and_o stir_v up_o unto_o a_o very_a sad_a undertake_n true_o to_o my_o apprehension_n &_o for_o which_o eh_n the_o church_n of_o god_n will_v scarce_o ever_o return_v thanks_n to_o they_o that_o shall_v engage_v in_o it_o he_o be_v of_o a_o other_o mind_n who_o cry_v dam_fw-la domine_fw-la qvod_fw-la jubes_fw-la &_o jube_fw-la quod_fw-la vis_fw-la yea_o &_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v in_o innumerable_a place_n of_o scripture_n express_v himself_o of_o another_o mind_n promise_v to_o work_v effectual_o in_o we_o what_o he_o require_v earnest_o of_o we_o by_o the_o one_o manifest_v the_o efficacy_n of_o his_o grace_n by_o the_o other_o the_o exigeney_n of_o the_o duty_n which_o be_v incumbent_n upon_o we_o nay_o never_o any_o saint_n of_o god_n once_o pray_v in_o his_o life_n seek_v any_o thing_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n but_o be_v of_o another_o mind_n if_o he_o understand_v his_o own_o supplication_n to_o what_o be_v here_o urge_v against_o this_o catholic_a faith_n of_o believer_n i_o say_v that_o exhortation_n be_v the_o mean_n of_o perseverance_n in_o as_o much_o as_o by_o they_o in_o their_o place_n and_o kind_n and_o with_o they_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n effectual_o work_v this_o peseverance_n or_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o in_o the_o saint_n those_o cloudy_a expression_n of_o irresistible_o and_o unfrustrable_o we_o own_v no_o far_o than_o as_o they_o denote_v the_o certainty_n of_o the_o event_n and_o not_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o spirit_n operation_n which_o also_o they_o do_v very_o unhandsome_o we_o leave_v out_o then_o in_o the_o proposal_n of_o our_o judgement_n about_o the_o use_n of_o exhortation_n which_o mr_n goodwin_n oppose_v those_o term_n and_o add_v in_o their_o room_n by_o and_o by_o with_o those_o exhortation_n which_o he_o omitt_v he_o say_v then_o this_o can_v be_v prove_v because_o the_o saint_n live_v and_o die_v often_o time_n in_o opposition_n and_o disobedience_n unto_o these_o exhortation_n but_o obedience_n be_v twofold_a first_o as_o to_o the_o general_a frame_n of_o the_o heart_n obedience_n in_o the_o habit_n and_o so_o it_o be_v false_a that_o the_o saint_n live_v at_o any_o time_n in_o a_o ordinary_a course_n much_o less_o die_v in_o opposition_n to_o those_o exhortation_n the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v write_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o they_o delight_v in_o it_o in_o their_o inward_a man_n they_o abide_v therein_o the_o fruit_n of_o obedience_n for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v bring_v forth_o by_o they_o and_o this_o suffice_v as_o to_o their_o perseverance_n second_o it_o regard_v particular_a act_n of_o obedience_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o they_o we_o all_o say_v that_o yet_o they_o all_o sin_n optimus_fw-la ille_fw-la est_fw-la qui_fw-la minimis_fw-la urgetur_fw-la but_o this_o prejndice_v not_o their_o perseverance_n nor_o the_o general_a end_n of_o the_o exhortation_n afford_v they_o for_o that_o purpose_n but_o he_o add_v second_o if_o god_n by_o his_o spirit_n irresistible_o draw_v his_o saint_n to_o persevere_v ut_fw-la supra_fw-la but_o this_o be_v sorry_a sophistry_n which_o may_v be_v feel_v as_o they_o say_v through_o a_o pair_n of_o mittin_n for_o first_o who_o say_v that_o god_n work_v by_o force_n immediate_o upon_o the_o will_n of_o man_n or_o who_o make_v force_n and_o power_n to_o be_v term_n equivalent_a or_o that_o god_n can_v put_v forth_o the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o power_n in_o they_o that_o believe_v but_o he_o must_v force_v or_o compel_v their_o will_n or_o that_o he_o can_v not_o work_v in_o we_o to_o will_v and_o to_o do_v of_o his_o own_o goodpleasure_n immediate_o work_v in_o and_o with_o our_o will_n but_o he_o must_v so_o force_v they_o second_o whence_o arise_v the_o disjunctive_a force_n of_o this_o argument_n either_o by_o