v this_o notion_n of_o felones_n de_fw-fr se_fw-la be_v only_o such_o as_o do_v but_o lay_v down_o before_o we_o the_o sin_n of_o some_o church-member_n and_o do_v not_o speak_v of_o the_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d punishment_n or_o censure_n as_o it_o be_v call_v 2_o cor._n 2.6_o which_o in_o such_o case_n be_v to_o be_v inflict_v and_o therefore_o be_v not_o ad_fw-la rem_fw-la only_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o have_v most_o weight_n in_o it_o and_o to_o which_o therefore_o i_o shall_v brief_o reply_v be_v that_o in_o act_n 8.21_o thou_o have_v neither_o part_n nor_o lot_n in_o this_o matter_n answer_v i_o will_v not_o say_v that_o this_o what_o be_v in_o scripture_n speak_v of_o a_o member_n in_o full_a communion_n be_v applicable_a as_o far_o as_o mere_a membership_n reach_v to_o a_o member_n that_o be_v not_o in_o full_a communion_n we_o may_v now_o the_o more_o easy_o proceed_v in_o the_o after_o discourse_n to_o this_o scripture_n then_o allege_v for_o child_n of_o the_o church_n not_o in_o full_a communion_n by_o their_o sin_n when_o adult_n to_o become_v felone_n de_fw-mi se_fw-mi as_o above_o say_v i_o answer_v 1._o that_o the_o objection_n from_o hence_o tend_v as_o much_o to_o frustrate_v the_o church_n act_n or_o censure_v of_o excommunication_n upon_o member_n infull_a communion_n and_o make_v that_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n vain_a &_o needless_a to_o the_o parent_n in_o full_a communion_n as_o to_o these_o the_o church_n to_o determine_v of_o the_o same_o suppose_v a_o person_n can_v ecclesiastical_o cut_v himself_o off_o from_o the_o church_n by_o his_o very_a act_n of_o sin_n there_o will_v then_o he_o no_o room_n leave_v for_o a_o competent_a judge_n to_o inquire_v into_o the_o crime_n whereof_o he_o be_v accuse_v and_o to_o make_v particular_a application_n of_o the_o rule_n to_o the_o case_n of_o the_o sâ—nning_a brother_n and_o pass_v sentence_n according_a to_o the_o true_a desert_n and_o nature_n of_o the_o offence_n that_o god_n have_v ordain_v a_o ministerial_a judge_n be_v plain_a mâ—tth_n 18.17_o if_o he_o neglect_v to_o hear_v the_o church_n the_o church_n be_v to_o be_v hear_v the_o phrase_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n imply_v judicial_a superiority_n on_o the_o church_n part_n and_o the_o inferiority_n and_o subjection_n of_o a_o part_n or_o member_n to_o that_o whole_a etc._n etc._n but_o now_o this_o felony_n deny_v this_o order_n which_o christ_n have_v establish_v though_o a_o person_n deserve_v excommunication_n perhaps_o yet_o it_o must_v appear_v that_o he_o do_v deserve_v it_o neither_o do_v his_o wickedness_n for_o which_o he_o deserve_v excommunication_n render_v he_o a_o non-member_n till_o he_o be_v excommunicate_v and_o hence_o in_o this_o case_n be_v very_o considerable_a what_o be_v assert_v by_o that_o deserve_o famous_a divine_n mr._n cotton_n in_o his_o book_n entitle_v the_o key_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n viz._n though_o the_o jury_n have_v give_v up_o their_o judgement_n 14._o and_o verdict_n yet_o the_o from_o mat._n 18.15_o 16_o 17_o 18._o which_o command_n and_o institution_n leave_v church_n under_o a_o solemn_a obligation_n of_o duty_n that_o when_o this_o offend_a brother_n or_o church-member_n deserve_v excommunication_n that_o censure_n be_v due_o inflict_v on_o he_o so_o as_o that_o thereby_o viz._n the_o sentence_n or_o censure_v pass_v against_o he_o in_o case_n he_o will_v not_o hear_v believer_n as_o have_v be_v prove_v and_o may_v further_o be_v confirm_v object_n but_o say_v you_o if_o we_o see_v hypocrite_n we_o be_v to_o cast_v they_o out_o as_o well_o as_o profane_a person_n and_o we_o see_v no_o grace_n in_o many_o child_n and_o therefore_o they_o must_v not_o be_v receive_v in_o answ._n 1._o if_o you_o see_v child_n of_o who_o you_o can_v say_v that_o they_o be_v faithful_a personal_o yet_o they_o may_v be_v faithful_a federal_o as_o have_v be_v show_v for_o they_o may_v lie_v under_o god_n covenant_n of_o beget_v faith_n by_o some_o mean_n in_o they_o and_o than_o you_o be_v not_o to_o cast_v they_o out_o but_o accept_v they_o as_o god_n do_v 2._o the_o child_n of_o godly_a parent_n though_o they_o do_v not_o manifest_a faith_n in_o the_o gospel_n yet_o they_o be_v to_o be_v account_v of_o god_n church_n until_o they_o positive_o reject_v the_o gospel_n either_o in_o themselves_o or_o in_o their_o parent_n and_o therefore_o god_n do_v never_o go_v about_o to_o cast_v off_o â—he_v jew_n and_o their_o seed_n until_o they_o put_v forth_o positive_a unbelief_n the_o lord_n promise_v to_o give_v they_o the_o mean_n of_o faith_n and_o do_v so_o and_o when_o christ_n be_v come_v and_o the_o gospel_n send_v first_o unto_o they_o for_o their_o good_a the_o lord_n herein_o fullfil_v his_o covenant-mercy_n as_o towards_o his_o belove_a people_n but_o when_o they_o reject_v these_o mean_n and_o cast_v off_o christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n then_o rom._n 11._o they_o be_v break_v off_o and_o not_o before_o now_o hypocrite_n be_v such_o as_o profess_v