immedate_n act_n upon_o their_o will_n or_o he_o make_v use_v of_o those_o exhortation_n as_o though_o the_o one_o way_n be_v exclusive_a of_o the_o other_o and_o that_o the_o scripture_n do_v not_o abundant_o and_o plentiful_o ascribe_v both_o these_o unto_o god_n both_o that_o he_o exhort_v we_o to_o know_v he_o love_v he_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o give_v we_o a_o understanding_n and_o a_o heart_n so_o to_o do_v work_v faith_n and_o love_n in_o we_o by_o the_o exceed_a efficacy_n of_o his_o power_n and_o spirit_n i_o say_v then_o that_o god_n work_v immediate_o by_o his_o spirit_n in_o and_o on_o the_o will_n of_o his_o saint_n that_o be_v he_o put_v forth_o a_o real_a physical_a power_n that_o be_v not_o contain_v in_o those_o exhortation_n though_o he_o do_v it_o by_o and_o in_o and_o with_o they_o the_o impotency_n that_o be_v in_o we_o to_o do_v good_a be_v not_o amiss_o term_v ethico-physica_a both_o natural_a and_o moral_a and_o the_o application_n of_o god_n to_o the_o soul_n in_o their_o do_v good_a be_v both_o real_o and_o physical_o efficient_a and_o moral_a also_o the_o one_o consist_v in_o the_o efficacy_n of_o his_o spirit_n the_o other_o lie_v in_o the_o exhortation_n of_o the_o word_n yet_o so_o as_o that_o the_o efficacy_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v exert_v by_o and_o with_o the_o moral_a efficacy_n of_o the_o word_n his_o work_n be_v but_o grace_n or_o the_o law_n in_o the_o heart_n the_o word_n be_v the_o law_n write_v so_o that_o all_o the_o ensue_a reason_v be_v bottom_v upon_o thing_n male_a divisa_fw-la that_o stand_v in_o a_o sweet_a harmony_n and_o compliance_n with_o each_o other_o but_o mr_n goodwin_n tell_v you_o that_o if_o god_n work_v by_o his_o spirit_n &_o his_o grace_n immediate_o on_o the_o will_n of_o man_n to_o cause_v they_o to_o persevere_v then_o be_v exhortation_n no_o mean_n of_o their_o perseverance_n why_o so_o i_o pray_v it_o seem_v we_o must_v have_v no_o internal_a effectual_a grace_n from_o god_n or_o no_o outward_a exhortation_n of_o the_o word_n but_o he_o tell_v you_o it_o must_v be_v so_o because_o if_o the_o will_v be_v physical_o and_o irresistible_o act_v and_o draw_v by_o god_n to_o do_v such_o and_o such_o thing_n it_o need_v no_o addition_n of_o moral_a mean_n such_o be_v exhortation_n thereunto_o that_o be_v if_o the_o will_v be_v effectual_o incline_v to_o the_o way_n of_o god_n by_o his_o grace_n there_o be_v then_o no_o need_n of_o the_o exhortation_n of_o the_o word_n but_o yet_o first_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n though_o he_o have_v a_o immediate_a efficacy_n of_o his_o own_o by_o &_o with_o those_o exhortation_n yet_o by_o those_o exhortation_n he_o also_o incline_v the_o will_n &_o as_o he_o work_v on_o the_o will_n as_o corrupt_v &_o impotent_a by_o his_o grace_n so_o he_o work_v on_o the_o will_n as_o the_o will_v or_o as_o such_o a_o faculty_n be_v apt_a to_o be_v wrought_v upon_o by_o a_o mediation_n of_o the_o understanding_n by_o exhortation_n second_o to_o say_v obedience_n will_v have_v be_v produce_v and_o wrought_v have_v there_o be_v no_o exhortation_n be_v not_o require_v of_o so_o that_o notwithstanding_o these_o exception_n the_o exposition_n of_o the_o word_n be_v clear_a as_o before_o give_v in_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v all_o m._n g._n produce_v as_o his_o ground_n and_o foundation_n whereon_o to_o stand_v in_o deny_v this_o proposition_n he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o god_n sin_v not_o that_o be_v fall_v not_o under_o the_o power_n of_o reign_a sin_n sin_v not_o to_o death_n as_o the_o child_n of_o the_o wicked_a one_o which_o i_o shall_v leave_v under_o that_o consideration_n wherewith_o it_o be_v educe_v from_o the_o scope_n of_o the_o text_n and_o the_o now_o hereunto_o the_o ground_n &_o reason_n of_o this_o assertion_n viz._n his_o be_v bear_v of_o god_n &_o the_o abide_n of_o the_o seed_n in_o he_o &_o we_o have_v obtain_v all_o that_o we_o
